Would they go on Boxing Day and leave you home alone all day?
Just wondering if I’m being unreasonable because football bores me rigid and I can’t imagine leaving my partner of 6 years alone on Boxing Day.

Burningbud1981 · 26/12/2025 16:23

My husband has taken the kids out and has left me alone all day. Quite grateful tbh

TidyCyan · 26/12/2025 16:23

Yes - best match of the year for atmosphere and lovely to get some fresh air. Mine has driven 4 hours for a Boxing Day game and stayed overnight.

buzzwizz619 · 26/12/2025 16:24

Yep but im fine with it. I pottered around and did abit if shopping and got dibs on the TV all day 😂 i also made sure he hoovered up and did a few other bits before he left 😂

Burningbud1981 · 26/12/2025 16:24

Also to add I am very disappointed there is only 1 premier league game today 😂

Hallpast · 26/12/2025 16:25

Yes. He’d never miss a football match Boxing Day. I love the peace

Bloody annoying, right? I am stuck following Bristol City in the Championship.

Coasterfan · 26/12/2025 16:25

My partner and youngest do, me and the eldest couldn’t think of anything worse! It doesn’t bother me in the slightest. It bothers me more they have to watch on tv today as it’s an away match!

fluffiphlox · 26/12/2025 16:26

Yes. An opportunity to watch a film of choice with snacks of choice, though I went last year.

crivit · 26/12/2025 16:26

I was the one with a season ticket and would have zero problems leaving my partner alone for hours to go to a Boxing Day game. Partner gets some alone time plus, not a chance I'm missing that atmosphere !

It is! Last year was epic. I sat in front of the tv from 12pm - 9pm watching football 🤣😂

QueenofLouisiana · 26/12/2025 16:26

Yes, I was miffed they played away today. I’d have been very happy to wave him off while I did my own thing.

Destiny123 · 26/12/2025 16:27

Dad and bro go to westham nearly every boxing day. The dinner gets arranged around it lol

Arlanymor · 26/12/2025 16:28

Why don't you go and do something to entertain yourself? If my dad wasn't 80 and didn't fancy standing in the cold for 80 minutes we'd be at the Arms Park watching the derby with the Dragons. As it is we're watching it at home. Rugby not football, but it's just as a much a tradition when it comes to Boxing Day matches. Football bores me rigid too, but wouldn't bother me if a partner wanted to go and watch a match today - blow the cobwebs away.

Lmm34 · 26/12/2025 16:29

Yes, not bothered by it at all, especially now my kids have season tickets and join him. A lovely slice of festive peace.

sickleaveornot · 26/12/2025 16:30

Any kids or anything? If it's just the 2 of you then yabu, but of there's kids involved and he's just assumed you'll solo parent today then yanbu

I have a football season ticket. For sure i would go to the boxing day home fixture.

Surely you have worked out what a season ticket means after 6 years?

Lennonjingles · 26/12/2025 16:30

My DH and DS1 have been a Tottenham season ticket holders for over 25 years, they’ve probably been to 10 home games on Boxing Day, leaving DS2 and I home usually spent doing Lego. We’ve all gone 3 or 4 times. It’s worked out ok, when they get back from a lunchtime kick off we then went to in-laws in the evening. They’ve also gone to a few games on New Years Eve afternoon, we have a party in the evening, leaving myself to do everything. I don’t mind, I knew that DH loved football when I met him and DC followed suit, my DC2 girlfriend also loves football and they go to her home team.

My friend has a season ticket which her husband buys her every year. If her team were at home on boxing day she'd certainly be going.

Boomer55 · 26/12/2025 16:32

As a real football fan, I’d be hacked off to be left at home. 😳

EmeraldShamrock000 · 26/12/2025 16:33

Of course. Today is one of the better days to be a season ticket holder. I’d hate to have a relationship with someone who felt we needed to be together for the day. I’m home alone today, bliss.

CrawlingBackToYou · 26/12/2025 16:33

Yes absolute bliss love a football day, time to myself, eat what I like, watch what I like.

If I’m lucky they’ll be another on New Year’s Day too, perfect break.

TidyCyan · 26/12/2025 16:34

I keep poking the ticketing page for returns for my team's 2 games this week but nothing doing. They're like rocking horse poo.

HumbleStumble · 26/12/2025 16:34

Yes 💯

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 26/12/2025 16:35

DH didn’t go when DS was very small but that was more about solidarity in looking after hyperactive toddler!
He would go now unless we had very specific family plans. I wouldn’t expect him to stay at home just for the sake of it.

BauhausOfEliott · 26/12/2025 16:35

Boxing Day football is a huge tradition. I’d assume a season ticket holder would definitely go.

I love football so I’d probably go with him but if not I’d absolutely love a Boxing Day alone tbh.
