U ok hun?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/12/2025 13:01

Hell, yes!

sprigatito · 20/12/2025 13:01

I’d be concerned about his dental hygiene.

TheKeatingFive · 20/12/2025 13:01

That's the whole point isn't it? Sexy bad boy trope.

WaterVolePocketWatch · 20/12/2025 13:02

The character was a violent bully who brutally murdered his partner, and he was a child trafficker.

If you admire the actor, say so.

that has always been a problem for me when i watch that. Sykes is so thoroughly detestable. But Oliver Reed growling and being all savage? Phwoar!

Catpiece · 20/12/2025 13:02

We went to the West End production last week. The actor playing Bill Sikes was lovely too x

Gardener82 · 20/12/2025 13:03

YANBU I would too.
I’d want to put him in the shower first though, he looks like he’s a little grubby.

zipadeedodah · 20/12/2025 13:03

The fact that he beat his girlfriend to death with his bare hands turned my stomach - if it wasn't for that scene then yes, he was a sexy bad boy

Upstartled · 20/12/2025 13:03

Oliver Reed was incredibly handsome and his voice was amazing. Not worth a black eye though.

Christmash · 20/12/2025 13:03

Tom Hardy played Bill Sykes too. Definitely would.

Great choice

Maybe after a breath mint.

Oliver Reed was sexy, certainly.

In a similar vein: Rufus Sewell.

Um, the character is fictitious …

Breadcat24 · 20/12/2025 13:06

Met Oliver Reed in a pub/hotel in Dorking in 1988
Drinking beer at 8am, referred to me as Totty. Definitely not sexy then

TheKeatingFive · 20/12/2025 13:07

Same kind of idea as having Jamie Dornan play a serial killer.

Agree. Used to drink in The Star in Braintree that we used to frequent. Very sad.

I would still have. I was insanely jealous when he got with his wife, she was only a few years younger than me (I didn't care about the 26 year age gap).
Bill Sykes was a man of his time. Oliver Reed never came out of character when he was around the boys, them being scared of him was genuine. Grabbing Fagan by the throat was off script, so the reaction was real. He was a brilliant instinctive actor, even in Gladiator.

Sgtmajormummy · 20/12/2025 13:29

Nancy certainly thought so…TO HER PERIL!

And Tom Hardy is usually too much of a low lifer, although he was great in Peaky Blinders.
My vote goes to Alan Bates as the bad boy with hidden depths. I loved him as Gabriel Oak.

Breadcat24 · 20/12/2025 13:30

To be fair I probably said the most offensive thing to him I could have. Not understanding why someone who did not know me would talk to me like that I said "do you work at the Leatherhead Food Institute?"

😂 That's hilarious 😂

That’s why I used the word ‘character’ …

The thread title is what you should have an issue with.

sorrynotathome · 20/12/2025 13:58

For a guilt-free, good-guy Oliver Reed film, try Hannibal Jones. You get an elephant as well.

No issues about a fictitious character 🤷‍♀️
