Can you settle a debate, do you consider Celebrations and Heroes classic Christmas chocs?

I don’t , only Roses and Quality Street are imo

Yes. Those four tins are always out at Christmas. I dont really see or remember the them before.

Hufflebuffs · 22/12/2025 16:45

All wrong. Terry’s chocolate orange.

mynameiscalypso · 22/12/2025 16:45

No! They’re much too modern.

Dominoeffecter · 22/12/2025 16:45

No, only Roses and Quality street

PassCaring · 22/12/2025 16:47

Yes, especially since Roses and Quality Street are ruined.
Real classic Christmas chocolate: Milk Tray

KimberleyClark · 22/12/2025 16:47

We just get a big box of Hotel Chocolat, never bother with Quality Street, Roses, Celebrations or Miniature Heroes.

tobee · 22/12/2025 16:47

Neapolitans

TheSweetestCon · 22/12/2025 16:47

Quality Street, thank you. Roses are awful. Heroes and Celebrations are parvenu chocolates.

Honourable exceptions may be made for Lindt and Ferrero Rocher.

smallglassbottle · 22/12/2025 16:47

They're all disgusting palm oil laden slop.

PruthePrune · 22/12/2025 16:48

No, they are available all year round. THE Christmas chocolate for me was Terry's Neapolitans which were only available around Christmas. Unfortunately they stopped making them years ago.

FourForksSake · 22/12/2025 16:48

Depends on one’s age surely.
Quality Street was a classic (sadly no longer).
Roses are the upstart (or maybe we just didn’t have them at home).
Heroes and Celebrations are ubiquitous but not classic: modern.

All are pretty gross though. We’ve added M&S Big Mix this year for the shiny wrappers. It’s still palm oil though bleaghh

MaarvaCarassi · 22/12/2025 16:48

I do now, but I know they’re new (to me) really - the classics from my childhood were Roses and Quality Street.

PuppyMonkey · 22/12/2025 16:50

Yeah, those two are definitely the Primark of the chocolate world. Quality Street aren’t a patch on what they used to be but they’re still a million times better than boring old Celebrations. Can’t think of a single thing special about a mini Bounty bar. Grin

TheSweetestCon · 22/12/2025 16:51

But really, they all taste pretty crap now. Chocolate isn't chocolate these days, certainly not the stuff you get in a supermarket, anyway.

Clearinguptheclutter · 22/12/2025 16:51

No because they weren’t a thing when I was growing up (80s). Back then there were roses and quality street, perhaps Thorntons if being posh
these days we are snobs and only eat hotel chocolat and Lindt. And def not roses or quality street.

ThankYouNigel · 22/12/2025 16:51

Ooh tough one!

I’m almost 40, so as a child it was absolutely only Roses and Quality St.

But my young DCs love all 4, so going forwards the 2 more modern ones (Heroes and Celebrations) will be viewed as more ‘traditional’ too.

paddleboardingmum · 22/12/2025 16:51

Only these are what I think of as Christmas chocolates:

Quality Street
Ferero Rocher
After Eights
Chocolate Orange
Liqueurs

Sartre · 22/12/2025 16:52

Yep. Are they even available at other times of the year? I only see any of these at Christmas. Hate Quality Street and Roses so only ever get Heroes and Celebrations, for DC more than me. I like a terrys chocolate orange.

FourForksSake · 22/12/2025 16:53

I’d love an original box of Black Magic. The height of sophistication!

Justlovedogs · 22/12/2025 16:53

No, Roses, Quality Street and After Eights with the possible addition of fruit jellies are classics. Celebrations and Heroes are still new kids on the block. Might just be showing my age there! 😂

Nourishinghandcream · 22/12/2025 16:54

Roses and Quality Street.

Wrapped in foil.

In a tin (which can be used for storing "stuff" for years afterwards).

Vitriolinsanity · 22/12/2025 16:54

The minute they put Quality Street in those nonsensical wrappers they were DEAD to me. I save the sodding planet all year round. The ONE THING I cannot compromise on is Quality Street is stupid wrappers that bleed dye all over anything when they are wet.

God, I miss those huge 2.5kg tins of Quality Street, with the drawings of the Victorian people on them. It was that, a bowl of nuts and those long packs of dates (maybe some Turkish delight in a wooden box too) and that was Christmas!

Edited to change the size of the tins - they were even bigger than I thought!

Maybe a tin of Danish butter cookies as well.
