Baby on bus eating pizza!

Netcurtainnelly · 11/01/2026 21:38

Would you leave your baby in pushchair eating pizza?

Baby was definitely not walking yet and eating a piece of pizza on their own, lay back abit not even upright in the pushchair!😱

AIBU to think the base of a pizza isn't suitable for a baby, let alone eating without someone really watching over them.😕

Yes but it’s full of sugar. One of the worst foods in terms of that. Ask anyone with diabetes if they eat fast food pizza - their sugars will still be high the next day.

The OP never said it was "takeaway" pizza.
Seriously...chewing on a pizza crust. It's fine !!

January2026Bluesoohs · 11/01/2026 22:09

Wow. 😮 is this really a thread?

Freepaintjob · 11/01/2026 22:09

My baby loves a Greggs margarita

Ridiculous.

You want Fanta.

Outrageous suggestions - hope you’re both joking.

…Irn Bru is the only correct option. That was the drink of choice for babies growing up in my neighbourhood.

Pizza is apparently fine as a first food from around 6 months if BLW: https://solidstarts.com/foods/pizza/?hcUrl=%2Fen-US

Obviously needs to be low in salt and toppings need to be appropriate, but doesn’t seem like a big deal to me? It’s essentially bread, tomato and cheese all of which are fine for babies.

Pizza for Babies - First Foods for Baby - Solid Starts

Pizza can be high in sodium, but serving on occasion as soon as baby is ready for solids is okay. Just make sure it does not contain honey.

How old are we thinking?

What were the parents doing?

Lamentingalways · 11/01/2026 22:12

I’m afraid this does reek of the class divide. What is okay if you’re upper class but disgusting if you’re working class?
A child in an authentic Italian restaurant enjoying a family meal, holding their own food, fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella on a sourdough toasted focaccia. How wonderful, the parents are doing such a good job.
A child eating pizza on a bus not quite fully upright (why don’t the seats ever go quite upright?) And it’s offensive enough to write a post on Mumsnet!

See also, having more than two children, drinking wine with lunch.

MrsArcher23 · 11/01/2026 22:13

Sounds like he’s living the dream.

Ballycastle · 11/01/2026 22:13

A baby wheeled themselves on the bus with pizza in hand? That's impressive!

Fernsrus · 11/01/2026 22:14

You shouldn’t have wine with lunch when you have small children to look after . I thought everyone knew that.

You're all wrong and need your heads checking. A red bull is the way to go as it gives you wings

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 22:15

@Lamentingalways I think I had my first wine with lunch at 4, definitely more toddler than baby. It was more water than wine and the quantities changed through my childhood until I could have tolerate a full small glass in my early secondary years. Obviously sangria was offered as an alternative in the summer.

im now not sure that was very normal. It was the 80s.

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 22:16

Is there an irn bru flavoured protein shake? Perhaps that would be suitable for le babe?

Netcurtainnelly · 11/01/2026 22:16

Heres the answer.

Generally no — at least not normal pizza.

  • Pizza is usually too salty
  • Often hard or chewy (choking risk)
  • Cheese and tomato sauce can upset sensitive tummies
  • 6 -12 months.

No, yanbu, I wouldn't have my child of any age led back while eating. Especially on a bus, the ones around here are called bone shakers for a reason.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/01/2026 22:17

FionnulaTheCooler · 11/01/2026 21:46

Shocking. Everyone knows a Greggs sausage roll is the best way to keep your child quiet on the bus.

Surely half a packet of chocolate biscuits is best?

Why did you bother making the thread when you're so obviously right? Just couldn't miss an opportunity to be smug and sanctimonious about a slice of fucking pizza?

Hedgehogforshort · 11/01/2026 22:18

Back in my childhood up norf tomatoes sauce sandwiches washed down with a bottle of cold tea was the order of the day.

Wouldn't do this with my own child but not something I would pass any remarks about.

Except you surely can’t know it wasn’t homemade? Which is absolutely fine and actually a fairly healthy snack. Unless it came out a dominos box I suppose. But even then, as a one off, it really isn’t going to do any harm. Probably not your business really.

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 22:18

The only foods the baby should have been consuming in a picnic on the bus is Pom bears and naice ham. Of course.

The answer according to who/where?

So why didn't you just turn to AI in the first place?

Or is it not dramatic enough for you?

😱😱😱

SErunner · 11/01/2026 22:19

And it’s actually safer for them to have harder toasted bread or similar when weaning. Soft bread is more likely to squish into an airway sized ball.
