Important reminder re Santa

AIBU to remind you to go put the stocking presents in your kids’ rooms? I can feel the post-Christmas-Eve-party-hosting-wine-induced lethargy setting in. Those stockings seem so far from my sofa right now. There’s been so much trauma over the years from that unreliable Tooth Fairy character. Surely Santa won’t let us down…

Stockings are hung on the wall in the frontroom here no fire place to hang them on. When I was a child they was hung on the fireplace.

Stocking are delivered to my bed room so we can open them while I'm in bed !!

Thank God my children now wake so late that Santa is able to fill the stockings at 7am.

One good thing about Covid meant the stockings were hung up on the outside of the bedroom doors. So much easier to fill that it’s stayed the tradition….

My kids are 16 and 18. I put their stockings out before they went to bed (18 year old went out to say goodbye to his girlfriend and 16 year old was falling asleep in the living room). I was tired and wanted to go to sleep myself 😂

Santa got caught filling stocking in the spare room last night. I thought DS was asleep about 11 but he wandered in saying he couldn’t sleep. I had my back to him with the clothes airer between us so I’m hoping he didn’t spot me. Dumped out the parcels whilst he went for a wee and put empty sack back on door handle and resigned myself to setting an alarm.

10 mins later DS wandered downstairs saying he couldn’t sleep and has spent the night next to me. DH went to sleep in the spare room and thankfully sorted it.

might be the last year of playing the “is he asleep game” as DS is 11 so probably sussed it by next Xmas. Gutted I didn’t get the memo on duplicate stocking, that would have been a game changer.

Must say I loved waking up to a heavy stocking weighing my legs down on Christmas morning though, so it is a bit of a shame (I had a freakishly large stocking, at least twice the size of my sisters' ones 😅).

I loved that feeling too! It felt like real magic that you could actually feel..having gone to with the empty stocking and then waking to it weighing down on you!

I'm currently in my DDs bed, as part of the mass Christmas sleepover, and waiting for my eldest (who is fifteen!) to fall asleep so I can text DP to come and do the stockings. I'm here as a mole 🤣

" I'm here as a mole 🤣"

Lmao, maybe I'm delirious from lack of sleep but this has cracked me up 😂

My daughter age 2 at the time, didn't want father christmas in her bedroom. Fair enough so always been downstairs phew

TheHillIsMine · 25/12/2025 06:57

For years I used red, blue and green dot stickers to denote whose gift was whose. This year I ran out of one colour. Substituted another, came to fill the stocking and can't work out whose is whose as apparently there are two new colours. Kids don't believe anymore but even so. I've Amazon primed new stickers in all the doors for next year.

We always had stockings downstairs, one year they wanted them on their beds. It was awful as they opened their gifts when they woke up and I really missed seeing them do it. Everyone agreed to stockings downstairs again after that.

As a kid I didnt even want father christmas in the house at all so used to ask for my stocking to be in the porch. I think my parents "collected it from the porch" and brought it inside at an appropriate time!😉

Bless her. That's so sweet. At least she gave Father Christmas a heads up!

They got a chocolate each 😂
