MN seems to be full of threads about awful husbands, families, and visitors.

Did anyone else have a perfectly fine/nice Christmas?

Mine was nice. I cooked for extended family and food was lovely, and low-stress. Family members were perfectly well behaved (even the more difficult characters!). Received some lovely presents, and gifts I gave were well-received.

All in all, a lovely Christmas.

Yes it’s been lovely so far and new year still to come

I don’t need any support or advise as a result

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 30/12/2025 21:18

It was fine. Nothing remarkable happened, saw some friends and family, nobody acted badly.

dynamiccactus · 30/12/2025 21:19

Yes mine was fine too - we all got on well without any arguments and are now back at work!

Sharpzebra · 30/12/2025 21:19

It was fine nothing amazing nothing bad just me and dh at home had a Indian takeaway and had our Christmas dinner boxing day instead was quite chilled and relaxed

Boxingshibes · 30/12/2025 21:20

I had a lovely Christmas. Parents came round, teenagers behaved, pets were good. Everyone liked their presents.
Eaten too much but had a great time.
Back to work Friday ( bizarrely) but enjoying the break.

YourZippyHare · 30/12/2025 21:21

Yep, same. It's been nice.

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2025 21:21

Ours was nice, good balance between seeing people and chilling out
We did what we wanted, ate what we wanted and it was loveely for the 4 of us to spend time together

TokenGinger · 30/12/2025 21:23

Ours has been very lovely, too. The children were both very happy with their gifts, Christmas dinner was delicious, DP managed to join a group call with his family in various parts of the world all on different time zones which made his day, and we got to see most of those dearest to us on the day. Not a single thing to grumble about. We had a wonderful day.

HyperactiveHyperdrive · 30/12/2025 21:24

Ours was lovely. Lots of nice food, gifts and time to chill out. It’s still another week before everyone is back to normal for us so we’re still enjoying it.

MelOfTheRoses · 30/12/2025 21:24

It was OK. 👍

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 30/12/2025 21:25

Our Christmas was lovely. The adult DC and extended family were home for dinner and a lovely evening of games and fun (we don't do presents). Then adult DCs and us on Boxing Day to chill and eat leftovers.

The only bad bit was the 27th when adult DC went home and the house seemed very quiet and empty.

Minniliscious · 30/12/2025 21:26

Ours was the best Christmas in a long time. No drama, no stress. I left everything to the last minute as usual but just took it in my stride and refused to get stressed. My starter and main came out amazing even if I do say so myself!

BadgernTheGarden · 30/12/2025 21:27

Yes, good fairly quiet no dramas (this year). Ate too much drank too much watched too much tv. New Year to come.

Joeninety · 30/12/2025 21:27

Bit like sex. The 'big day' is never as good as the build up. Only imo of course.

Expectations too high?

ApplesinmyPocket · 30/12/2025 21:29

Yes, and we're still enjoying it. The tree was so fresh it looks as good as new, and is definitely staying up till 12th night (it looks so pretty with all the coloured lights and decs, I'm going to miss it!)

The food was lovely, my nice family gave me beautiful gifts, and my darling little grandson (7 months, first grandchild) made it extra, extra magical (though obviously hes quite....hard work 😀- but he's worth it!)

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 30/12/2025 21:30

I had a lovely, low key Christmas and really enjoyed it. DH worked every day, but we still had a good time, saw friends and family and basically were happy spending a bit of time together.

IllAdvised · 30/12/2025 21:31

Yes, perfectly nice. For the first time we had a proper kitchen to host in, that wasn’t a building site. We had all my family on Christmas Day and DH’s the day after. DH cooked beautiful food, DS loved his presents, and I got a couple of wonderful things from DH.

Gliblet · 30/12/2025 21:33

It's been lovely - MIL stayed with us for a few days and was lovely company, we all went to my parents on Christmas day where everyone who was able to help mucked in with the cooking, enjoyed their lunch, helped clean up, and was grateful for some very thoughtful presents. I did most of the cooking (including lots of baking for family) while MIL was here so DH hasn't let me lift a finger since. I'm currently laying on the sofa under a blanket while he washes up, all the laundry's done, and DS has taken all his presents up to his room so things are fairly tidy too.

Like many threads on MN, people post about problems and things going wrong for support. So what you see isn’t necessarily typical of RL 🤷‍♀️

WallyHilloughby · 30/12/2025 21:34

Yes it was nice, calm, fun

TheHouse · 30/12/2025 21:35

Really nice. Popped to my mums Xmas Eve and saw my siblings for a few hours. Had some snacks but nothing formalised, we all just brought some along.

Xmas day was chilled. Just me, husband and 2 teens/1 tween. They brought down a game in the afternoon called imposter (it was on my sons phone). We are not really a games family so that was nice if a little unexpected.

The dinner was fab 😋.

I am a Teaching Assistant and really need this time off to just chill and decompress. Cba with any drama, although haven’t been immune to it over the years. Now we make a conscious choice to do less and spend it at home.

RainbowBagels · 30/12/2025 21:44

Yes mine was nice. I did most of the present and food buying which I like but the cooking was all done by DH because I refuse to learn how to do a roast dinner. I liked the presents, kids rolled their eyes and still went along with me pretending their stocking came from Santa, despite being 14 and 17 ( they still want to put out an empty stocking and to wake up with a full stocking on their beds so they have to put up with me pretending Santa did it! ) Watched some telly. Went too fast but I have a nice buffet for NYE all ready to go.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 30/12/2025 21:49

It was ok. Christmas Eve I worked in the morning but came home to all the prep done as DH was off. In the afternoon we had a walk, did M&S and then watched a film with M&S tapas.
Christmas morning was lovely, nice stockings in bed, all pleased with presents, pain au chocolat etc.
My mum and mother in law both arrived around 11. Nice hour or so with presents and fizz. Lunch was ok but find making a toast quite hard work…
Tried to play a game but couldn’t get it to screencast.
Grandmas went home about 5 which was nice and early, had a soak in the bath and watched another film before an early night.
Boxing Day was bliss, total chill out day.
Staying with friends for a lovely NY

I bought my tree on the 8th and it started looking noticeably droopy today, despite being topped up with fresh water on Sunday.

I’m hoping it lasts until the 5th.
