All my historically fat friends have gone thin this year

donttellscotty · 30/12/2025 15:43

Okay maybe not ALL of them, but a few friends/acquaintances who have been very big for years and years, tried everything but could never shift the slightest bit of weight, have all had dramatic transformations and shed many stones over the past year. It’s just becoming expected now whenever I see another formerly large acquaintance or relative pop up on my feed with a super slim selfie.

I (rightly or wrongly) suspect it’s got to be WLIs or similar? Although all are adamant it’s a strict diet only. Just to add there is NOTHING wrong with jabs at all, and I’m aware it’s absolutely none of my business, and I sound mean but I wouldn’t actually discuss this in RL. It just got me thinking that being overweight might be obsolete in a few years?

Anyone else noticing this trend with people they know?

nope

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 30/12/2025 15:47

yes, but they (and I) are open about it being WLIs.

robinsinthesnow · 30/12/2025 15:47

This hasn’t been the case for me but it may happen yet. I think the cost puts a lot of people off.

ItsDarkNow · 30/12/2025 15:47

Yes.
3 people on my road are much slimmer in the last 3 months.

Locutus2000 · 30/12/2025 15:47

Anything which reduces the devastation obesity wreaks upon the body should be applauded.

Flowers999 · 30/12/2025 15:48

I am one of those people 🤣 lost 7 stone this year with Mounjaro. I get asked all the time if its the jabs and I always say no because, quite frankly, its not anyone elses business!

IsThisLifeNow · 30/12/2025 15:48

Isn't it a good thing people are losing weight and improving their health irrespective of how they've done it?

Yes definitely

The other thing is there really isn’t anything wrong with wanting a bit of privacy.

I was quite open when I decided to order Mounjaro. I just saw it as being equivalent to being a smoker who used nicotine patches (I don’t smoke by the way!) But I really wish I hadn’t - from the school mum who introduces me as ‘this is X; she’s lost five stone doing Mounjaro’ to the colleague who has asked me six times if I’m eating Christmas dinner before the break, to MIL who keeps asking ‘what the plan is’ - I don’t actually care if people know but it’s starting to feel like my defining quality and it’s really fucking tedious!

christmassytimeagain · 30/12/2025 15:49

Yes and lots of people who were already slim are quite frankly now emaciated

Crunchymum · 30/12/2025 15:50

Having lost 4st on MJ this year (and not openly divulging it to all and sundry as it's no-one else's business) I find other people's fascination with women's weight bizarre and unhealthy.

What is the issue exactly? That they aren't sky writing they have "cheated" by using WLI?

Why does it bother some people so much?

FWIW when I am asked about my weightloss by random people I don't want to discuss my medical history with, I just smile and nod and say I am on a successful health journey that is working for me.

Edited

This is true. I also feel like there will still be some people who have lost weight via other means this year, but everyone will assume jabs anyway.

Yep bil and sil spend £400 a month on mounjaro. They are transparent about it. Not seen her for a year and she looks ill tbh. Her face looks drawn.

ShawnaMacallister · 30/12/2025 15:51

Good for them :)
I haven't told anyone in my extended family that I'm on it due to my judgemental father but otherwise I'm open, however I know that weight issues carry a lot of shame, so I'm not surprised some people don't want to share.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 30/12/2025 15:52

I don't imagine obesity will disappear. I'm on Ozempic for diabetes and I'm gaining weight.

GalaxyJam · 30/12/2025 15:52

It’s not something I’ve noticed particularly but I’m sure it’ll come. It’s great there’s a way for people to lose the weight who have historically struggled to do so.
On the other hand I lost 3.5 stone last year without WLI and everyone assumes I’m lying 🙄.

Oh definitely, it’s just the pattern I’ve noticed of so many friends/acquaintances/relatives all simultaneously having very dramatic weight losses this year. It’s become the norm now for me to see, and I wondered whether others were noticing similar. As others have pointed out, this is a very good thing in lots of ways.

Not your business.

DarkForces · 30/12/2025 15:53

Well let's hope obesity is going to be obsolete. It means your friends will live longer and healthier lives. As will I. I hope my friends are delighted that I'm now a healthy weight thanks to Mounjaro.

Why does it matter how people lose (or gain) weight though? Seriously?
I like the above comparison to nicotine patches, no one bats an eyelid at those being used to combat a very unhealthy addiction…

FastFood · 30/12/2025 15:54

Is it a bad thing though? Body positive is over, and honestly, it's probably for the best, obesity is nothing to joke about or to wear as an identity badge. If people get treatment and improve their health and quality of life, good for them.

Gowlett · 30/12/2025 15:55

I have a friend who is obsessed with her weight, always talks about it, and food. And dieting. She’s done every diet club going. She’s never been slim in all the time I’ve known her…

I know she’ll be back on the diet wagon, in January (after eating everything in sight in December). I honestly think she should do WLI instead of her usual self-sabotaging routine.

Minnie798 · 30/12/2025 15:55

Yeah, it'll be weight loss injections.
It's kind of a given now.

TipTopHat · 30/12/2025 15:56

Ive lost almost 7 stone in the past year, keep getting asked if I have used WLI's which I havent, people definitely assume that's the case which is quite frustrating when i have worked my socks off on increasing exercise and stopping awful habits!

How do you think people lose weight on the injections? 😂
