Was the girls at salon talking about me or am I overthinking

Hi everyone Went today to get my hair cut at my usual salon, walked in to see 2 girls on Reception desk and my usual stylist standing to the side where the waiting area was. Anyway I said hello happy new year and the girls at reception looked at each other and after looking at my stylist she looked at the girls who were still looking at me and said to me hello come through. AIBU to think this was rude of them as it seemed like they was talking about me or am I overthinking the whole thing

As none of us was there, it's pretty hard to say. Only you know if it felt "off" or not.

PennyLaneisinmyheartandmysoul · 03/01/2026 20:39

why would they be talking about you?

GoldOpenAccess · 03/01/2026 20:39

Impossible to say. They may have been talking about something else. They should have wished you HNY or said hello though.

Tina5 · 03/01/2026 20:40

Felt awkward to be honest

I bet it's nothing like that at all. You probably walked in just as the receptionist was describing the girth of her new fella's member or something similar. Any looks will have been to say 'Shit, did she hear that?'. Please don't worry.

mydogisanidiott · 03/01/2026 20:47

Its doesn’t make sense who was looking a who?

you walked and said hello
Girls the looked at each others,
you looked at stylist
stylist looked a girls
girls are looking at you
stylist said hello?

Evaka · 03/01/2026 20:47

The likelihood of them talking about you unless you know them well and are currently caught up in some sort sort of drama with them is ZERO.

What could they possibly be saying?

PollyBell · 03/01/2026 20:49

This feesl very narcissistic why do you think they dont enough to be talking about without you being at the centre?

Coconutter24 · 03/01/2026 20:49

No one here can tell you what they were talking about

fatphalange · 03/01/2026 21:01

You’ve not mentioned any talking? Just a lot of looking.

They wasn’t talking when I went in but it all seemed so awkward that it felt like they could of been - no hello/happy new year after I said it to them which I thought was rude of them both

It just sounds a bit cringey, you’ll move on. Not nice to go in all cheery then be met with a stony ‘wtf’ face. Were they young? I’ve found the young ens don’t really go in for the ‘happy new year’ thing.

HoppingPavlova · 03/01/2026 21:13

You probably interrupted them telling a dirty joke, or a story about someone known to all of them and they had to break it off mid-way and it became awkward. The chance of them talking about you was likely zero.

MammaTo · 03/01/2026 21:21

It sounds like a case of the Gen Z stare maybe? How old were the girls behind the desk?

You have started a thread asking random strangers who weren't there if two women were talking about you. It is safe to say that you are definitely over thinking it.

Gagaandgag · 03/01/2026 21:48

Never heard of the Gen Z stare! Didn’t realise there was a name for this!!!!! 🤪

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 03/01/2026 22:20

Impossible for us to know. If if happens again, say jokily ‘Oh my ears are burning! Am I imagining it!’ and you’ll see from their reaction if it’s absolutely nothing.

Popadomorbread · 03/01/2026 22:23

You don’t know what happened just before you went in. They could have just had a bollocking. One of them could have been stressed out and near tears. Don’t think on it a moment longer.

5128gap · 03/01/2026 22:29

The girls probably looked at the stylist to see if she was going to give them any instructions when you walked in. At mine, my stylist might prompt them to offer me a drink or ask them to sweep her work station before she took me over, or something.

Div is a bit harsh 😁

I never cease to be amazed at how some people interpret life. WHY would they be talking about you, care about you, be rude about you?
