Do people actually like it or force themselves to have it?

I've tried. I've really tried... 😫

Zov · 10/01/2026 13:50

KEFIR

A fermented drink: Kefir is produced by fermenting milk (cow, goat, sheep) with kefir grains, which are gelatinous, cauliflower-like clusters of bacteria and yeasts.

Are you really shocked that it tastes like shit? Look what it's made of! ^

Mintearo7 · 10/01/2026 13:50

I like it but I do also like sour yogurt. I make my own Kefir. Not sure if the ready made one tastes different.

Dr13Hadley · 10/01/2026 13:51

I actually really like it. I’m not sure why! I like the Biotiful kefir drinks. Esp the honey and ginger one.

steelseries · 10/01/2026 13:53

I really like sour tasting things. Especially on something sweet like fruit or a crumble. It’s a bonus that it’s actually good me me!

Quagmireschin · 10/01/2026 13:54

You taking about the yogurt sort of kefir?

I Like it. I buy it from Aldi and have it most days. It’s just like a more runny Greek yogurt to me.

i prefer just natural, but you can get ones with added friut.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/01/2026 13:54

Never tried it and never will - I don’t even like yogurt. It sounds beyond foul!

missmoffatt2705 · 10/01/2026 13:54

Some unflavoured ones are quite sour tasting, like natural unsweetened yoghurt. However there are ones that contain mango or blueberry with some sweeteners. These taste like fruit yoghurt. Have you tried the flavoured ones?

MyThreeWords · 10/01/2026 13:54

YABU. It's delicious. Are you trying plain natural kefir or some weirdy messed-up version with additives?

is it easy to do? I don’t know where to start. I’d love some pointers if you have the time please!

This.

The thought of fresh cow's milk makes me retch. God knows how anyone can stomach this abomination.

CheeseandFigs · 10/01/2026 13:56

I couldn't imagine drinking the more liquid kefir, but I like kefir yoghurt. Just tastes like a natural yoghurt, there's fruit flavoured ones too which taste fine. But I prefer the plain version and add fruit, nuts and honey

Loads of foods are made by cultivating little populations of bacteria and/or yeasts.

Cheese, yoghurt, beer, wine, bread, for e.g.

bombastix · 10/01/2026 13:59

I like it, and it’s very good for you if you are in peri. Small glass to drink.

Why in peri, out of interest?

paddleboardingmum · 10/01/2026 14:01

I've had a yoghurt one and a fizzy drink version. Couldn't finish either.

I know that. 🙄 But Kefir tastes like sewer waste. Most of the other things you mentioned don't. If you (or anyone else) think Kefir tastes nice/OK, you must have dead taste buds.

Yeah ... I wonder this too.......

What an adult level conversation 😂

Me too. My guess is that, as it has with most every product in the whole wide world, the menopause has been roped in to the influencer marketing of some kefir product or other.

Mosaic80 · 10/01/2026 14:07

I make my own and it’s quite sour and yeast-y tasting. More so than the bought ones. But it’s so cheap and apparently better in terms of bacteria so you only need a shot per day to help your stomach which is quite easy to drink even if you’re not a fan. Or I add to Greek yoghurt with vanilla protein powder and fruit which disguises it.

bombastix · 10/01/2026 14:08

Okay. So I find it helps with bloating and digestion, which is an unpleasant aspect of my perimenopause. But it may be any fermented food could do similar.

Also high in calcium which is good for bones. Though obviously I can’t really observe that effect!

Dweetfidilove · 10/01/2026 14:09

I really like the plain one, but have it with blueberries and nuts.

My daughter has hers with vanilla essence.

I don't know that I could have it solo, and I'm not a huge fan of the flavoured stuff.

olderbutwiser · 10/01/2026 14:10

I make my own, it's much more sour and strong tasting than the commercial ones and I love it. But it's cow's milk - goat milk kefir is too much for me.
