Important reminder re Santa

AIBU to remind you to go put the stocking presents in your kids’ rooms? I can feel the post-Christmas-Eve-party-hosting-wine-induced lethargy setting in. Those stockings seem so far from my sofa right now. There’s been so much trauma over the years from that unreliable Tooth Fairy character. Surely Santa won’t let us down…

She doesn’t have a stocking, thankfully! She has would never sleep if she did!

namechange3651 · 24/12/2025 22:03

😂 This is year 2 of the stockings being downstairs for this very reason, and I’m never looking back!

My DC are in the pub and their unfilled stockings on the hearth, but yes, point taken!

Our stockings go round the fireplace downstairs. Putting in them bedrooms is asking for mayhem

Squarestones · 24/12/2025 22:06

Ours are always downstairs partly for this reason but this year a god awful mix of tweens just young enough to believe, egged on by teens wanting to stay up late, none are in bed. Can't put any presents out yet. Exhausted and fed up of in law stresses, when can I go to bed ?!

Ineffable23 · 24/12/2025 22:06

Stockings go in the living room precisely to avoid this madness.

Sillysoggyspaniel · 24/12/2025 22:19

My kids are a bit scared of Santa. Another excellent reason to have stockings downstairs so that he just "pops in" rather than stomping around the house 😂

katmarie · 24/12/2025 22:19

Stocking are downstairs under the tree for exactly this reason. I learned from the masters (other mners Grin )

EdithStourton · 24/12/2025 22:22

We decided that the stockings went by the fireplace when DC1 was 6.
So much easier than hanging around till midnight and then risking waking them up...

MammaTill2Pojkar · 24/12/2025 22:35

My eldest asked me to take the stockings out of their (shared) bedroom as he was worried Santa might wake him up! I happily agreed, they will be waiting on the sofa for them in the morning 😄

MammaTill2Pojkar · 24/12/2025 22:37

Must say I loved waking up to a heavy stocking weighing my legs down on Christmas morning though, so it is a bit of a shame (I had a freakishly large stocking, at least twice the size of my sisters' ones 😅).

KabukiNoh · 24/12/2025 22:38

Why did I never think of this? Too late for this year. But next year Santa is staying downstairs nearer to my sofa (and tbf, nearer to the chimney related fireplaces. )

Thanks op..fillings are ready to go but with two teens I'm.hoping I can do them tomorrow morning.

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2025 22:40

Stockings are hung by the fire place! Anyway kids are grown now so haven’t done stockings since they were about 12.

Same!!! I’m so tired and wish they were downstairs

EmbroideredGardener · 24/12/2025 22:42

We do stockings on the beds so they would play with the smaller toys from them at 5am and not be dragged downstairs at a god awful hour!

We have a gro clock, they know if the owl is still asleep to stay in bed and either rest/try to sleep and that when the owl wakes up (7.20) they can come wake us. That with added naps during the day (for us not for them, we take it in turns to stay up and play with them while the other has another hour or so sleep) makes it much more doable lol.

Crimblecrumblerules · 24/12/2025 22:55

Mine are all grown up now (but still have stockings). I used to have 2 identical stockings each, one on the bed and the other pre-filled to swap over later on. I think for half their childhood Christmases stockings were on beds and they were allowed to open them when they woke (although I recall some very early morning), then we switched to by the fireplace. By the time they were older teenagers I was having to wake them up on Christmas morning.

Whatever you choose to do, enjoy it all whilst they are young. Mine have flown the nest and it's just me and the dog & cat in the morning.

NippyPete · 24/12/2025 22:58

Team on the bed. It slows them down and give you a solid extra 20-30 minutes of sleep.

GrannyTeapot · 24/12/2025 22:59

The very best parenting tip I ever heard was having duplicate stockings and having one filled and hidden somewhere to simply swap with the unfilled hung up one. It’s an absolute game changer on Christmas Eve.
Here, filled stockings wait at the end of Mum’s bed ready to open in bed with me.

Foxyloxy89 · 24/12/2025 23:00

Stockings downstairs here too!

God. That is genius.

Headabovetheparapets · 24/12/2025 23:02

🤣lol this reminds me of many many years ago when my mum told us that Santa had a very busy night to get through & wouldn’t have the time to go up to the bedrooms so would leave the stocking/pillowcase by the fire for the morning & it would be unfair to expect him to work harder than necessary. As she later inspired by us kids being very light sleepers🤣🤣

PurplePotatoes · 24/12/2025 23:03

Santa delivers the stockings to our bedroom for opening on our bed!
