To think that there are too many judgemental, purposely hurtful comments on MN?!

The majority of the posts I’ve been reading recently, have too many b*tchy, judgemental and rude responses on them. Or extreme overreactions such as advising people to leave their husband over silly little arguments!
Women certainly do seem to enjoy dragging other women down.
Anyone else noticed this?

Nah, this kind of thing is once again about women being told to conform. Bottom line is OP believes that she is entitled to control women and how they present themselves because they don’t conform to her standard….. on an anonymous forum…..

This is hilarious you actually made me laugh out loud

YANBU - I find a lot of people needlessly unkind on here, more so than other forums.

youalright · 13/01/2026 16:03

I just think people don't like being told they're wrong or people having a different opinion to them

Jugjug · 13/01/2026 16:07

The nitpicking over grammar is the worst. Many a time a post has been made where someone’s life is falling apart but due to poor SPAG they get torn to shreds.
Soul destroying to see. Sometimes you can tell the poster is quite young and naive asking for advice and getting absolutely slated by what I assume is majority commenters who are twice the ops age.

Yes also to the “leave your husband” comments because he left a coffee cup on the side. Nevermind the mortgage and three kids.

Jugjug · 13/01/2026 16:09

Not to mention the “this post isn’t real and I’m reporting it for being fake” comments under practically every post even when it’s something extremely unshocking and believable

Jugjug · 13/01/2026 16:11

I think it’s because people post everything on AIBU. If they used the appropriate board, they’re likely to get a more nuanced response. People post on here to get maximum readership and I think it’s to be expected that if you’re asking someone if you’re being unreasonable then you need to expect that some people think you are.

Sometimes if you post on the appropriate board you’re lucky to get one comment

That's a bit unkind

Sameshitedifferentdaze · 13/01/2026 14:18

People just can't help themselves. It has become acceptable now to just be a twat. I do wonder what these people are like in real life, my guess is not very nice or likeable.

Is there a need for abusive names

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 13/01/2026 16:19

There's too many everything on MN.

Too many trolls.
Too many creeps.
Too may beggars.
Too many using AI.
Too many mean comments.
Too many ops that are goody or rage baiting or just pathetic.

I think people are fed up.

Well I’m glad it’s amusing because these threads pop up weekly about how women aren’t behaving and well enough and they should all shut up and do what they are told.

I think they're completely different in real life , backgrounders . They come on here because they want attention .

🤷🏻‍♀️ OP isn’t kind, she’s come on the forum to lecture women. She doesn’t have to be kind because she’s superior to everyone.

MaryBeardsShoes · 13/01/2026 16:42

WatchingWongFilms · 13/01/2026 15:08

I'm not so sure. There are lots of posters who make up their own imaginary scenarios that were not in the OP and berate posters for them, and lots more posters who are absolutely vile for no reason, as in it's not a case of them just not saying what the OP wants to hear or disagreeing robustly, they are completely disgusting and I think they make a sport of it.

Of course, there are lots of men who do that too and are equally as vile, although thankfully, there are few of them on this particular platform.

But my point is, women should be able to post what they like (within legal limits). If they want to be a tosspot then why should they be censored?

Penelope23145 · 13/01/2026 16:45

I think it's been awful recently. I seriously considered just coming off MN completely last week as the tone and nastiness was awful. Even had to name change and hide a couple of threads I'd posted opinions on as replies were just nasty and bitchy. Maybe I'm too sensitive.

No one said they shouldn't be allowed to, did they? I think some of us just wonder what they get out of doing it.

MNLurker1345 · 13/01/2026 16:54

MN should have a LTB board, a step by step guide board for getting your ducks in a row and a bat shit board!

A recent thread I counted 30 post describing the object of the thread as batshit. OMG, I am laughing at the thought.

NorthernStarlight · 13/01/2026 16:56

Totally agree OP. The tone on here is SO different to when I first joined 14 years ago. And I’m on another forum on fb and people there are respectful, kind and offer supportive advice so I’m not sure why mumsnet is like this now.
I posted for some advice when my son was small about something I’d got wrong and I was upset and received nothing but support. I wouldn’t dream of posting a personal issue now as I’d be ripped to shreds and would make me feel 10 times worse.
Think it’s reflective of how much we’re all struggling as a society especially post pandemic.

Snorlaxo · 13/01/2026 17:01

Could it be because of the increase in AI, trolls and rage baiters? I used to get sucked in and give honest replies but have learned to be more sceptical and consider the poster’s intentions because I’ve learned that not everyone is genuine.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 13/01/2026 17:04

You are 90% correct OP, but you instantly lost 10 percentage points for bringing women not supporting women into the argument. Mainly because we're not all a monolith , we're all different - but the other reason is how do you know for sure it's women actually posting 🤔. Russian bot agitators can be any sex.

Snorlaxo · 13/01/2026 17:07

Men aren’t exactly celebrated here either so I have to agree with pp about your comments about women tearing down women. Plenty of posts where women complain about men and a big percentage of them are justified imo.

beAsensible1 · 13/01/2026 17:08

I’d say half and half. Some people deliberately misunderstand and be unecessrily rude. Or overly pedantic when it’s obvious English isn’t someone’s first language and it’s perfectly obvious what they meant.

BUT - I’d also argue that women can often be a little too gentle, veering into the dishonest with each other and it’s not helpful. Sometimes you need someone to tell you to stop being a fucking idiot and a doormat.

Or that your hair looks very shit actually or whatever else it is. People often receive feedback much easier from strangers.

but there is definitely a flair for catastrophe on here. Yes.

This 100%! Or people living in a slightly different way, or parenting differently.

It never ceases to amaze me how posters take it as a personal insult when other people make decisions that differ from their own.

Cappie73 · 13/01/2026 17:25

Not this again 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well I’m glad it’s amusing because these threads pop up weekly about how women aren’t behaving and well enough and they should all shut up and do what they are told.

The thread were a young woman who was taken into care as a child herself and was worried her baby would be taken too was very brutal, torn to shreds I think the SPAG paid a part commenters see bad SPAG and see it as weakness and rip into a poster. I think many of the posters were twice the ops age.

But sure anyone pointing out this site can be brutal sometimes is just trying to tell women what to do. It is literally the handmaids tale right 🤔
