To expect a takeaway to be delivered in the snow?

girlfriend44 · 08/01/2026 19:52

Never done it myself.

I see the takeaway driver going put though and I think is this a necessity to get someone out in bad weather to deliver you food?

Dont you have something in the house you coukd eat?
They say dont go out unless you have too. Our local.police are saying this tonight.

Is a takeaway really
necessary? Food for thought.

You wouldnt want to go out and collect, but your happy for someone else to drive to you in bad weather?

Driver won't be glad of his wages if he/she has had a head on car crash, dented the car when sliding off a road or when the car is bogged, stopped, in snow.

If the Police are recommending that more thought needs to go into ordering take-away right now, it is due to them having to deal with increased incidents.

Maybe the delivery person can’t afford to not go to work cos of snow. Real life probs.

I dont believe that.

I happily work outside in the snow, I don't mind driving in it at all, I bloody love snow.
I am actually a bit gutted when people cancel on me because of the weather especially when they say its to help me out. It doesn't help me at all, I lose all income.

Doubt most of them are properly insured for delivering food either.

You seem quite clueless and privileged to be honest.

Yes but its a foul evening, surely you get that and people shouldn't be travelling unless they have too.

A takeaway is not an emergency.
Think of the driver.

There's some projecting happening here. From the driver's perspective (and I've chatted with several about this exact subject) - they often see it as an opportunity to earn more! Some drivers stop working (by choice), which then increases the amount of deliveries available, which can be seen as a good thing as it's less competition, so better rates. From a customer perspective, there's loads of reasons why people may order rather than go out for themselves. It's not all just people being lazy.

I dont believe that.

You really don't have a clue do you 😂

Vodkamartini3olives · 08/01/2026 21:15

My son does food delivery and he makes an absolute killing when the weather is bad. If the delivery drivers didn't want to be working then they wouldn't be working.

ClashCityRocker · 08/01/2026 19:56

I have a friend who does deliveroo and he loves going out in bad weather as he says you get much bigger tips because people feel guilty

Your friend is on to something! I had a delivery earlier and tipped the driver which I don't normally do. Disgracefully it wasn't even food it was wine.

A lot of disabled people rely on delivery apps as their only source of hot food. Others may not be able to get out and shop and ran out of stuff.

Also the takeaways need the money - if everyone stops ordering when they are still open then they are losing money.

Can't they eat a cold meal for a day or two?

Duckswaddle · 08/01/2026 21:17

God there are some sanctimonious, cranky cunts on here 🤣

I dont believe that.

Why don’t you believe that a poorly paid job, with unsteady earnings (so it’s hard to plan around that) could lead to someone having to work in less than ideal conditions to pay their bills?
Jan is a shitty month for drivers at the best of times

I have a few neighbours who get food deliveries - they are young, not disabled and drive. Just too lazy and entitled to fetch for themselves or to cook.

I have a few neighbours who get the bus sometimes. They are young, not disabled and drive. Just too lazy and entitled to walk.

I have a few neighbours who have a milkman. They are young, not disabled and drive. Just too lazy and entitled to milk a cow.

I have a few neighbours who buy their kids ice cream from the ice cream van. They are young, not disabled and drive. Just too lazy and entitled to go to the corner shop.

Honestly, these lazy, entitled youngsters using perfectly ordinary products and services! How dare they?!

You seem to know an awful lot for someone who doesn't deliver food.

Round here they are all insured, from the dodgy cash in hand drivers to the properly paid, taxes submitted etc lot (my sister being part of the latter group).

Because the police round here are SHIT hot on checking this, and getting pulled and stopped from delivering for incorrect insurance really really fucks up your week, or month!

Lazy and entitled for ordering food? Entitled why? Do they get it for free od they pay from their own money for which they worked for? And lazy why? Maybe the time they would spend cooking they need it for someone else? Everybody is entitled to spend their mo ey as they wish. I dread to think there is curtain twitcher out there counting and judging my takeaways. Mind your own buisness and don't judge people from behknd the curtains!

Surely if you have a takeaway in any weather it means you can’t be bothered to go and and get it yourself?

First post usually nails it - isn’t that what they say?

I think the drivers ultimately hold the decision here (I’m speaking of Ubers and just eats). They decide to sign on when it suits them so if it’s available, it’s available

In any weather?

It takes a special kind of ignorance to not consider that some people are disabled, elderly, can't drive, or all 3 of these things.

AbsolutelyZeroFoxGiven · 08/01/2026 21:35

girlfriend44 · 08/01/2026 21:10

I dont believe that.

But yet back in the real world these drivers are delivering. If they didn’t need to work I’m sure they wouldn’t

Cutecattoes · 08/01/2026 21:39

One place here put up a Facebook status up about an hour ago saying they weren't accepting delivery orders.
Personally I wouldnt order a take away but would quite happily walk to collect.
I've not long come back from the shop and looked like Olaf when I walked back in the front door 😅

PollyBell · 08/01/2026 21:40

Would delivery drivers still be paid if people dont order?

Sure it is not up to customers to worry about how they earn their income but I dont see how it helps not to use them where they may want to earn money

Biskieboo · 08/01/2026 21:47

girlfriend44 · 08/01/2026 21:10

I dont believe that.

Oh well that's it then - case closed. Perhaps the delivery drivers should just take January off and go skiing instead, or maybe pop to the Caribbean for some winter sun?

Seriously what a load of twaddle; as many others have said it's quite simple; 1) if somebody is willing to do the job in bad weather then chances are they really need the cash (or just want to grab the chance to earn a bit more); either way you're not doing them a favour by denying them the chance to earn, and 2) some people are just not complete wet blankets when it comes to bad weather.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 08/01/2026 21:48

We ordered a takeaway earlier when there wasn't a flake of snow. By the time it arrived, there was snow!
