Labour Voters. Honest question

Tryingtodobetter82 · 29/12/2025 23:46

I’m not looking to start an argument on this subject. I know it’s a very heated and emotive topic.

I have strong views on political issues. What with algorithms and biased news organisations, it’s very easy to end up only seeing information that confirms what we already believe. Because of that, you don’t often hear the other side of the political divide.

I’m honestly curious whether those who voted Labour at the last General Election, for reference I did not, would vote the same way if there were an early GE in January, purely hypothetical of course.

If so, I’d really appreciate you sharing what you feel they’ve done right so far in their term. I’m asking as I genuinely want to understand different perspectives.

YABU - I would vote labour again
YANBU - I wouldn’t vote for them again (or ever have)

They are up against right wing press so the good news doesn't get out , you so have to look for it they are not as left wing as I would like but they are making good changes and getting the job done. I like having a steady hand rather than a "showman" for a pm . So far (and there are more ..

All of the above plus new animal welfare laws, rejoining the Erasmus scheme, new laws to punish polluting water companies and clean up the waterways after nobody bothered when Brexit killed the existing EU laws.

I can probably think of more; that's off the top of my head.

ClawsandEffect · 30/12/2025 00:16

The thing is, the people you're talking to (Labour voters) are never going to consider voting Tory regardless because the Tories always screw over the working class/common people (not common as an insult, meaning the average person).

So no matter how good / bad Labour is, to most Labour voters, they are the least worst alternative.

I might consider voting Your Party, Green or at a push, Lib Dem. But never, ever Tory. I'm an older person and I've seen several times how they target the poor and the working class.

TheMateofOphelia · 30/12/2025 00:40

There are 3 categories in your poll.

  1. People who voted labour last year and would vote for them now.
  1. People who voted Labour last year and would not vote for them now.
  1. People who did not vote labour last year.

You have combined 2&3 in you poll choices pre-determining the outcome. YANBU will be the larger group, based on what we already know about voting trends.

ohfourfoxache · 30/12/2025 00:45

Unfortunately their plans for the NHS are going to take us right back to the days before the Francis Report, with virtually no quality assurance and precious little in place to ensure learning on a systemic level

Sadly it’s still better than a Tory alternative

Would I vote for them again? Yes. But only because the Tories/Reform is too awful to contemplate. I would dearly love to have an alternative

araiwa · 30/12/2025 00:46

How shit are labour? They've had 18 months to fix 14 years of the Tories shitting all over the country and they haven't managed it yet.

letsallchant · 30/12/2025 00:50

Yes voted Labour last time and would again. Not perfect by a long chalk but better than alternatives by a country mile. Pleased with the above list and with things like their plan to stop children being handed to abusive parents for visitation.

Interesting that this early election idea is one Farage keeps talking up. Given the parliamentary majority it seems highly unlikely to me. All other parties had better see what they think they can offer for 2029. It'll be harder than they think.

ChanceOfALifeLine · 30/12/2025 00:51

I voted for them and I would again.

The number one reason being, who the fuck else would I vote for? If I was in an area where the Lib Dem’s had a chance, I’d consider tactically voting for them.

They have done some good things. They’ve been shit at the PR side of things. Tackling the really big problems in the time they’ve had isn’t possible. Am I blown over by them? Absolutely not. Could they have done better? Yes. Would I want any of the other parties in charge right now? Absolutely not.

ChanceOfALifeLine · 30/12/2025 00:59

Felt the need to come back to this…

The problem with this whole question is that it is so short term! Even a five year term is a very short amount of time to make real change in government. To expect big change in 17 months is ridiculous. All this talk of whether Starmer will survive and whether Farage will be PM just undermines the current government, and whether you like them or not, undermining the government is awful for the country.

Livelovebehappy · 30/12/2025 01:05

I voted for them last year, having voted Tories previously. Thought I would give them a chance as the Tories had been so bad. But I was naive I think, and pretty much regret it now. It’s just been one long shitshow. I suspect a lot of people did the same - giving Labour a chance after they’d been in the wilderness for 14 years, but people are now remembering why they’ve been in the wilderness for so long. They won’t get in again, but I think they know that, which is why they’re trying to oust Starmer behind the scenes, to try to give themselves a chance.

Thortour · 30/12/2025 01:10

Bored now if the constant anti Labour posts on here.

Yes I would.

The wreckage of endless Conservative governments and Brexit is going to take a long time to unpick.

I think Starmer is a brave and honest politician. The criticism is relentless.

I also think Sadiq Khan is the best thing that has ever happened to London.

If you think Farage is anything other than a grifting charlatan then you’re a fool.

The tories are self serving and incompetent.

HaroldMeaker · 30/12/2025 01:17

I voted Labour and did not expect them to clear up the total shitfest left by the last chaotic Tory governments anytime soon. I’m relieved that we have a steady sensible leader now in Starmer, and quite honestly what the actual fuck do people expect after the damage that has been done here. I’m sick of all the whining by the left that he’s not left enough. And tories can literally fuck right off with the diabolical mess they made of it.

ohfourfoxache · 30/12/2025 01:43

It’s interesting how the Tories are now blaming Labour for clusterfucks that happened under Tory governments. The hypocrisy and ineptitude are truly astounding

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 30/12/2025 01:52

I've been incredibly disappointed in this labour government. They've done some good stuff but they've made a lot of mistakes. They seem to lack vision or any real sense of direction. They lack courage. And sometimes, they appear to lack basic competence.

However, I may end up voting for them again if I think they are the least worst option. It's too early to say yet what the likely options in my constituency will be, but if it comes down to a choice between voting Labour or letting Reform in, then of course I will hold my nose and vote Labour.

It isn't exactly as if there are any shiny alternatives that are more appealing in any case.

123H · 30/12/2025 10:27

Voted Labour last time and yes, I would vote for them again.

I think Keir Starmer is a decent, caring man. He’s not a showman, a joker or a bully like previous Tory PMs / Farage - if I wanted an arrogant comedian for PM I’d vote for Jimmy Carr!

Labour have done incredible things in 18 months (as noted above) but we rarely hear about them because all the media are out to get Labour. The billionaire oligarch media barons can’t countenance a Labour government!

Are Labour perfect - no, of course not. I would like to see them go further towards redistribution of wealth in our very unequal country; I would like them to be more ‘socialist’.

But, they’re a safe pair of hands and doing a reasonable job at clearing up 14 years of Tory shit! They will need two terms in office to really make a difference.

If the alternative to Starmer is Angela Rayner then it is out of the frying pan into the fire for us until the next GE and then for the Labour Party itself.

Digital I.D
Pay per mile.
No more jury trials.
Cashless society.
State surveillance.

Absolute no chance.

Hopefully they will be wiped out in Wales next year, that might send them a message!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/12/2025 10:45

Yes I would- my only major disappointment of their term to date was rolling back of the winter fuel tax which I think should be tightly means tested. They’re making positive changes but decades of corruption, greed and lies take a while to fix

MandingoAteMyBaby · 30/12/2025 10:45

I would vote Labour again for sure. Big improvements round here almost immediately.

I get the impression they can’t do anything without the hysteria of the mob criticising them; where was that mob during the 14 years of Conservative austerity ?

Overall they’re doing a reasonable job, I think most people are ok with it, and much of the noise is confected by the billionaire-owned press.

What ?

These are not exclusively Labour policies. The transition to cashless happened mainly during Conservative governments. As did “state surveillance”. This reads like a conspiraloon wingnut list of their weird fears.

mugglewump · 30/12/2025 10:51

I voted for Labour and I would again because, compared to the Tories (and obviously those shithawks Reform), they have integrity, they are less corrupt, they have a long term plan (not just knee-jerk media stunts), and they deserve a chance to show what they can do in the long term.

I really want to see re-nationalisation for cheaper utilities, proximity to the EU, more renewable energy, an end to the housing crisis, better funding for public services and a more compassionate society.

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want these outcomes.

EasternStandard · 30/12/2025 10:55

I think there’ll be more insight from elections next year on this
