All my historically fat friends have gone thin this year

Okay maybe not ALL of them, but a few friends/acquaintances who have been very big for years and years, tried everything but could never shift the slightest bit of weight, have all had dramatic transformations and shed many stones over the past year. It’s just becoming expected now whenever I see another formerly large acquaintance or relative pop up on my feed with a super slim selfie.

I (rightly or wrongly) suspect it’s got to be WLIs or similar? Although all are adamant it’s a strict diet only. Just to add there is NOTHING wrong with jabs at all, and I’m aware it’s absolutely none of my business, and I sound mean but I wouldn’t actually discuss this in RL. It just got me thinking that being overweight might be obsolete in a few years?

Anyone else noticing this trend with people they know?

Anything which reduces the devastation obesity wreaks upon the body should be applauded.

As long as they don't put the weight back on when they stop the jabs, I'd agree. Time will tell. Also, as long as there are no adverse side effects of the jabs that won't come apparent for many years/decades to come. Even with all the research etc., we still get instances where long term issues come to light even though no sign of them during the research stage and early roll outs of new treatments.

Oh definitely, it’s just the pattern I’ve noticed of so many friends/acquaintances/relatives all simultaneously having very dramatic weight losses this year. It’s become the norm now for me to see, and I wondered whether others were noticing similar. As others have pointed out, this is a very good thing in lots of ways.

There are millions of people worldwide on WLI so it stands to reason you will be able to notice a trend of people getting slimmer!

Nameymcnamechange25 · 30/12/2025 15:58

Yes! My Facebook is full of people who I believe have taken Mountjaro or similar. And a few who I am sure have as they've told me!

BusyBeatle · 30/12/2025 15:59

I8toys · 30/12/2025 15:50

Yep bil and sil spend £400 a month on mounjaro. They are transparent about it. Not seen her for a year and she looks ill tbh. Her face looks drawn.

£400 for both? That’s an excellent deal. Who is their provider?

Littletreefrog · 30/12/2025 16:00

I have lost 2 .5 stone this year. I didn't use WLI as I can't afford them but I have to admit it is their existence that finally gave me the push to change my diet and lose weight because I was getting left behind by all my fat friends who were losing weight with them. It is infuriating when everyone just assumes you have used them and that you are lying if you say you didn't.

No clue. I think this was before the prices went up.

Hopefully she’s happy with herself and your judgment was kept to itself?

Pedallleur · 30/12/2025 16:00

It's good until it isn't but damned if you do/don't. Like being back in school. You are too fat, now too thin.

Jugendstiel · 30/12/2025 16:02

Someone close to me has shrunk rapidly. I asked if they were taking injections but they said, no, they can't afford them, it's just diet. But they have never dieted like this before and I've known them for decades. Not saying they are lying, just surprised by the speed of the weight loss.

MyBrightPeer · 30/12/2025 16:02

“There’s nothing wrong with WLIs” and yet you feel the need to do a thread about it. Suspect you don’t particularly like no longer having overweight friends.

Flowers999 · 30/12/2025 15:48

I am one of those people 🤣 lost 7 stone this year with Mounjaro. I get asked all the time if its the jabs and I always say no because, quite frankly, its not anyone elses business!

Edited

I don’t get asked, thankfully but I wouldn’t own up if I did. Medications I take are none of anyone else’s business. I did have an acquaintance post a rather horrible thing on fb about all these people she sees on WLI and compared it to injecting class A recreational drugs, shortly after she’d seen me, which was nice…

Oh yes. I didn't say a word. I just hope she's happier and hasn't developed an eating disorder. Do people just keep losing even when tiny - when is enough enough - is there evidence that it can cause body dysmorphia?

TipTopHat · 30/12/2025 16:02

robinsinthesnow · 30/12/2025 15:58

How do you think people lose weight on the injections? 😂

By having their appetite supressed by the medication they are injecting.
Its not the same.🙄

Hallpast · 30/12/2025 16:03

yes I’ve got several friends who have always been obese and have lost huge amounts of weight this year via injections. They are really proud of themselves, look great and happy t talk about how they lost the weight. I’m also a long term goal member of SW. I’ve seen lots of people hit and maintain goal over the years using SW too

ChristmasLeftovers · 30/12/2025 16:03

Genuinely, good for them and don’t be so judgey.

vincettenoir · 30/12/2025 16:04

I haven’t noticed this in my circle. The only people I know who are on the jabs were slim anyway and are now super slim and ripped. And I don’t think being overweight will become obsolete. There’s still a relatively small number of people who can maintain the cost of jabs. It’s a significant outgoing.

Bebetterbetty · 30/12/2025 16:04

DarkForces · 30/12/2025 15:53

Well let's hope obesity is going to be obsolete. It means your friends will live longer and healthier lives. As will I. I hope my friends are delighted that I'm now a healthy weight thanks to Mounjaro.

Unless the NHS starts handing out WLI to anyone overweight who wants them, obesity will not become obsolete, but the health gap between the affluent and less affluent will widen.

it won’t even just be a gap between the poor and everyone else. Plenty of middle earners will not have the spare cash for this, especially if they have kids.

Its going to just create another health inequality.

I went to a big local party full of people I hadn’t seen for a couple of years and about ten of them had halved in size.

Astonishing really - a miracle drug for many.

Ineedanewsofa · 30/12/2025 15:53

Why does it matter how people lose (or gain) weight though? Seriously?
I like the above comparison to nicotine patches, no one bats an eyelid at those being used to combat a very unhealthy addiction…

But do people feel the need to hide the fact theyr'e on nicotine patches?

Wholenutislife · 30/12/2025 16:06

Im one of these people. Ive lost 10 stone, 6 on mounjaro and its no ones business whatsoever so I say the truth, I train hard, ive completely changed my diet and lifestyle - ive worked exceptionally hard. I just miss out that ive used mounjaro..mainly because people are very judgemental and however you loose weight should be applauded

vincettenoir · 30/12/2025 16:06

Redpeach · 30/12/2025 16:05

Some do, some don’t. It’s personal I guess.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 30/12/2025 16:06

Yes, I know several friends who have lost weight, they are open about being on WLIs though. That said, I also have many overweight friends who can’t afford the cost of private injections but don’t qualify on the NHS. They cost upwards of £150 a month so I don’t think being obese will become a thing of the past entirely but I do think it will become very rare in the middle and upper classes. There will still be people on low incomes who can’t afford them though, at least until they either become more widely available on the NHS or the cost comes down significantly.

PurpleCoo · 30/12/2025 16:06

TipTopHat · 30/12/2025 15:56

Ive lost almost 7 stone in the past year, keep getting asked if I have used WLI's which I havent, people definitely assume that's the case which is quite frustrating when i have worked my socks off on increasing exercise and stopping awful habits!

I'm on WLI and have ALSO worked my socks off increasing exercise and stopping awful habits. The two things aren't mutually exclusive you know. It's no use going on WLI and changing nothing.

DierdreDaphne · 30/12/2025 16:06

I find other people's fyascination with women's weight bizarre and unhealthy

God yes @Crunchymum . MiL thought speculating about the weight loss of various tv presenters would be a riveting topic of conversation over Christmas dinner...

She has always commented on other people's weight - including family members - so we know she will be commenting on ours behind our backs. Its so rude 😡

Autumvibes · 30/12/2025 16:07

Yes many people have lost lots of weight and I always assume wli. If it’s fast weight loss but good for them.
