Following on from the toilet roll threads on here today , I googled what is a normal amount of loo rolls a family of four use a week.
It says between 7 and 10 per week , AIBU ?

That sounds a lot. There are only three of us (including me who works from home), but we probably use about one roll every 2-3 days.

Are you being U to what? Think that's a lot? Not much? You've given no indication what you think.

KarenWheeler · 03/01/2026 21:49

It would surely depend on the ratio of male to female household members? Women and girls use a lot more toilet paper than men and boys.

Fidgety31 · 03/01/2026 21:54

At least one a day (3 person household ) but that’s mainlY because my son lines the seat every time he uses it

bridgetreilly · 03/01/2026 22:04

AUBU to google?

Oh that's worrying. I hope he's getting the appropriate support and help.

Artisanmom · 03/01/2026 23:42

Op you can get toilet seat liners. There are flushable ones too.

intrepidpanda · 03/01/2026 23:58

OK there is only 2 of us but we are 1 a week (and i pee a lot). Don't know how a family even goes through 7 to 10

Why? Never have I ever needed to use one of those.

How old is he?

introduce him to a cloth & toilet cleaner if he doesn't think your took ref seat is clean enough for the backs if his legs! Does he sit on grass. Walks etc outside in summer with shorts on?

@Poodlelove Are you U or NU about what? All you've said is that you googled something???

Twoboysandabengal · 04/01/2026 00:06

If you use water first then there is no need to use tons of loo roll, it’s obviously much cleaner too. I never understand people that don’t use water first !!! It’s extremely unhygienic

I doubt that they're genuinely flushable!

and it's not the op whose son is lining the seat anyway. At home you don't need seat liners.

I presume that hardly anybody really needs to use them - apart from if you regularly have to use toilets in truly unsanitary/grotty surroundings - outside cludgie in the corner of an open cow barn or similar.

The vast majority of them are almost certainly used by people with OCD and phobias about germs for their own reassurance... and I suppose they likely work out overall as less wasteful (and less faff) than using a whole toilet roll just to line the seat every time you go.

SkankingWombat · 04/01/2026 00:11

We buy in bulk from Costco and are a family of 4. I usually need to fish another 12 pack out of the loft every 3 weeks so that equals an average of 1 roll per person per week.
I think it can vary massively depending on the quality, however, both in terms of the thickness of the paper and how tightly it's rolled. We recently stayed with friends who had loosely-wrapped & tissue paper-thin loo roll, and I needed to use much more than at home.

1 roll a week for two people? 😲

PinkiOcelot · 04/01/2026 00:15

I honestly haven’t got a clue.

SnowDaysAndBadLays · 04/01/2026 00:16

Just me here, 1 roll every 4 or 5 days I'd say.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/01/2026 00:17

Women and girls need to use a lot more than men and boys. So it depends how the household is made up, as well as many other factors I’m sure.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 04/01/2026 00:22

Two females and three males in our house and we use about 2 per week I reckon!

PassportPanicFuuuck · 04/01/2026 00:31

I just stayed with my dad for a week and we both have IBS issues but even so I don't think we used much more than a roll and a half between us. What is everyone doing with the stuff?!

BrunchBarBandit · 04/01/2026 00:32

1 DH, 2 teen DS and me, plus occasional guests/2 bathrooms; we use 8-10 good quality rolls per week.

Actually, biggest consumer in our family is my son-in-law.

CommentHere · 04/01/2026 00:43

I buy a pack of 12 about every 2 or 3 weeks and there's 5 of us. So that's roughly 1 roll per person per week

Yes I misread, it wasn’t the op!
I agree not needed at home but if the previous poster’s son won’t sit on the seat without something then there are liners available.
no idea if they are actually flushable but I do recall reading ‘flushable liners’ somewhere!

mind you I may have misread that too 😅
