What time do you get up on a school day ? We are late everyday ! Not sure how early I need to be getting up !!

OP posts:
FuzzyWolf · 11/01/2026 17:31

75 mins before needing to leave home.

modgepodge · 11/01/2026 17:31

7.15. Out the door between 8.20 and 8.30 depending on whether there’s nursery drop off that day or not. 6 year old and almost 2 year old.

Clefable · 11/01/2026 17:32

We don’t have a set time but ideally everyone is up by about half 7 for leaving house at half 8. We have managed with the odd 8am accidental lie in (me and DH, not the kids!), but that’s a bit of a rush and everyone gets stressed! That’s for a 6yo in school and 3yo in nursery.

Sprogonthetyne · 11/01/2026 17:37

Mine wake up naturally between 6.30-7.00. We have an alarm set for 7.30, but if they get woken up artificially, they are really grumpy, so I keep bedtime early enough so they are already awake before it goes off.

Bitzee · 11/01/2026 17:38

Up at 6.45 (us) and 7 (kids) to leave at 7.45.

BoredZelda · 11/01/2026 17:38

Depends how many kids and how old.

ThisCantBeRightCanIt · 11/01/2026 17:40

Dc 1&4. Up 6.30/7. Out the door by 8. I need 1 hour for eveyone to get ready and kids eat breakfast. Clothes out and bags packed the night before. I have a coffee whilst I do my makeup but I eat at the office. Dh leaves 7am so I have to be organised as it's just me trying to organise what are basically 2 small chimps

mynameiscalypso · 11/01/2026 17:41

We’re usually out of bed about 7.45. Leave for school around 8.40 but we often end up having to walk quite quickly. We’re not really morning people.

HelpMeUnpickThis · 11/01/2026 17:42

Now out of primary years but we adults used to get up at 5:45 and kids woken at 6:30 to be at school gate for 7:20. Stressful times.

EsmeSusanOgg · 11/01/2026 17:43

Between 6:30 and 7am.

blankcanvas3 · 11/01/2026 17:44

I get up at 6 and get DD up at 7. The extra hour (even though I also don’t really need to be up at 6) makes such a difference in terms of getting stuff done before anybody else is awake. We leave at half 8, so she has a good 90 mins to faff/play/eat her breakfast slowly if she so chooses. She would probably wake up about half 7 naturally but an hour wouldn’t be enough time for her to get dressed eat breakfast PLUS do all the faffing she likes to do

LeedsZebra90 · 11/01/2026 17:44

4, 6 and 8 - usually up about 7, but the latest we can be up and not late is 7.30 to be out the door for 8.10 (we occasionally drive if we are running really late/someone's lost something/had a meltdown etc and so have a back up of leaving at half 8). 40 minutes is ideal for us to get everyone ready and lunches packed without being rushed. We're more often late when we get up early and have too much time for some reason!

laesosalt · 11/01/2026 17:46

5, 3 and almost 2 year old. Up at 7.30am and out the door by 8.40am 😊

TeamToeBeans · 11/01/2026 17:47

The key for us was no tv or devices until everyone is fully ready, shoes on, bags by front door. The distractions are just too much for them to resist, DS is particularly bad - once he’s seen a screen he’s lost.

Toastythesnowman · 11/01/2026 17:48

I get up at 6.15, kids usually up at 7 but I wake them at 7.15 if not, out the door by 8.25.

queenofwandss · 11/01/2026 17:50

ime it doesn’t matter how much earlier we get up. We are often just late! Having said that I do think that my eldest and I probably have adhd, and it tends to be us that are rushing around having forgotten things or trying to do last minute tasks. We are like this even if we have had 2 hours before leaving (waking at 6.30).

Unicornsandprincesses · 11/01/2026 17:51

7am and out the door for 8.30am

We can do later but he hate how much of a rush it is

Mydonkeyisred · 11/01/2026 17:51

I get up at 6.30 to get myself sorted.
Ds gets up at 7.10 and leaves with Dh at 8am.
Then I get the other 2 boys up to start their day.
One goes to nursery at 12.30.

Earlier than you do now.

How late are you?

If it's 10 minutes, then you need to get up at least 10 minutes earlier.

If it's half an hour, then you need to get up at least half an hour earlier.

BonneMamanAbricot · 11/01/2026 17:58

2 hours before leaving home. I like to be relaxed in the morning.

ThatWasMyLastFatFreeFrush · 11/01/2026 18:00

6am, we have to walk the dog before breakfast.

PaperBlueCornflower · 11/01/2026 18:00

6am

Wonderwall23 · 11/01/2026 18:04

We get up at 7am or just after. DS usually wakes naturally at that time.
Primary we left at 8.40 (walk). Secondary we leave at 8.15 (drive).

I would say I need an hour from getting up to leaving to be comfortable...this includes time to make our packed lunches in the morning. I guess it's made easier by only having one DS though. We could be quicker if we had to be.

He doesnt really have to do much in the morning. He eats breakfast in front of the TV (I don't mind judgement!) and then all he actually has to do is put his uniform on and clean his teeth/brush hair, which takes 10 mins max in total?

Bag is just the same every day. I check his PE kit night before and we do a quick check that he's got his homework the night before too.

We do prefer to shower in the evenings...so I have a quick wash in the morning and that definitely saves time. Again I'm aware I may be judged for this! But it's quite key for me.

ETA I'm not someone who can be routinely late for things. I mean at times we've had the odd rush but I don't think DS had one late mark for the whole of primary. I can't imagine being regularly late! I would find that so stressful!

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 18:06

DH leaves just after six to go to London. He will open the kids doors and say something but not force them up. At 7ish I then get up and get them up if they haven’t risen. Ds1 is y8 and goes at 8ish, ds2 is ten and he goes at 8.20.

showers are in the evening, both have plenty of uniform and youngest has a hanging divider with his uniform for the day so no faff. Both make lunches so that has to happen. Breakfast is cereal (weetabix) usually.
