To think loo roll is not enough

Not the nicest subject in the world -sorry!

I live abroad and bathrooms have bidees (spelling) I don’t use these, but always use wet toilet wipes which are said to be easily disposable here and not harmful to the environment
Since doing this it makes me think how normal loo roll paper is pretty gross and just can’t possibly get you properly clean 😬

Sometimes I wonder how the human race made it this far

Tbh, I do too.
How on earth did people procreate when they were all pretty minging, in the dark ages etc?

I suppose they were ALL minging and it was normal. Can’t miss what you’ve never really known.

My preference is to keep my arse clean and make sure my nether regions are freshly washed before engaging in any form or intimacy.

Well. You do you as they say 😆

We lived overseas and had a shattaf on every loo (also brill when you have your period). Getting one when the bathroom is refitted. I don't know why we don't have them in the UK.

If you got in on your hand, would you just wipe of off or wash your hand?
It IS on you.

It's buried up my bumhole, shielded by cheeks, underwear and clothes. If the tissue is coming away clean, that's good enough for me. It's not smeared all over my skin. As a pp said. I do not touch anything or anyone else with the inside of my bum hole, unlike my hands. It's not remotely the same.

to be honest I couldn’t care less what other people do.

i personally do use wet wipes, flushable on packaging. It’s basically damp toilet paper. I
then shower. I’m totally clean after a poo. I couldn’t care less if others have an issue with what I do, I’d much rather be clean than walking around with any residual shit festering.

Woods are NIF 'basically just toilet paoer'

they are NOT flushable no matter what lies are in the packaging.

if you want to use them (I Dili, but I'm going to try pump moisturiser on toilet paper) then please, put them in the bin. It seems horrible at first I know, but it's less 'horrible ' than fucking up the sewage pipes.

but why do you think you need to use wipes before showering?

BasilPersil · 04/01/2026 17:56

(the water doesn't go everywhere! You're sat on the loo while you are using it!)

RaraRachael · 04/01/2026 17:57

Shattaf made me 🤣

I can imagine in my accent, "Get that shat aff yer arse"

Well, that depends on your partner. My DH would think I’d cracked.

Really?
My husband appreciates me being clean, and vice versa.

Phelicity · 04/01/2026 17:58

Toilet paper alone is absolutely fine… surely it’s never too long afterwards that most people would be having a wash, bath or shower? I think people are becoming neurotic these days.

Suit yourself, then.
I prefer to be clean and not have shit residue on me.

My husband seems to appreciate that we can sometimes just rip each other’s clothes off and get to it, rather than scheduling an appointment and going off to scrub up as though we were going to perform surgery 🤷🏻‍♀️ takes all sorts I guess!

'Dab, don't wipe' is the best advice I ever received.

autumn1610 · 04/01/2026 18:03

I use Wype gel I love it and you just pop it on toilet paper

SwayingInTime · 04/01/2026 14:17

OMG I hadn't thought of that, I think I assumed they had mixer functions?!

I'm also abroad - some are cold only, some have a mixer. We have mixers at home, but mostly I use ours on cold only. One paper wipe (total 6 plies) then the bum gun. I was laughing during COVID, we never had a run on loo rolls at our supermarkets.

chrissycn11 · 04/01/2026 18:06

We have a wash/dry toilet called Closomat, it squirts warm water and then gives you a blow-dry afterwards.

tartyflette · 04/01/2026 18:07

We have a ‘shower toilet’ or ’washlet’ in our bathroon at home as we didn’t have space for a bidet.
It’s really good, customisable for up to four users and, er, aim-able.
It has a bum wash function plus a coyly named ‘lady shower’ button so you can clean yourself from stem to stern.
And, it operates via a remote on the wall next to the bog.
(Also, we are in Spain at the moment and have a bidet in the apartment so we are definitely sparkling clean.)

Married 27 years and three teenage DC here, our days of ripping each other’s clothes off are pretty much long gone 🤣
We did actually used to do that, btw. I just made sure that I was clean to start with and had a surreptitious visit to the loo and a clean with a wash cloth first. Genuinely can’t relax if I don’t feel clean.

(am happy to be a bit of a slattern at times so long as no shagging is involved 🤣)

Perhaps it’s just conditioning but putting shitty bum wipes in the bathroom bin seems more rotten than a bumhole having traces of poo on it for the time being pooing and showering.

No worse than nappies in bins. Bathroom bin is only used by me & lined with a bio nappy sack. I have a very keen sense of smell & visitors who would tell me if there was any smell in the bathroom. I put the nappy bag tied up in the general bin & then out that in the outside bin.

personally I've had a stroke & don't have the energy to shower more than once a day anymore (if that) & my body no longer poos regularly first thing (as it used to) so timing pooing & showering is no longer possible. So I use Tp & a wipe afterwards to make sure I'm totally clean, between showers 🤷🏻‍♀️. It's not ideal, but it's life after my stroke.

i am going to try moisturiser on TP though. The various medical skin cleaners I tried made the TP fall apart too easily.

We had bidets (not hoses) installed when we had the house refurbished when the kids were little. It was great for cleaning their bums when they were toilet training. Now they’re older and it is just as useful for ensuring hygiene when on a period as it is for ensuring a clean bottom after a poo. Ours are temperature controlled and have a perfect temperature all year round. At first our friends mocked us but since then plenty of them have copied us. It’s quite common in France and Italy (DH is European).

I always wet a tissue with water and use that to wipe if I am ever somewhere without a bidet. I would never use wipes as they are atrociously bad for the environment and it wasn’t that long ago a road near us was dug up for months while they cleared a blockage. It was put down to wipes and fat being put down the loo!

On another note, my brother who’s a doctor and sometimes has to perform rectal examinations says it’s very obvious when you have patient who cleans with water and one that doesn’t!

tartyflette · 04/01/2026 18:08

Ours has the dryer function too!

30 years and adult children here - so plenty of time for action! We are always pretty clean, and we don’t smell. We just don’t feel the need to sanitise ourselves before every encounter; neither of us has hang-ups about hygiene, and I think it would be rather miserable if we did.

Beeloux · 04/01/2026 18:10

With a bidet I would imagine you're just spreading the shit particles towards or in the other hole. 😟It’s not like it’s soapy water being used to clean your bum.

I lived in a country where bidet was the norm and public toilets used to regularly have a fishy BV odour and water all over the floor.

I use wipes and put them in a nappy sack then bin. Thankfully I tend to only go for a bowel movement once a day at the same time and shower after.

There was a woman from the environmental protection agency in Ireland on the radio before Christmas saying wet wipes aren’t ok and how disgusting the clogs are that need to be sorted. If you wipe with toilet roll, which is fine to flush then when you have a shower you’ll be washing off anything left over. Wet wipes should honestly just be banned except in the cases where they’re needed for children/ adults that have issues and need the additional help.

Evident from other threads, many women on mn don’t wash down below properly. Think soap anywhere down there means instant thrush. Or just let the water trickle down and don’t scrub.
