To ask how to make fish fingers more exciting?

I make fish finger sandwiches (butter, ketchup, vinegar, tiny mayo).
I'm sure there must be better ways of eating them, does anyone have an amazing recipe to share?

I was thinking fish finger tacos with corn mini tortillas, inspired from tempura fish tacos I had in Margate once.

DD loves them in wraps. She has lettuce, cheese and ketchup but some sweet chilli sauce would more interesting. Maybe some peppers and onions too.

I've not tried it but in a frying pan with some oven chips, onions etc and Chinese salt and pepper seasoning seems like it would work.

Loving this thread . My people !
what in your opinion is the best fish finger? I’ve always preferred Birds Eye but not liking the omega 3 ones . Aldi are ok but not in the same league .

Chalo · 15/01/2026 18:19

I think fish fingers shouldn’t be fucked about with and made “posh”. No goujons, no batter. Breadcrumbs, preferably orange ones. Birdseye all the way.

And bread - no ciabatta, no sourdough. Cheap, fresh white bread. I recommend the Warburtons thick sliced loaf, the one in the orange wrapper.

Bake in the oven, with a drizzle of lime juice. Serve with spicy spinach (ask for secret recipe), potatoes and home-made tartar sauce.
Even better, get salmon fish fingers. 😁

That is the only way I've ever eaten them to be honest. I do think there is potential for them to be part of a more exciting dinner!

When I was young my mum used to bake a potato and cook fish fingers. Scoop out the inside of the potato and mash with fish fingers. Refill the jacket with potato fish mash and bake a little longer. Can top with cheese, put veg/ beans on the side.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 15/01/2026 19:22

Wrap with pea and watercress puree?

fishfingerbutty · 15/01/2026 19:25

I think you’re doing fine just as you are.
I felt obliged to contribute due to my user name.

There is no food superior to the classic fish finger sandwich. You are trying to improve on perfection.

HelenHywater · 15/01/2026 19:54

Well you can't beat a fishfinger sandwich, but I have made this recipe fishfinger katsu curry from Waitrose which went down well with my dc.

ArmySurplusHamster · 15/01/2026 19:58

Mayonnaise, sriracha and lemon juice.

Fish finger Lasagna a la Nadiya from Bake-Off?

Arrrggghhhhhhcommunicationfrustration · 15/01/2026 20:01

Sliced gherkins, tartar sauce and some lettuce.
Can't believe no-one has mentioned gherkins yet!

MrsLJH · 15/01/2026 20:07

We do sweet and sour fish fingers 🙈 🤷🏼‍♀️

Growing up we used to have sweet and sour cod balls but one day my parents couldn't get the battered cod balls any more so improvised 🤣

Lozza70 · 15/01/2026 20:42

Try finger sandwiches are the bomb. Crispy lettuce, mayo, black pepper, capers and sliced gerkins. Cheap white bread, lightly toasted on one side so the sandwich does not disintegrate😋

hanka · 15/01/2026 20:46

Dr Who way 😁
(with custard)

DelilahBucket · 15/01/2026 20:48

Excellent with cheddar cheese in a sandwich as well.

They make a good katsu curry.

NormasArse · 15/01/2026 20:51

The buttermilk fish burgers from Aldi are what I have as a fish finger substitute.

Cook them in the airfryer, and whilst they’re cooking, get together pea shoots, grated carrot, spring onion, cucumber (any salad you like!). Mix chopped pickled gherkins with mayo, then assemble in a wrap with the burger cut in half so you can arrange it longways.

👌

JLou08 · 15/01/2026 20:52

Lettuce and mayo in a wrap. I tried it for the first time a few months ago, only because I planned on making chicken wraps and then realised there was no chicken. It was so much better than a chicken wrap.
