The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

"One husband..."

Eh? Meant to write "One time my husband..."

I just thought you had been married more than once and you were referring to one of your husbands 😂

During lockdown DD, dog and I accidentally went on a walk with Tyson & Paris Fury and their whole family. They were all spread out and we were caught in the middle.

Oh swept along 😂

At times like this, I miss the laugh emoji.

No...just had a brain fart!

It's not! (It was Ian.)

ETA Though I once saw Val in the audience of a meet-the-author talk thingy at Glenrothes Central Library.

Edited

I met Ian at a rather informal meet and greet thing years ago when I was a Creative Writing student. He was so lovely giving me tips on courses that helped with more genre writing as my course at the time was weird about it. I think I freaked him out a bit when I said I wrote horror as I enjoyed killing people off. 🙈 His face was certainly a picture LOL.

(And I did end up sticking with the course I was on and graduated with a 2:1).

My aunts husbands sister was treated for something by the business partner of a famous actor...... I think that is about as tenuous as you can be!

I was in the choir of the school that “Jim’ll Fit It” fixed it for Rolf Harris to do a massive painting for us.

Not the best two people to be involved with a school choir.
A perfect storm.

I lived opposite Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy when I was a teenager. He spoke to me once when he was putting the bins out and I was waiting for the bus.

During HCP training, I had a mentor who nursed one of the Kray twins up until his death.

I used to live in a house built on the plot of land where the Kray's house to stand - 178 Vallance Road, Bethnal Green (and yes we thought it was haunted - well the three lads I used to share with thought it was - so I had to sleep in the attic room which was the creepy one...)

Oh this is fun, just remembered some more - I used to be friends with a boy who was the 2nd cousin of a famous Rangers footballer in the 90s. I think his name was Barry Ferguson.

I played hockey against Mark Hately’s daughter (he was also a rangers football player in the 90s)

I also knew the daughter of the late Janey Godley growing up. I seen her mum now and again doing the school run. It was only years later when social media became a thing I realised her mum was a famous comedian.

During the pandemic the driver for one of my Sainsbury’s deliveries said he was an actor and once the voice of one the characters in Rainbow. I think it was Bungle.

He must be getting on a bit now ,abused to watch Rainbow as a child and im 52 .

I was once invited to a book signing by a new and unknown author called JK Rowling. My friend managed the store and needed to make sure people turned up so invited me. I said no, I couldn't be bothered 🤦

UncleTed · 11/01/2026 15:52

My friend’s mum knows (ex England footballer) Darren Anderton’s mum.

Sonia from Gavin and Stacy jogged passed me recently.

My uncle was friends with one of Charlie Chaplin’s sons.

My grandfather worked with Cliff Richard’s dad. Before Cliff hit the big time, his dad played Cliff’s first single at work to his colleagues. Gramps didn’t think he’d get anywhere with the music—and said so
to Cliff’s dad. How wrong he was! My grandfather loved telling this story to us kids, years later, when Cliff was super rich and famous.

BubbleTeaT · 11/01/2026 15:53

Jim Bowen let me drive his car one night, he also bought my brother a gift when he was born, we lived local to him. Also met Tyson Fury many times walking in local area with family, particularly during COVID.

hugebigburd2 · 11/01/2026 15:53

I dated a guy who dated Joanne before she was famous (JK Rowlings) Apparently she was a top burd who always bought her own pint. She was busy scribbling wee children's stories at the time.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 16:05

@Tarkan

Well done! He really hasn't changed - he was always a lovely bloke.

ceaddas · 11/01/2026 16:12

SmugglersHaunt · 11/01/2026 16:12

One of the Three Degrees said I was ‘cute’

CrystalSingerFan · 11/01/2026 16:29

I once sat at the same table as Roger Moore. (Dinner at the Savoy after the Ghandi premiere. My father was an accountant and got free tx)

That taught me the real meaning of charisma.

ImWearingPantaloons · 11/01/2026 16:35

I told Ant McPartlin where the toilets were in a restaurant I worked in once.

TheSalvadorsStickbymebaby · 11/01/2026 16:44

LunaDeBallona · 11/01/2026 16:47

My great uncle was the great great nephew of Dame Florence Nightingle.
He could remember sitting on her knee.
I haven’t worked out my relation to her but it’s many greats.

My ex boss was a medical rep who used to regularly call on Harold Shipman

Harold shipman spent time in a mental health hospital that is at the top of my parents road (it's called the retreat-this was the mid 70's)

My parents used to walk past him in the street and knew many of the nurses who helped to treat him

They all said he had a God complex and thought very highly of himself

What was it like?? I can’t tell you how badly I wanted to be a why don’t you? presenter when I was a kid!

It was a crazy time…mostly sat in a coach waiting to film with chaperones lol

We were the ‘Birmingham Crew’ although none of us were from Birmingham ha ha got to someone good things though.

Bbq1 · 11/01/2026 17:00

Oh and my mum used to dance next to Ringo when they were all going to the same dances in Liverpool

lovemenomore · 11/01/2026 17:01

x2boys · 11/01/2026 15:09

I used to watch in the 80 s how did they pick their presenters?

Me and one of the girls on there were in a local drama club, the guy that ran it told us they were casting for local kids for a tv show so we auditioned - well it was more reading about a local attraction to a camcorder ha ha.

there were 6 of us chosen.
