Why do none of my in-laws wash their hands

Need a rant to be honest. Actually sick of their lack of hygiene.

They’ve only arrived today and it’s making my skin crawl. I’ve gone to bed for an early night and I’ve just heard my fil going to the toilet, not flush or wash his hands. A few minutes later, mil comes up. She flushes at least but also, very definitely, does not wash her hands! The toilet is a small toilet along our upstairs landing (separate from a bathroom) and you can hear the tap being turned on very clearly.

We had chicken wraps for dinner, all putting their fingers in the sodding salad. Fil currently has a cold.

Debating whether to say something to my husband but there’s a huge backstory whereby he feels like I’m constantly criticising them, so probably best to keep my mouth shut. I might just passive aggressively repeatedly remind the kids to wash their hands tomorrow.

A drink from the fridge? Emptying the dishwasher and putting away the lovely clean plates?

I don't have a dishwasher hence why I spend half my life with my hands in soapy water

Maggiethecat · 31/12/2025 13:12

Let’s try again - a drink from the fridge? Putting away the lovely clean plates that have been drying in the dish rack?

I couldn't even tell you the last time I've even had a cold i don't think ive ever had flu maybe once in my life. I don't think ive had a sickness bug since being a child. I've only ever thrown up as an adult from alcohol or pregnancy.

My dad was similar. He never got sick, genuinely. He’d state it like a badge of honour that he never got sick because he never washed his hands (we’re talking ‘The Twits’ levels of hygiene here), he ate raw meat, and food way past its use by date.

And while there may be some truth that exposure to filth had built up his immunity, it didn’t change the fact that everything in his house would’ve been covered in poo, pee, snot, semen and my step mother’s vaginal secretions. Not somewhere I’d choose to have a cup of tea, thank you!

What are you talking about

I thought it was clear, I’m not going to elaborate. Try reading it again ?

fishfingerbutty · 31/12/2025 13:21

I’d have had to stop them from putting their hands in the salad and to use servers.
Some PPs here are dirty dogs.

If im putting dishes away iv just spent 5 minutes with my hands in soapy water washing them

WarmGreyHare · 31/12/2025 13:32

youalright · 30/12/2025 22:18

Why is it?

Do you wipe? Do you enjoy transferring urine particles and general vaginal bacteria to every surface you touch in your house? Do you touch the toilet lid to open it?
Washing your hands after using the toilet is the very most basic level of good hygiene.

It wasn't clear as you are saying its impossible for anyone to wash dishes as the water needs to be to hot to put hands in. How do you think people without dishwashers manage we don't just throw cups and plates after we have used them

Maggiethecat · 31/12/2025 13:34

Ahhh, you never have anything drying in the dish rack..

A drink from fridge?

Why are you touching urine and touching your vagina when going for a wee

Catsandbikes · 31/12/2025 13:36

youalright · 30/12/2025 22:11

I only wash my hands after a wee in public places not in my own home

WHAT???

There is absolutely nothing wrong with touching your vagina! There is something wrong with not washing your hands after you do.

Wtf 😳 fairy liquid kills bacteria thats why you use it to clean dishes. Actually stop and think about what you're saying and ask yourself if you are being a little bit hysterical

Catsandbikes · 31/12/2025 13:38

Lourdes12 · 30/12/2025 22:33

Same here. I only wash my hands in my own home after a poo

This is disgusting.

Sharpzebra · 31/12/2025 13:38

Eew that's disgusting to not wash hands after going to the toilet

StarlightLady · 31/12/2025 13:39

CalzoneOnLegs · 31/12/2025 10:08

I am thinking maybe I dreamt that too, because it’s too disgusting to be true - twiglet finger 🤮🤮🤮

As someone who always washes her hands after a wee, l don’t see anything wrong or abhorrent about that providing she washes her hands afterwards.

Seriously, it sounds your hands are more in water than out and that a few extra washes after wees is not going to do any more harm.
Even if you’re generally well, consider people who might visit and be subject to your contamination.
I suppose your rebuttal will be that you’re practically a hermit and no one is at risk.

I never said there is anything wrong with touching your vagina im asking why you are doing it when going for a wee. Obviously if you're someone who randomly starts masterbating everytime you go for a wee then absolutely wash your hands but I dont. You're all batshit

FuckOffMadison · 31/12/2025 13:42

youalright · 30/12/2025 22:50

So when you go for your 3am wee and you're desperately trying to stay asleep do you really wash your hands in the dark

Yes. Because I'm not feral.

Because constantly washing your hands dries them out and kills good bacteria. I can't say ive noticed everyone around me getting ill. Like i said previously I probably wash my hands more then half the posters on here but thats not necessarily a good thing

Batshit is trying to rationalise not washing your hands after a wee.

Because unless you wrap half a roll of toilet paper around your hand, there’s a chance that you are going to come into contact with your vagina while wiping. I’d rather risk skimming a finger over my bits and then wash my hands than get through 32 toilet rolls a week. Why are you so scared of touching your vagina?
