To think loo roll is not enough

Not the nicest subject in the world -sorry!

I live abroad and bathrooms have bidees (spelling) I don’t use these, but always use wet toilet wipes which are said to be easily disposable here and not harmful to the environment
Since doing this it makes me think how normal loo roll paper is pretty gross and just can’t possibly get you properly clean 😬

I'm baffled

vegetarian diet=plenty of whole grains, fruit and veg=plenty of fibre=soft, malleable poo=likely to make more mess on the way out

poor diet=less fibre=hard, dry poo=less mess on the way out

surely?

Not all vegetarians eat like that though - plenty live on pizza, chips, cheese sandwiches, eggs, veggie sausages rolls etc.

Vegans tend to be a bit better due to the lack of cheese, eggs and butter (so less pastry) but just being vegan doesn't guarantee an excellent diet.

We have reusable wipes (cheeky wipes).
I've had them stored waiting to get rid of now that the kids are out of nappies. But it got me thinking.
We use them for kids and babies.
Why not adults? We still use the face ones all the time, and they're so much better at cleaning than any kind of disposable wipes is.

I'd happily have a wet bag in the bathroom and just use reusable wipes and wash, just as I used to wash the dirty reusable nappies.

Maybe I'll do this at home!
I do use wet wipes occasionally as it helps when my haemorrhoids are playing up (sorry TMI 😂) but I do only ever use them at home - perfect solution!

30 years and adult children here - so plenty of time for action! We are always pretty clean, and we don’t smell. We just don’t feel the need to sanitise ourselves before every encounter; neither of us has hang-ups about hygiene, and I think it would be rather miserable if we did.

I don’t have hang ups about hygiene. I just prefer to be fresh before being intimate.

I fell for the marketing of 'Wype' that kept appearing on Facebook and I really rate it.

It's basically a gel in a pump that you put onto regular toilet paper, so that after 'dry' wiping you can clean with that. It doesn't make the toilet paper soggy. I keep a pump next to each toilet in the house and there is also a travel size, so I have that in my handbag. Definitely feels cleaner than dry paper alone

Edited

It’s much cheaper to use a lotion.

…and you don’t use your arsehole to eat with or touch things with it after wiping it so pointless to compare the two!

Not at all. I prefer every bit of me to be shit-free but you crack on.

( With cack on your crack 🤣)

ChattyCatty25 · 04/01/2026 20:26

No it doesn’t.

I have a shower bidet, it doesn’t rebound on the seat unless you have a shower pump on giving ultra high pressure.

But even if that was the case, it’s much better for poo droplets to happen on the toilet than it is to happen in the shower, where everything is supposed to be clean and you’re standing in it with your bare feet.

Everyone complaining about shower bidets washes their arse and fanny in the shower which is much worse.

Not true - plenty of people just prefer to do the extra cleaning with wipes or Wype first, and then the shower for the perfect clean. It's not bidet or nothing.

slughater · 04/01/2026 22:44

I don't know any vegetarians who live on pizza and chips !

Sazzles169 · 04/01/2026 22:47

Consider a peri bottle or getting a bidet if you want a deeper clean.

Wipes can block your pipes or the sewers and should never be flushed. And IMHO binning wipes daily is just binning money when water will do the job.

Sorry, but there’s no way I’d have sex with someone after a long day and umpteen bathroom visits.
I’d feel distinctly unclean and uncomfortable and I wouldn’t be able to relax.
Would you give/receive oral sex with someone in this scenario? I wouldn’t go near anyone’s nether regions unless they were freshly clean.

Sex does not always happen in bed at bedtime between two people who have just showered and washed their nethers. You can't be that naive? These days as a married woman yes most of my sex is in the evening after a shower in bed but it certainly wasn't always the case

My vegan mother lives off toast. I genuinely worry sometimes for her health. Some days she'll have toast for breakfast, beans on toast for lunch and tinned tomatoes for dinner. She a perfectly good cook but finds cooking for one to be a pain.

What if the intimacy was spontaneous? Would you pause for a shower?

Perhaps it’s just conditioning but putting shitty bum wipes in the bathroom bin seems more rotten than a bumhole having traces of poo on it for the time being pooing and showering.

Eloquently put 😂😂

Wasn’t the case either, for me. Took me two minutes to freshen up with a wash cloth and some soap.
I tend to keep myself pretty clean, anyway.
Nothing worse than a pissy minge. 🤣

I wonder how humanity survived for so long?

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · 04/01/2026 23:12

I love a bidet or hose. Water is best. But sometimes toilet paper just has to do.

never wipes, unless you put them in a bin. You absolutely can’t flush, regardless of what the packaging says.

BarbieBrightSide · 04/01/2026 23:13

Thedownwardspiralpath · 04/01/2026 22:12

I tried baby lotion on loo roll having read about it on here. But on balance I prefer the Wype gel, it just feels cleaner to me. I have also used wet wipes in the past, but always bagged and binned, never flushed.

Winterburn · 04/01/2026 23:18

Yeah, it’s generally enough. At the end of the day, your asshole is between two bum cheeks and is kept beneath both underwear and outerwear. It isn’t going to come into contact with anything, so there’s not going to be any contamination or germ transfer (well, certainly shouldn’t). I haven’t yet come across anyone dropping trou and rubbing their chocolate starfish on door handles or dining tables.

Even if you use a bidet, unless you’re also thoroughly soaping up said asshole, you’re still not killing germs. Same with wet wipes (none of which are flushable by the way!)

As long as you keep your hands properly washed and clean, then you’re perfectly fine until your next shower.

Minjou · 04/01/2026 23:41

You know if you need wipes or to wash your bum every time you poop, you'd be better off looking at your bowel health and getting some food fibre into you.

I agree. A high fibre diet means it's less solid/more mess while if you're constipated there's often nothing to wipe.

I'm prone to UTIs so always use wipes and bin them. Otherwise it's an instant UTI for me. When you see what comes off with wipes after using dry loo roll I could never go back to just using dry tissue.

I agree there's no such thing as a flushable wipe.

I agree toilet paper doesn't get you clean.

I use bidets or sprays if available, but at home use cloth wipes which I previously used for my baby before they outgrew nappies. They get put in a mini wet bag and washed. They're really good. More grip than a wet wipe, none of the environmental hazards, and good when on your period too.

Bourneo · 05/01/2026 00:18

Wype is great. Easier and longer lasting than wipes too.

I buy them in bulk. They're pennies per day. I've already explained why I use them & I am fine with paying for the convenience over reusable cloths at this point of my recovery.

i am going to try the lotion on TP though. (None of the (medical, no rise required) skin cleaners worked as the TP just disintegrated.)

Franjipanl8r · 05/01/2026 00:37

Ye old jug of water works well and has done for thousands of years. Jug of water next to the sink - put water in it - pour at the top of your bum crack - wipe with toilet paper or reusable cloth wipes if you want to go more eco.

No need for disposable wipes.

Franjipanl8r · 05/01/2026 00:39

I’m going to get a bum gun connected to the loo when I get our bathroom re-done. Much better than a bidet.
