To wonder what US Trump voters think now

Their country's reputation trashed. The man they voted for heavily implicated in the Epstein scandal. Contempt shown to them abroad.
About to completely shift Ukraine. Enabling Netanyahu to commit mass murder of children with their tax dollars. No roaring economy. The environment fucked probbaky beyond saving due to their inaction.
What, in all honesty, do the 75 million who have caused this catastrophe think?

By coincidence, problem because my Dad was here at Christmas and likes the Beatles, Paul McCartney performing, "Hey Jude" in the Whitehouse to Obama has just come up on my YouTube account, this was 2010, goodness things weren't perfect but it's so unrelatable that it seems more like 60 years ago than 15/16!

Probably not "problem".

How do you feel about Greenland though @RingoJuice and all the tariffs and the Canada becoming a state stuff.

You know the bits that affect the rest of the world and how the rest of the world views the US.

The whole idea of a Presidency wasn’t that one man had all the power and could make the decisions it was that the power was with the people for the people. That they had a say in who ran the country and were not simply given a leader by his birthright.

A beautiful notion (even if the people didn’t mean the people and still doesn’t really given all but one of those who have been President are white men.

Doesnt it bother you that the principles for which America does see itself as being great for are being eroded - certainly in the eyes of the rest of the world?

The US is currently the high school jock whose days of being the one everyone admired and wanted to be or be with have long since gone but they are still wearing their letter(man) jacket with not only pride but a belief that everyone wants to wear it as well

The globe is not a popularity contest and I really don’t care how people perceive my country. Europe is well liked, that doesn’t mean they achieve any of their objectives wrt to climate change or human rights.

Greenland can join other countries, if the US made all 60,000 people or so instant millionaires and gave them free access to the American mainland, and future rights to oil/minerals found on their property, why wouldn’t that be a good deal? Maybe they could accept it, we don’t know if we don’t try.

Tbh I would never want to accept Canada as part of America. I don’t want their left-wing voters to fuck up my country

Maybe if he learned to spell it they'd be more likely to give it to him?

Their property ?

You mean the houses on the very thin coastal strip around the edge.

It's not Texas. No massive reaches, all in private hands. The vast interior is covered in ice up to 3km thick. There is a reason it is sparsely populated, mostly by indigenous folk.

There is an alternative. If a company want to mine something, then apply for a license to do so from the Greenland government, pay them the fees and a % of the take etc. That's how these things normally happen.

As a matter of interest, would these new 60k US citizens get a vote ? Or would they be like DC, Puerto Rico, American Samoa. Taxed without representation.

Maybe the Greenlanders should go fact finding to Puerto Rico. Natural disaster ? No problem, POTUS can chuck them some kitchen roll, then go on twitter rant about how nasty their Mayor is.

Tell Trump, he is still bigly upset about not winning the Nobel Peace prize

https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3mbtrrd2fhk22

Yeah I think it was counterproductive for him to angle for it as well. Trump, they not gonna give you the Nobel, just go home and fix our country!!! (Still not unhappy with my vote tho)

How do you bear living on the UK with this 'left wing' government, it must be quite traumatising for you or are you just hamming it up for the Mumsnet audience? Surely you don't really believe this stuff?

I have lived in China, the Middle East and Africa so I’ve seen worse tbh. I try not to let politics rile me up that much, you should try it

Goodness, so you are well immersed in different cultures but only see the good in your own.

Tiswa · 07/01/2026 17:15

@RingoJuice you do know that Greenland is part of the EU and therefore already have wxcellent opportunities if they wanted it.

They don’t want to join the US, they don’t need to and they want to preserve their land - that is their priority and I don’t think money will overrule it

There’s little harm in a charm offensive to sell the idea, but Europe seethes at the thought. We’ll see how it shakes out in any case

Sell what though? Independence perhaps yes but true independence
How would you take someone deciding Puerto Rico should be taken away from the US?

Europe seeths because Greenland IS part of Europe you get that don’t you?

I'm afraid you may want to look at your delivery then as you come across as very hostile towards other cultures and your countries supposed allies!

Not sure most Trump voters particularly care for Puerto Rico

Haha. You do understand that the world is not for sale. That presidents are supposed to erm... preside, not play fucking monopoly with Greenland et al.

I can honestly say, I could be offered $100m to take an American passport and I wouldn't take it.

Does it occur to you that not everything is about money?

ETF: spelling mistake

user233675892 · 07/01/2026 22:27

What could go wrong here? I'm sure they'll be responsible with it, use it for the good of both the liberated Venezuelans and his electorate at home.

PBS News: The Trump administration plans to put money raised from seizure of Venezuelan oil into bank accounts outside the U.S. Treasury -- they told lawmakers today per multiple sources familiar. Sources said they understood these as similar or decidedly "off-shore" accounts.

Do you really believe this? So many of your posts have been derisive about other countries and you see little fault with any aspect of the trump rule of your own. It’s shockingly narrow minded, and I agree rather surprising of someone well traveled
perhaps you really have just drunk the kool aid or whatever you say

we have our answers everyone. They’ll never stop the worship and are totally brain washed. The only question is if there are still enough of them

Well I totally 1000% support the deportation measures. Worth it.

But yeah pls go challenge some of the other stuff, you won’t find me complaining if you do

Remind me, weren't you the poster who has immigrated to the UK?

How would you like it if we kidnapped you from the streets and packed you into an overcrowded warehouse just on the basis that you didn't sound like a local?

DdraigGoch · 08/01/2026 02:02

Iceshine · 07/01/2026 14:23

Starmer.
Stupid autocorrect even my phone dont like him.

But im sure you knew who I was on about 🙂.

Since you ask, while I voted for an independent I did strongly consider Labour. I would say that Starmer should stop dithering and get off of the fence. He shouldn't have U-turned on the WFA.

He shouldn't be kowtowing to the Tangerine Tyrant - though I will forgive him for not telling Trump to get tae fuck if his rationale is that he needs to keep the Mango Mussolini sweet for the sake of Ukraine.

I respect countries as they are. They truly are different, and I have always enjoyed that aspect. They aren’t like Westerners—for good and bad. If you settle in another country and expect them to act as they do in your home country, you’ll have no end of trouble.

I believe it’s just a projection. I think you would see I have great respect for both China and Japan, probably have posted a bit about it, there are many aspects of Japanese culture that Westerners could learn from, and it helps to be aware of the Chinese mindset, even if you don’t agree with their ideology or their current trajectory.

Maybe I have a little less respect for MENA but tbh I find people are completely uninformed about the Gulf in particular and you’ll find people casually saying what would be incredibly racist and ignorant shit about the Emirates that they’d never say about Gaza or anyone else they perceive as ‘victims’. And that’s what I find tiresome.

Sometimes a country is poor and shitty because the people themselves make it so, and they’ll bring that dysfunction to your country. You should actually try to prevent that.

RedTagAlan · 08/01/2026 04:53

So now the Trump voters have a new cause to defend. ICE shooting a woman dead in Minneapolis. And straight away the comic book villain is jumping straight in on his social media.

In some countries you are required to carry your passport and have a valid visa. I had what was colloquially called a ‘gaijin card’ in Japan, police had every right to stop me and check it at any time (I’m obviously not Japanese so it would have been easy for them to do so)

I always carried my documentation with me. In China the police actually came to my home once to check my visa, and I was required to register at the local police station every time my visa status changed. Every foreigner had to do this.

The question is why were Western countries so lax on this?

If you have a valid visa or residence card, you should be carrying it around to prevent this. And if you don’t, you need to leave ASAP.
