Christ, Trump will do anything to take attention away from the Epstein files, won't he?

America is lost - it has gone fully rogue. I don’t know how any of its citizens can continue to tell themselves the old comforting lies about being “the good guys”. In one fell swoop they have given Russia all the justification it needs for Ukraine, and the risk of China taking Taiwan has increased massively.

I never imagined that the America of my youth would become such a danger to order and peace in the world. It is horrifying to watch. The population should be out on the streets.

You mean like the Venezuelan immigrants are?

Such handwringing on your part isn’t needed.

Quite. Many dead cats are predicted, although this was an unexpectedly large dead cat.

If you are not horrified by a president unilaterally deciding to bomb a capital city and kidnap its President just because he has a bigger military and no one can stop him, you are very much part of the problem.

Nesbi · 04/01/2026 03:12

If a foreign power kidnapped Trump for trial in their own country I wonder how many Americans would be out on the streets saying it was the most free they had felt in ages? I suspect quite a few.

And I’ll sleep soundly with that in mind as Venezuelan citizens may be on the path to real democracy and hopefully out from under a horrific regime.

But please tell me, what exactly do you support about Maduro? Which policy of his government do you support the most?

In a moment where Maduro and his ilk need to be held accountable. People should be supporting Venezuela rather than to come here to make this all about Trump. It is really concerning to see.

Yes they need to be held to account. But that does not mean it is in anyway ok for the US to ignore international law. There is no way what the US did was legal. And therefore that could seriously jeopardise any form of justice taking place.
You can’t just ride roughshod over international law. And you only need to listen to Trump and his merry men for half a minute to realise this was absolutely not done for the good of the Venezuelan people. It’s about oil. And making money for Trump and the US. To hell with everyone else.
And what message does this send to the rest of the world? That you can just go in drop bombs, kidnap the president and get away with it. What does that say to Putin? To China? To Iran? To Greenland, Ukraine, Taiwan?

The world has rules of war for a reason. We have international law for a reason. We have the UN for a reason. The US can’t single-handedly decide to the worlds policeman (something ironically Trump made clear he didn’t want American to be early on). Trump didn’t even bother to inform Congress. He is a loose cannon and completely out of control.

Interesting. Do you think Trump was moved to act out of concern for democracy in Venezuela?

I am pretty sure Trump could carpet bomb British cities and some members here would still gleefully support him.

Why does being opposed to foreign acts of aggression against sovereign states mean supporting Maduro?

I opposed the war in Iraq so that means I must have been pro Saddam? Such a juvenile way of thinking.

And to be clear Trump does not give a fuck about Venezuelans. This is solely about US economic interests.

Nesbi · 04/01/2026 03:24

I would say that @saltinesandcoffeecups is being breathtakingly naive to suggest this is about anything other than US access to Venezuelan oil, but they know it is. MAGA supporters will of course pretend otherwise with a smirk on their faces.

Does it matter? I mean… to answer the question another way. If your drug dealer neighbor has people chained up in their house. Is it still wrong to call the police about the drugs?

At the end of the day yes, he did what he did for American interests as he should he’s the American president. That’s the lens he should be viewing all his actions from.

Am I going to complain that less oil will be going China, Cuba, and India? Nope. Am I going to cheer that less drugs are in the Americas and specifically making its way into the US.. of course. Am I glad to see a sadistic leader out of power 100%.

Exactly why do you think Maduro should have been left in power? Please be specific?

TBH i think starmer is worse than trump.
At least I see trump doing his job even if the man's a loony, he's doing something.
What is the uk starmer doing 🤔, nothing just running the uk down.

What makes you think Trump is doing his job ?!
He hasn’t delivered on much and not the important things like cost of living and affordability. His ratings are tanking because America wants jobs and affordable food.
They don’t want a war nor a takeover of Venezuela. What he is doing is illegal and against the constitution. He is a convicted felon and it shows !

I've learned from your posts over a period of time that there's not really much point in debate. I recognise you from previous threads.

If you don't see a problem with Trump's actions in Venezuela, then our viewpoints are too distant to be bridged by arguing the toss over any of this.

I'd hazard a wild guess that you don't give a toss about Maduro or Venuzulen democracy. It's all a pro-Trump vehicle for you to shout from the top of.

OonaStubbs · 04/01/2026 03:41

It doesn't matter if Trump didn't do it for the good of Venezuelans. If it will be good for the people of Venezuela it will good for them, Regardless of the reasons "why".

And as usual you’d be wrong. I’d have grudgingly given Biden credit if he had done anything besides increasing Trump’s bounty on Maduro in his time in office.

I sadly had to give Obama credit for having the balls to get Bin Ladin.

But you are right, there is no point debating, because regardless of the motives there is no defense of Maduro and it’s a great day that he’s out of power.

He also has no right to install a government of his choice.
