I have recently had a huge life changing bereavement (loss of my daughter - I have posted about this on other threads).

The point of this thread is something quite superficial. I have barely eaten for 3 months and have lost lots of weight.

I never had much of a sweet tooth, but think I might fancy some really delicious chocolates and my wonderful friend has offered to buy me some and, on this occasion, cost is not really material.

I like milk and dark chocolate (not white), cream and truffle and ganache. I quite like a crispy coating. And fruit flavours. Do not want alcohol in them. So no champagne truffles. I like peppermint. And marzipan. And coconut. I like nuts ordinarily, but am struggling to swallow food (only eating soup) so probably best to avoid nuts at the moment.

I once had some Leonidas chocolates that I liked. My friend suggested Godiva or Audreys. Neither of us have ever had those.

Can anyone help me please with a suggestion for some really lovely chocolates that are readily available for the UK and that might restore a bit of my appetite.

Thank you in advance.

So sorry for your loss.
In my opinion, marks and Spencers flaked Belgian choc truffles are just the best. I eat a lot of chocolate.

Sorry to hear youre having a hard time OP 💐

I don't have any suggestions other than checking out your local chocolatiers, e.g. in Edinburgh Chocolatiers Edward & Irwyn has nice chocolate

I'm mostly posting to follow along and see where I need to pick up some chocolate for me 🐷

Sorry for your loss OP.

I got Love Cocoa chocolate for my Christmas and it's so good! Started by the great-g-g-grandson of Mr Cadbury.

my husband raves about chocolate smiths - I haven’t tried them but they look lovely

LaurieFairyCake · 16/01/2026 16:06

If you want the absolute best you want the award winners like the Highland Chocolatier or Adam Handling.

I had Adam Handling chocs for Christmas, unbelievably good 😊

good luck with your recovery

Thank you. The flaked Belgian chocolates look lovely, but I think I fancy a box of mixed chocolates really. Just a dozen really, but hopefully all different.

I live in the South West. But I am not going out at all at the moment so anything I buy needs to be on line.

Thank you.

Chococo or Melt are my two favourites. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Rictasmorticia · 16/01/2026 16:10

Bendicks are the best chocolate in my opinion

FIFIBEBE · 16/01/2026 16:12

Audrey’s are really good, better than the Highland Choclatier. It’s personal taste though isn’t it.

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 16/01/2026 16:14

Oh, just going off to google some of the suggestions. Thank you all so much and for your good wishes.

Anyone had Audreys?

Neuhaus. Rococo.

Cairneyes · 16/01/2026 16:18

Try Kennedy’s Fine Chocolate shop, near Penrith but they do mail order, lots to choose from and you can pick and mix as much as you like!

SleepingisanArt · 16/01/2026 16:21

Stick with Leonidas! Go online and make yourself a box full of the ones you like (we did that for Christmas). They are my favourite chocolates and have been since I was first given one as a very special treat as a 6 year old over 50 years ago!

GracieZ · 16/01/2026 16:22

so very sorry for your loss.

you need Laderach chocolate - I discovered it at Christmas after it was given to me as a gift and it is delicious beyond words. Great online delivery service too

Lastandfirst · 16/01/2026 16:22

Sorry for your loss.
My most favourite box is the Swiss Choclates from M&S. Not one I don’t like.

I love Green and Black for its high cocoa content. Tastes absolutely delicious.

Newgirls · 16/01/2026 16:27

Fortnam and Mason peppermint creams are divine

Buscobel · 16/01/2026 16:28

I bought some from Audrey’s just before Christmas. They were very good. You can make your own choice, or order one of their mixed boxes. They come in a slidey box, which is nice.

I enjoyed Beech’s, but they have stopped trading.

I love Green and Black for its high cocoa content. Tastes absolutely delicious.

It's not so good anymore. Sadly

atinytruffle · 16/01/2026 16:29

I'm so sorry for your loss.

The Fortnum and Mason selection boxes are extremely lovely, and have a nice mix: https://www.fortnumandmason.com/chocolate-confectionery/chocolate-collections/handmade-english

I also rate Montezuma truffles: www.montezumas.co.uk/collections/chocolate-truffles

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 16/01/2026 16:46

Thank you all. The past 12 weeks have been beyond grim. My younger daughter is sitting with me now helping me choose some chocolates and we have our candles lit and there is a tiny amount of pleasure to be had in anticipating a small chocolate delivery.
