To not be worried about pregnancy at 38

Pregnancy1017 · 26/12/2025 18:44

Being as I’m we’ll pass age of normal age of conception

OP posts:
Zanatdy · 26/12/2025 20:11

i’m 49 and still assume I could get pregnant. At 38 you’re still very much fertile.

Nomistletoe · 26/12/2025 20:12

You (female & male) should be using contraception until you are in your 50s

Instructions · 26/12/2025 20:13

You're very silly if you're using "I'm 38" as contraception

Arlanymor · 26/12/2025 20:13

My friend had three kids after 40…

Happywalnut · 26/12/2025 20:13

I think I read you can stop contraception at 55 as you aren’t then considered able to conceive (if you haven’t had your year of no periods by then)

Anyone confirm I’m not talking rubbish?

Makingpeace · 26/12/2025 20:14

Normal age of conception? That's anything from starting menstruation in puberty all the way to menopause.

Congratulations (?) on becoming pregnant within that normal age range.

gogomomo2 · 26/12/2025 20:15

My gp practice nurse is pushing for me to have my mirina replaced and I’m 52. She had had a 55 conceive naturally (and carry a healthy pregnancy)

Rushedabit · 26/12/2025 20:17

Guess you’re bored and making this up OP?

On the slim chance you’re not, I had my kids aged 38, 39 and 42.

awrbc81 · 26/12/2025 20:17

Erm my friend just gave birth to an unplanned baby at 42 so….

Midnights68 · 26/12/2025 20:22

I absolutely don’t think you’d be told you’re too old to be planning a pregnancy at 38 on here.

A pregnant 38 year old wouldn’t get so much as a raised eyebrow in the area where I live.

I am I’m pretty sure if I posted I was going to get pregnant at 38 on here,I would be told I’m too old.

Have you been on the sherry?

Yes, at least I think 55 is the cut off hospitals use (otherwise they do a pregnancy test before certain procedures).
However, it’s not impossible to have a natural conception after that, just vanishingly unlikely.

TheIceBear · 26/12/2025 20:24

fgs it’s a completely normal age to have a baby. I just had one at 38. My mum had me at almost 39. Honestly I sometimes think the people in these posts are living in a complete bubble. I had my first at 33 and I’m one of the younger parents at the school gates with him.

Rushedabit · 26/12/2025 20:25

Surely OP is joking?

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 26/12/2025 20:25

I had my first child at 37 and got pregnant after dtd ONCE at 38. While taking the mini pill and breast feeding.

I then got oregnant again after dtd once (albeit unprotected) at 40. So yabvu.

Oh FFS grow up. As long as a woman ovulates and has sex she can get pregnant.

Only2daystogo · 26/12/2025 20:26

The closer you get to menopause the more eggs your body releases - greater risk of multiple pregnancy.

Cheese55 · 26/12/2025 20:28

She's not close to the menopause at 38!

Labamba78 · 26/12/2025 20:28

I work in HR and a huge majority of mothers going on mat leave are late thirties and early forties. Be careful!

cestlavielife · 26/12/2025 20:30

Did you mean 48?
38 is nothing

Whatsmyusername94 · 26/12/2025 20:31

gogomomo2 · 26/12/2025 20:15

My gp practice nurse is pushing for me to have my mirina replaced and I’m 52. She had had a 55 conceive naturally (and carry a healthy pregnancy)

Surely that’s rare?

LoveSandbanks · 26/12/2025 20:32

I have three children conceived at 33, 36 and 39. The one I conceived at 39 was the quickest conception. As soon as the coil was removed I was pregnant. It is recommended to continue contraception until 55 unless you’ve had no period for 12 months (2 years if under 50)

Having a baby at 40 is no longer unusual.

stichguru · 26/12/2025 20:33

If you're ready for another kid - good for you. If not, think hard about what you are actually saying. You are definately young enough to conceive!

Alltheusefulitems · 26/12/2025 20:34

At 47 I thought I was ok!! I had a termination earlier this year

Clearly you are not a regular poster or you'd know that threads about having children at that age are started about twice a day and you certainly wouldn't be told that

Also where do you live that this would be the slightest bit unusual?
