Where in gods name are my car keys??

Anyone got any bright ideas what on earth I’ve done with my damn car keys??

I must’ve had them to get back into the house, checked all coat pockets, bags, shelves (where I usually put them) drawers, kitchen, bathroom, inside shoes in the hall, pulled sofa cushions out & looked underneath??

Agghh, really need to go somewhere tomorrow - where have you lost/found keys before?

I was told about St Anthony by a nun. She said it’s actually not the prayer-it’s the stopping, calming down and having a think makes you find them!

Imaginingdragonsagain · 28/12/2025 08:33

In one of the empty carrier bags you used for your shopping?

EleanorReally · 28/12/2025 08:33

dressing gown pocket, i speak from personal experience

ErrolTheDragon · 28/12/2025 08:35

presumably by now the bags used for the shopping will have been checked?

DH loses his a lot (fortunately we now have AirTags on all our car keys and house keys). More than once he’s sworn blind they’re not in the depths of his trouser pockets but they are. Confused
Mine are generally either in the wrong section of my handbag or the wrong pocket of my walking coat, even after I’ve looked once.

Having replaced one car key I found the original months later in a shopping bag on the back of the door. Putting AirTags on all my keys has been a godsend.

Found them 😁 They were in DHs car!!

We’d gone out in his car the other day, I’d locked the house using my keys and put them in the door well as I’d only got a little bag with me and they were too bulky.

So glad they’re found, no wonder I couldn’t find them in the house. I’m going to invest in some AirTags, seems like a sensible idea.

What you also need is to make sure they go back in the same place after each time......

IE Handbag, key safe etc

Woo hoo! Grin Great news.

RedRiverShore6 · 28/12/2025 12:13

That's good news and yes, get an AirTag, we have them on all the keys

ConcernedOfClapham · 28/12/2025 12:13

They’re over there; I can see them from here 🤷‍♂️

DistractMe · 28/12/2025 12:14

Glad you found them. As an incurable Loser of Important Things I definitely recommend investing in a locator tag. We use Tile, which is the Android equivalent of Air tags.

Your bra?

I just left my desk at work and walked up and down the corridors looking for my lost earring. I was most upset as they are a brand new pair I got for Christmas. Several of my colleagues helped.

About 2 hours later, I found it in my cleavage 🙄

OccasionalHope · 28/12/2025 13:55

Congratulations!

AirTags are amazing. I literally switched back to IOS because the Android ones don't compare.

The rechargeable universal ones are cheap (fiver or so) and do the job - you don't get the precision tracking but they have a heck of a siren and work with 'Find My'.

Sahara123 · 28/12/2025 15:10

Not car keys but we once lost the back door keys for several weeks then finally found them somehow entwined in the rocking horse tail ! Unfortunately just after my husband had chiselled out the lock to put a new one in …

Isn’t that what everyone thinks they do?Grin

Sahara123 · 28/12/2025 15:43

Yes, if you’re anything like me you come in the door, dog barks, husband wants something, I need the loo urgently, and before I know it the keys have disappeared to some random place while my mind is distracted by 100 other things !!

Thelessdeceived · 28/12/2025 16:09

Excellent news! I’ve twice lost mine and bought new ones after a week, only for them to turn up eventually. One of the times, I had left them on a bin outside the house that I was helping to clear and found them a week later. Luckily the house had a drive and the bin men left them there. The other time I think my cat was responsible and they were found under a coffee table with a low shelf.

Other places I have found (other people’s) keys: bag lining, coat lining, in a different coat, down the side of a car seat, in the innards of a sofa bed, in a different suit, between the sofa and the wall and in a storeroom on a shelf by the light switch.

Purplemoor · 28/12/2025 16:19

Last time I lost mine they were balanced on top of a flower pot in the garden. I had put them there while snipping herbs.

Unfortunately it took several days to find them, by which time I assumed someone else had picked them up and paid to have all three house door locks (keys attached to the car key) replaced and ordered a new car key.

A very expensive misplacement.

Near a wine glass from yesterday

YouveGotNoBloodyIdea · 28/12/2025 16:48

Thanks to you @Changingplace I went and checked my various keys and AirTags… one had run out of battery, two about to (6 in all attached to different sets of keys and things like the garage door remote). All batteries now replaced. If you get AirTags make sure you always have a pack of spare batteries….
