Venezuela is a "troubled kid"...?? 🤔

Maduro is a dictator, 80% of his people live in poverty, up to 67% in extreme poverty. He is believed to be guilty of (but not limited to) humanitarian offences, human rights abuse, electoral fraud and corruption.

It is thought that thousands have died in extrajudicial killings and 7 million have fled the country to escape his regime.

I think I'd label Maduro as the "bigger bully".

As we are already seeing there won't be many in Venezuela mourning his capture and removal.

I think Venezuela is a troubled country and you seem to agree with me

I think that America has the most powerful army in the world and a leader that acts as if the law doesn't exist

AliceandOscar · 03/01/2026 22:37

Anyone who thinks this is going to work out well, just hasn’t learnt from history. America is very good at starting things, not so good at seeing them through or finishing them well.

tobee · 03/01/2026 22:38

What about Biden?

What about him?

Sideorderofchips · 03/01/2026 22:42

Im more concerned at this point that other leaders may think that international laws dont apply to them as well.

Well we’re a little island all on our own, Brexit means we don’t have the power of the EU behind us. We need to lick the arses of anyone who will be our friend, get used to it!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/01/2026 22:48

The random Starmer posts on here are really weird. Are they bots? Or just deeply stupid people?

A fair yet unfortunate point.

The Best thing this goverment could do is bring in compulsory Critical Thinking exams for the whole population. If you don’t pass you don’t get to vote.

I have always thought this. Selective democracy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/01/2026 23:33

Let's not forget Venezuela has oil. And lots of it. 🤔

dottiehens · 03/01/2026 23:51

Vavavum · 03/01/2026 20:52

Venezuelans are cheering and celebrating.

In a moment where Maduro and his ilk need to be held accountable. People should be supporting Venezuela rather than to come here to make this all about Trump. It is really concerning to see.

It is not about Venezuela. A country whichTrump cares not a jot for. The issue here is that the most powerful country in the world has illegally invaded a sovereign nation and kidnapped its leader.

The post WW2 rules based order is now over.

Anyone cheering that is as stupid as it is possible to be

Yes. I cannot abide Starmer but to upset Trump would be unwise. Unfortunately we need them a lot more than they need us.

What do people suggest Starmer does? Parachute in and kidnap the Venezuelan president and his wife back? 😂

HerNeighbourTotoro · 04/01/2026 02:27

sickofsixseven · 03/01/2026 18:51

Venezuelans are celebrating Maduro being removed. He was a dictator who led to his people being killed and exiled, and having their property and money seized. Hopefully they can now be an actual democratic country and the elected leader can take power

You are very naive.

Nesbi · 04/01/2026 02:48

America is lost - it has gone fully rogue. I don’t know how any of its citizens can continue to tell themselves the old comforting lies about being “the good guys”. In one fell swoop they have given Russia all the justification it needs for Ukraine, and the risk of China taking Taiwan has increased massively.

I never imagined that the America of my youth would become such a danger to order and peace in the world. It is horrifying to watch. The population should be out on the streets.

OonaStubbs · 04/01/2026 02:53

Say what you want about Trump, but he certainly gets stuff done. He doesn't just talk vaguely about how how something needs to be done, he sends the military in and does it. Our own PM could learn something from that, but won't.

Right… it’s like all the Chavez berets are a little too tight.

Just for fun… and in case ignorance is not the goal.

https://www.npr.org/2026/01/03/g-s1-104412/venezuela-nicolas-maduro-maria-corina-machado-opposition

Asked whether she would support a United States invasion, Machado claimed Venezuela had already been invaded by Russian and Iranian agents alongside drug cartels”

“This has turned Venezuela into the criminal hub of the Americas,” she said, standing alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere.
“What sustains the regime is a very powerful and strongly funded repression system. Where do those funds come from? Well, from drug trafficking, from the black market of oil, from arms trafficking and from human trafficking. We need to cut those flows.”

Not sure who Machado is?

The UN thinks highly of the state of affairs prior to yesterday in Venezuela:

www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/Documents/Countries/VE/VenezuelaReport2018_EN.pdf

Reporting on reactions from Venezuelans:

From inside Venezuela; https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c86vq753nwpo
The danger of speaking out against Maduro is still very real within Venezuela, as the National Assembly - which is dominated by Maduro loyalists - passed a law a few weeks ago declaring anyone who expresses support for US naval blockades a "traitor".
Jorge said he saw motorcyclists from colectivos, which are pro-government paramilitary groups in Venezuela, roaming the streets with weapons yesterday.
"It makes you a bit afraid to even go out to buy bread right now," he said. "We'll have to wait for the best and have patience."
Jorge added that he's worried about the influence of Maduro's ally, Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela's Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace.

Close to eight million Venezuelans have left Venezuela since Maduro came to power - and many of them have been openly celebrating Maduro's capture in the streets of the cities where they have settled.
In addition to the millions in exile, others are "missing, imprisoned, dead, or merely surviving", — which is "a true tragedy that had not been addressed by any country", Sandra said.

Outside Venezuela: https://www.cbsnews.com/miami/news/miami-doral-weston-venezuela-community-reactions-nicolas-maduro-capture-trump/

Chants of "Libertad" echoed through the area as crowds sang both the U.S. and Venezuelan national anthems, marking a moment many said they had waited decades to see. Demonstrators told CBS News Miami this is the most free they've felt in decades.

So with all of that… what was the problem oh yeah… that’s right Trump.

Sorry got a bit carried away there you all were saying?

Do you not see the problem with 'just sending in the military and getting stuff done'?

You think Starmer should ignore international law and invade a country to secure its natural resources to enrich the Uk?
