Give it three seconds and the ghouls trying to justify the murder will descend upon this thread.

Tadpolesinponds · 13/01/2026 15:45

You seem to be coming to this very late, OP. It's been extremely worrying for a long time now.

OonaStubbs · 13/01/2026 15:51

Not any more than I am concerned with things happening elsewhere in the world. I don't know why British people obsess about America so much.

TheZingyFish · 13/01/2026 15:51

Just amazed that it had taken you this long to be concerned?

ShetlandishMum · 13/01/2026 15:53

Yes been for a very long time now.

Motomum23 · 13/01/2026 15:55

I think there are areas of the world with far greater problems than america personally. Nigeria, China, Iran, Afghanistan- off the top of my head all Trump a random trigger happy agent.

LemonyCurd · 13/01/2026 16:13

No. It’s better under Trump

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 13/01/2026 16:14

It isn’t somewhere we would go or visit. America is becoming a pariah state

Bringemout · 13/01/2026 16:15

Honestly mainly worried about Iranians right now.

Soonenough · 13/01/2026 16:19

I am so glad that finally there seems to be a surge in Americans trying to fight back against this meglomanic dictator . The history lessons are there . Restrictions of free speech , erosion of women's rights over their reproductivity , demolition of White House property without any consultation , and now his own unregulated private Army rounding up people of a certain disposition to expel them . And quite literally killing or threatening to have killed anyone who opposes him .
The fact that the USA has more resources and is the most powerful in the world in terms of military equipment including nuclear is something that everyone should be concerned about .

It's a glimpse at what we're going to be looking at in the near future

Doubt it, america has a very different culture to the UK.

CheerfulBunny · 13/01/2026 16:27

I'm generally worried that so many people in authority can carry on completely unchallenged and are not held accountable for whatever they do or say. Never thought I'd see it and don't know why it's happening now. It feels like things used to be run by grown ups..
I think about the time before WW2 a lot.

landlordhell · 13/01/2026 16:28

Of course! Silly question op. Who wouldn’t be ? It’s not just America. But I am helpless so I just carry on with my life the best I can.

Thedogscollar · 13/01/2026 16:30

LemonyCurd · 13/01/2026 16:13

No. It’s better under Trump

Who exactly is it better for?

Dweetfidilove · 13/01/2026 16:33

The world is a dangerous place at the moment for so many citizens in so many countries; but America has always been unsafe.

Law Enforcement Officers have been gunning down American citizens in the most unlawful and brutal ways for decades. For many Americans, this is not new.

I am, however, quite concerned about the impact the current despot (Trump) is having on world affairs. His wanton disregard for international law and the fact that everyone seems unable to challenge him, is what I'm most concerned with.

Not any more than I am concerned with things happening elsewhere in the world. I don't know why British people obsess about America so much.

Because what the US does has an impact elsewhere?

Thedogscollar · 13/01/2026 16:30

Who exactly is it better for?

Gun toting, murdering, rapid, paedos I assume. And really rich people who want to get even richer and don't care how.

For everyone else though, no.

Bringemout · 13/01/2026 16:25

Doubt it, america has a very different culture to the UK.

Does it? It did once but now we have preschoolers with American accents, we are all saturated in American media. Through the loss of the physical public square and replacement with the virtual, American owned and dominated version we have imported their political talking/flash points when they're barely relevant here in practice. I'm curious what cultural distinctions we have you are thinking of, what do you have in mind?

My granny always said "America sneezes and the UK catches a cold". They are just across the pond, and their decisions affect us.

YorksMa · 13/01/2026 16:44

Because if the world's most powerful and influential democracy falls to fascism (as is happening) it impacts us all. And because if the West's superpower fails to hold Russia in check (as is happening) it gives Putin free rein to roll tanks across Europe. Like it or not, the USA is not just any other country.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 13/01/2026 16:55

Concerned yes as they are one of the three global superpowers and they are all now acting pretty deranged. Worried to the point of anxiety? No.

Academicallyminded · 13/01/2026 16:55

Thedogscollar · 13/01/2026 16:30

Who exactly is it better for?

For Trump, his cronies and the fossil fuel lobby....
