To prefer Prosecco to Champagne?

For some reason this raises a certain person’s eyebrows, almost as if it’s a moral failing on my part somehow.

What could be going on here?

Lambrusco!

SexyFrenchDepression · 02/01/2026 21:47

Prosecco tastes nothing like champagne! Cava is a nice cheap alternative but not prosecco IMO.

NewDogOwner · 02/01/2026 21:47

Once you are used to prosecco, Champagne tastes very dry.

Yes. They just like to throw barbs around a bit.

They sound like someone to walk away from, enjoying a glass of prosecco while you do. 🥂

Myfridgeiscool · 02/01/2026 22:11

Prosecco gives me a headache and dehydration. This Christmas I’ve enjoyed: Champagne, Cremant, Cava and Prosecco…in that order.
Cremant will be the next bottle I’ll buy, it was spot on. You can have my share of the Prosecco OP.

Sekt?

Cremant!

Aparecium · 02/01/2026 23:42

But in all of them there are variations. Some proseccos go down a treat, like a relaxed summer evening. Others are only fit for poaching fish.

Apparently champagne contains fewer calories and less sugar.

A health drink, if you will.

Indeed. I wouldn't touch the stuff except that I do it for my health. 😇 No pain, no gain I tell myself whenever I see champagne!

cakewitch · 02/01/2026 23:48

Im with you on this. I usually drink prosecco. I was given a bottle of champagne for christmas. It wasn't nice, and I used to LOVE it a few years ago. So ill stick with the cheap stuff now, ta.

Calliopespa · 03/01/2026 00:11

I just think they are two quite different things, and each to his own.

I know which I like though ...

Giraffehaver · 03/01/2026 00:15

I hate both

CruCru · 03/01/2026 19:13

I have a bit of a prejudice against sparkling wine in general because for ages a friend absolutely insisted that she could only drink that. So if it was just the two of us, we had to have sparkling because otherwise she’d have ordered a whole bottle for herself and it was too much. Usually it was Prosecco because champagne was more dear and Prosecco was the only alternative the pub did.

Tulipvase · 03/01/2026 19:22

I like Prosecco (but not all) and don’t care. I’ve never had a cava or champagne I like but appreciate I’ve not had the most expensive of both.

I like very pale, dry Prosecco. Can’t stand yellow wine of any denomination.

PacificState · 03/01/2026 19:28

Food/drink snobbery drives me round the twist, it’s just so irrational and dumb. I guess all snobbery is really, but food snobbery is such a stark example. On the upside, if anyone raises an eyebrow at me preferring Prosecco or a well-done steak, it’s a quick and handy method of knowing for sure that they’re a wanker and I needn’t worry about their opinions on any other matters.

Bleachedjeans · 03/01/2026 19:30

I prefer top quality Prosecco to cheap champagne.

Bleachedjeans · 03/01/2026 19:31

Bougainsillier · 02/01/2026 18:04

Tbh if you handed me a glass of champagne, a glass of cava and a glass of prosecco I’d not be able to tell you which was which, just which I liked.

An honest response with no BS 😍

Vinho Verde sounds perfect! Light and acidic 8-11% alcohol!

As with everything, there are many different types to try. I love Vinho Verde and Prosecco and have been drinking both for a very long time and before they became ultra popular here,
I thoroughly disapprove of the Emperor’s New Clothes drinks police, sneering at people’s drinks, or how they are drinking it.
Such as raising an eyebrow if you add ice to a VV, but convinced drinking wine spritzer is somehow different and cool.
Be yourself.

I personally do not enjoy the taste of Cava - but for those that do, enjoy.

I prefer Cava to prosecco and crement or English Sparkling to some champagnes.

Cava is goooorgeous. Followed by cremant. Got a lovely cremant in the fridge but my husband's not drinking at the moment so we're saving it for when he's back on it.

pinkstinks · 03/01/2026 19:50

I like an Asti 😈

Edited

I sometimes put ice in my WW especially when with said snob because they ALWAYS, ALWAYS comment.

My 2026 resolution is actually to stop letting this pair of people get under my skin.

English sparkling is the best. Nyetimber is my personal favourite. I have had good Prosecco in Italy and Malta but the Prosecco that’s served in this country is shit.
