Delivery driver woke us up at 0700 on a Sunday morning

A supermarket delivery driver crawled around the cul de sac for 5 minutes in his noisy vehicle then sat idling with whatever his radio was playing loudly.

I went to speak to him and he wasn’t allowed to deliver groceries to my neighbour until 0730 so sat outside my house waiting.

AIBU to have gone out and asked him to turn it all off/down?

Only asking as I did this and came back in to an angry teen saying he’s just doing his job etc. well he can do it more quietly and respectfully at this hour surely!? Now overthinking, should this be part of their training etc

Also pointless exercise as I’m wide awake now anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️

oh I agree normally but it’s my one chance not to wake at 0500 to walk the dog before work for another 8 days so this definitely clouded my judgement!

What a crock of condescending twaddle

fouroclockrock · 04/01/2026 07:34

That would annoy me too. Very thoughtless.

Where I live it’s pitch black at 7am, so well before the “crack of dawn”.

WarmGreyHare · 04/01/2026 07:36

It really depends how you asked.
I imagine you had an attitude/tone with it given how you felt so that is probably what upset your teen. Just going out and saying hey, could you please turn the music off would have been fine. But tbh, unless this is a weekly occurrence i would have just sighed and got in with it. I doubt you were going to go back to sleep at that point anyway were you?

Complain to the supermarket

DeftGoldHedgehog · 04/01/2026 07:38

Some of them are dicks. Most seem very nice but you do get the odd ones who block the road unnecessarily or who are noisy early in the morning. Definitely on a Sunday morning they need to be quieter at 7am than on a Monday. It's illegal to sit with the engine idling and he shouldn't have had the radio on loudly.

Likewise. Anyone saying someone playing music and idling a van at 7am on a Sunday for everyone on the street to hear wouldn't annoy them is clearly a saint or lying.

Even at midday, playing loud music for ages idling in front of anyone's house is shit behaviour.

Redpeach · 04/01/2026 07:42

Choosung early supermarket deliveries are very inconsiderate of your neighbours

We live on a corner and often have cars/vans parked alongside our house, either with loud music playing or cigarette smoke wafting into my back door. A couple of times DH has gone out if it’s early am or late evening, he tells them to be considerate, they always say sorry. We had an uber eats guy in his car parked almost daily outside for around a month, various times each day, he didn’t realise we could hear all his conversations (not very exciting). It’s annoying as they do leave the engine running.

tripleginandtonic · 04/01/2026 07:51

Yabu. He was working.

LorenzoCalzone · 04/01/2026 07:57

He was being inconsiderate.

And the "depends how you asked" comments are just plain old misogyny. OP, did you bat your eyelids and sweetly implore the nice man to let you get some beauty sleep?

...and who the fuck is Annie?

Autumnleaves82 · 04/01/2026 08:21

I sometimes wonder if people don’t realise that their radio or their handsfree phone can be heard outside of their vehicle!

I have a neighbour (I have no other problems with him/is lovely etc.) who leaves for work around 4:30am but at least twice a week he spends 15ish mins sat in his van either with the radio on very loud or having loud conversations on hands free, so I can hear the voice of the person he is talking to! My alarm is currently set for 5:15 on weekdays, so it’s not ideal.

I’ve not said anything to him yet. I think he genuinely doesn’t realise and would probably be quite embarrassed.

Squirrelchops1 · 04/01/2026 08:23

I'd be more naffed off at neighbour having food delivery at 730am on a Sunday. Who does that?

Someone taking advantage of a lower delivery charge, or who ordered at short notice. My late mother whilst not having 730am deliveries on a Sunday often had them at strange hours for a reduced charge.

Who is Annie?

YANBU OP. The Postman gave me the fright of my life the other morning when he was ringing my door bell at 6.50am to deliver a parcel - I was fast asleep and thought it was the middle of the night!
