The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I was in a stage show with Sooty and Sweep when I was 6 and as a teenager I tripped over David Bowie's tent peg.

Youououou · 11/01/2026 15:05

My nan lived two doors down from Paul O'Grady's aunt.

I've stood next to Nico and John Cale (Velvet Underground) in a pub watching John Cooper Clarke.

Me and my mum were in the background of a news report on Granada Reports in the early 1970's.

This is very tenuous, partly because most people probably won't know who she is.

I once served Winnie Ewing in a shop. I didn't realise who she was until she handed me her credit card. I did a double take. She knew I had twigged, and smiled, but neither of us said anything.

Her daughter is currently the MSP for my hometown.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 15:07

Oh, oh! Got another one!

One husband was the guest star on Sheena Wellington's folk show on Radio Tay, back in the '80s.

DaisyDazee · 11/01/2026 15:08

I had my photograph on the front page of our local paper when I was elected Chair of a Students society.
More recently I was quoted on the brochure of a company, I had refined a way to use the product. It was not enough to save them, they closed all the branches except USA.
Oh! Paper closed down as well. Ho hum!

I was a presenter on WHY DONT YOU? In the 90’s. Showing my age.

I used to watch in the 80 s how did they pick their presenters?

My husband's from the same village as the Singing Kettle (one for Scots)

Cilla impressed me when she gave us a very precise price for the SK (plus VAT). I was on the committee of the local folk club.

The SK worked out as much more expensive than hiring the Kettle members for an adult gig.

x2boys · 11/01/2026 15:12

My sister was interviewed in the street by Granada reports a couple of years ago about some remarks Boris Johnson had made about Angela Raynors skirt.

I went to the wedding reception of the bass guitarist, Jamie Stewart, who was a band member of The Cult at the time, about 1987. He lived a couple of doors down from my Nan in a terraced 2 up 2 down. All the men were wearing kilts. It was held in a local hall and they were having a good old knees up. None of the other band members were there btw.

Dh and dd went to a football match at Manchester United last season and Kier Starmer was seated very close to them.

super super jealous! One of my all time favourite bands. The sound of my twenties. I hope he was a nice chap.

Ds and I have are the face of swimming lessons at our local leisure centre for about 8 years.
Photographed in a swimming lesson when he was around 9 months old he's now 9 he looks gorgeous and happy I look like a drowned rat with its eyes closed.
Was bad enough when we were on their website but now we're on big cardboard banners by the entrance too.
It's a company that operates across our local area so maybe 8 sites so he's tickled that he's famous across the county ....... Me less so 😁
DH thinks it's funny and says he's married to a swimwear model again me less so.

I was invited to be videoed, 'tell my story' and be used in a poster for the regional leisure centres.

When I looked at the current videos, they were only using auld biddies (like me) who looked to be on their last legs - in order to encourage folk that anyone could use the gym... No one under the age of 70+ at all.

Their poster boy was an auld lad in his 90s.

I was on TV in 1986 as part of the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games in Edinburgh. I was a dancer but we ran from the park to the stadium right at the start of the ceremony.

Also - and this will only make sense to those who listen to Forth One in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas - I won the Big I am a few months ago.

Goanyersel!

(I listen to that at the gym.)

It's Val isn't it 😀

It's not! (It was Ian.)

ETA Though I once saw Val in the audience of a meet-the-author talk thingy at Glenrothes Central Library.

When I was a kid I spent a week on holiday with Cheryl Baker from Bucks Fizz, she was my sister's friend

Mydonkeyisred · 11/01/2026 15:23

I took a picture of my daughter with Peter Andre when she was around 5.
Outside the hopsital Emily worked in at the time.

Lillipops · 11/01/2026 15:24

My dad was bodyguard to Monica Lewinsky when she did the book signing tour in 1999, we all got signed books and my stepmum was given her hairdryer lol

BluntAzureDreamer · 11/01/2026 15:25

Once got a taxi to an Ian Brown gig with 2 girls who lived next door to his mum Jean Brown. They'd got free tickets because they lived on his street. Said he was lovely but had always had a real 'rock star' quality

JohnBullshit · 11/01/2026 15:27

@WearyAuldWumman You probably knew the son of someone I knew who was also at school with Ian. The son, not the someone. I never met the son.

Goingootforawalk · 11/01/2026 15:28

Oh this is fun, just remembered some more - I used to be friends with a boy who was the 2nd cousin of a famous Rangers footballer in the 90s. I think his name was Barry Ferguson.

I played hockey against Mark Hately’s daughter (he was also a rangers football player in the 90s)

I also knew the daughter of the late Janey Godley growing up. I seen her mum now and again doing the school run. It was only years later when social media became a thing I realised her mum was a famous comedian.

During the pandemic the driver for one of my Sainsbury’s deliveries said he was an actor and once the voice of one the characters in Rainbow. I think it was Bungle.

Forgot I walked past kiefer Sutherland in London a few years ago. I can’t remember if he was taller or shorter than id expected but it was one of the two!

Another reminder:

I saw Gareth gates at Cobham services several years ago. He was very "don't you know who I am?".

No mate - we know who you are, but no one cares.

My youngest was at an event with GG in attendance and phoned me to ask if he was a big deal as none of their group had a clue who he was or what he did.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 15:29

One of my husband's former pupils was 'Scotland's most wanted man' for a while.

During lockdown DD, dog and I accidentally went on a walk with Tyson & Paris Fury and their whole family. They were all spread out and we were caught in the middle.
