To think of going to Tunisia or Turkey for a holiday alone?

I’m a woman in my mid twenties. You can get an all inclusive hotel in Tunisia or Turkey for under £500. All I want is a cheap week in the sun. AIBU to go? My family all think I’d be stupid because it’s a risk. But it’s all I want

I'd happily go to Turkey (and have been 6 times), but wouldn't do Tunisia in your position.

All id do is the hotel. I’d literally not leave for the week 🤣

No-one on Mumsnet is going to tell you, you shouldn't go on holiday alone.

You're no more at risk in an AI in Turkey or Tunisia than you are anywhere else.

I have travelled all around Turkey alone. But I am S Asian. Nobody harasses me the way they might blonde women.

I will never do AI though.

We went to a really nice all inclusive with it's own beach in Turkey in the summer. I'd go there on my own it felt safe. It's called Marmaris Bay Resort.

I wouldn’t do Tunisia. I thought people were exaggerating the harassment women receive. They weren’t. It was off the scale and that was with a male friend in tow. Edited to add this was within a resort

Hinestly such a waste to go to the most beautiful country in the world and never leave the resort though.

The holiday resorts in Turkiye are more British than some places in actual Britain. You'll be absolutely fine there. I spent the whole summer in one of them alone at 18 and made loads of both British and Turkish friends- I had a blast.

If I wanted a week in the sun solo I'd choose Greece, Italy, Spain and enjoy the odd wander or sightseeing / browsing too. I dont think a week sitting by a pool in an AI with families, kids and couples drinking will be what you want it to be.
Best solo sun week I ever had was Sardinia. Cheap room, beautiful beaches walks and food.

All I want is a pool and a place to eat, I’m happy to be surrounded by families etc because all I want is to chill for a week. Like I said I’ve got four really go go go trips booked in 2026, so I’m getting my fill of sightseeing etc there

You will be targeted. 100 %. I found Turkey really bad in my 30's (and I was with DP, and am an olive skinned brown eyed brunette).
AI Tunisia was fine (but again with DP).

We went to Tunisia two years ago, my husband and 18 year old daughter! We went all inclusive and one day we planned to do some sightseeing in town, some shopping etc. We didn’t enjoy our day out of the hotel as it didn’t feel very safe wandering in town. I can’t explain it but I didn’t like the whole experience so we won’t be going back, also removed Marrakesh from our list too!

Not leaving the hotel is fine. Otherwise no, you’ll be harassed without end as a female alone.

I’d avoid North Africa entirely unless with a male partner sadly

Turkey probably ok but it’s an awfully long way to go to just stay in a hotel. And I don’t fancy AI at all. If booze is effectively “free” surely that attracts a certain crowd.

I’d go to Italy or Spain or
Greece and enjoy a bit of a mooch around alongside the chilling out near the pool

Depends how much cock you want, many a willing waiter in both places.

On your own? Go to Greece or Croatia instead.

If travelling alone i would wait until a week or less before departure and grab a bargain

Sorry I should’ve said in my OP - I’m going on four exploration holidays next year, literally go go go for the entire time. All I want is a week to rot by the pool and read books, I’m not looking to make friends or explore 😂

I really didn’t enjoy Tunisia and we stayed in our hotel pretty much all of the time. I still got harassed, and I was with my boyfriend. Really unpleasant experience.
