to wish this was a woman only forum?

I know anyone can join and that's fair enough, I'm not actually trying to impose my wish on anyone or the site but it still always annoys me when I am reading thought a thread where a woman is posting for advice from other women and a man pops up saying "speaking as a man" or "from a blokes perspective" I always want to say I'm not interested in what you think right now, there is a whole world of "men's opinions" shoved down our throats from the time we are little girls and all though our lives on every aspect of our bodies, what we do and think. I'd love just one space like this with lots of women without it having men interject and that is before we even get to the men who pitch up looking for permission to have affairs or get their jollies from dubious posts.

Has anyone ever suggested this though, that ALL women are kind and reasonable? There appears to be a habit when any thread wanting to discuss male issues, like how as a sex class they are more problematic, some posters manage to equate this to stating that ALL woman don’t cause problems, ‘women do it too’, when it’s not. At all. It’s mental.

No, as far as I'm aware, people don't tend to argue that all women are kind and reasonable. I agree it is an accusation that tends to be thrown out when anyone suggests something is a male patterned behaviour.
My response was to PP who suggested I have idealistic view of women because I tend to think people posting in a specific objectionable style are men.
My assumption isn't based on any stereotypes that woman can't be 'unkind', rather that I have observed sex based patterns in RL debate and that it would be reasonable to believe they may be reflected in debate on here.

I'm not sure that you can draw parallels between RL debate and online. Online has its own rules and patterns.

I must have missed the posts like this!

Have you thought about starting your own women only forum instead of coming to a mixed sex one for parents and moaning you can’t have it your way?

Whenever I see a man commenting I always thing, "Why are you on Mumsnet?"

It’s kind of a boner killer tbh 😂🤭🤭

imagine waking in on your man in the bathroom, expecting the porn but really he’s losing an argument about breastfeeding with to a registered nurse

Cakeandcardio · 20/01/2026 19:44

I completely agree. The men on this site almost 100% show themselves to be creeps anyway. Especially that weird post the other day where a mum was speaking to him and he thought she must want to shag him.

I think some behaviour carries over.
My experience is that there are people who disagree and are able to explain why, putting forward a coherent counter argument. This is true in RL and on here.
Then there are those who disagree but either have no compelling argument or are unable to articulate it. Also true in RL and on here.
Men within this second group are more likely to mock their female opponent or (pretend to) find her amusingly stupid/naive. True in RL, so why not on here?

I'm expressing a point of view, I say quite clearly in my OP that I know its an open forum and that I have no will to actively try an impose my view on others. If you look at the poll a decent majority of the women here agree with me so its a valid topic to discuss. Additionally men have the whole of the internet to lord it over women in various ways, see reddit for example where even the women's subs and lesbian subs are crowded with males.

Okiedokie123 · 20/01/2026 20:15

I voted yanbu because I dont think its an unreasonable request but actually....... if they are men I do prefer it when they say "as a man" "Im a man and I think...." Or if their posting name is obviously male. At least they are being honest about who they are.
What I object to very strongly is men with "woman feelings", men who've decided they are women who post/comment here as if they are women.

ApplesinmyPocket · 20/01/2026 20:17

I don't at all mind the pleasant men on here, and there are quite a few.

There's plenty of deeply UNpleasant women on here, after all.

Okiedokie123 · 20/01/2026 20:21

@DoveTurtle its mixed sex now........
It never used to be. For a long time it was very unusual to see a man on mn. And when a man did post they usually did so very much more obviously than they do now "scuse me Im a man, do you mind If I ask a question about......." wasnt an untypical sort of comment.

Now "its a mixed sex" forum apparently. With a not insignificant number of men who are experiencing magical woman feelings. 😩
Why cant we as women just have a few things just for us? Why is that apparently such an impossible/unreasonable ask?

TheTecknician · 20/01/2026 20:22

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 20/01/2026 20:25

Nat Geo No GIF by National Geographic Channel

I had to search for ages but I’ve decided that this is the man on mn that we all hate:

’The conversation shifted to the length of time he’s looked after his girls. “That’s a good question, isn’t it? Well, OK. The two of them? Well, not long, not long… Um, I’ve done like, a night. But they’re asleep then,” he revealed, affirming it certainly hasn’t been longer than 24 hours.
“She wouldn’t go away for 24 hours, Laura,” he noted. “She respects and cares for their safety too much. Yes, I’m very, very focused on the mystical connotations of Mabel’s beauty and grace. Not so good on the [diapers] and making sure that they eat food. When I looked after Mabel on her own, she dropped two social classes in an hour. In no time at all we’re in a coffee shop, she’s just got a nappy on, she’s covered in stuff because I’m not willing to fight any of the battles. I’m like, f* it, it doesn’t matter whether she wears trousers, no, I suppose it doesn’t matter if she does that. So it looks a bit Shameless within a couple of hours. Laura’s able to sustain and maintain domesticity in a way that’s astonishing. I didn’t have much experience of how to organize domesticity. I do whatever I’m told.” ‘

😌😌
