Australia terror threat

I want to go on holiday to australia. I've been before but after what happened to bondi beach, my friend is saying Australia is a very dangerous country and listed as a high level risk of terrorism. I said I still want to go abd if it was that dangerous the FCO would ban people from going. I said I would ask the travel agent when I book. The travel agent said she would still go to Australia but would not go to Israel and said she wouldn't feel as safe in Israel. My friend said the travel agent is only saying this to get me to book the holiday abd spend money so of course she will say yes go.

What does anyone else think? Does what happened on bondi beach pit you off visiting Australia

I've booked my holiday now

Realistically, a one off terrorist attack could happen anywhere. You'd be hard pushed to find a country where a shooting or bombing hasn't happened, so yes I'd still go. I agree that I wouldn't visit Israel though, I wouldn't go somewhere currently actively in a war.

Humdingerydoo · 19/12/2025 15:52

Now would be the best time to go to Australia as they're finally taking the terror threat seriously and therefore taking action.

Needmorelego · 19/12/2025 15:55

The UK also has it's Terror Threat Level (or whatever it's called) at a high level and it has been for years.

MidnightPatrol · 19/12/2025 15:57

No worse than any other western country imo.

MILLYmo0se · 19/12/2025 16:26

Did you or your friend stop travelling within the UK after the Manchester terrorist attack?

ThatLemonBear · 19/12/2025 16:28

Australia has a much better track record on terrorism than the UK. I’d be more worried about the spiders 😂 (it’s a great country, enjoy your holiday!)

EasternStandard · 19/12/2025 16:35

It’s no different to here in terms of a threat.

Go to Australia. This is what folk mean about terrorism - it makes you 'terrified' to do things. Go and have a wonderful time xx

Are they hell!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 they are doing lip service and making it look like they are but everyone who lives here knows they are doing fuck all as usual

NemoSaltatSobrius · 19/12/2025 18:49

@Nearly50omg Is this just your personal opinion or do you have any source material that would corroborate what you are saying? It can't all have been hushed up?

We never really wanted to travel round the UK and that's got nothing to do with the Manchester attack. Seeing other parts of the UK have not been of any interest. I have been to Somerset but that was only because my parents moved there and I used to visit them.

Any reputable links?

Or just frothing hyperbole?

Every country in the world has a high risk of terrorism. That’s just the world we live in.

No it’s not. Terrorism is an incredibly low risk per capita. So many things outrank it, from heart disease to murder.

It’s a teeny tiny little risk.

Take a walk and put down the mince pie and Bailey’s. Lack of exercise, sugary food and alcohol many times as likely to kill you. Many many times.

I witnessed a fight in Perth 2 years ago. A white australian was beating up an aboriginal and people were just standing around watching. Nobody had called the police and I shouted has anyone called the police. Eventually 4 police officers came and arrested the white woman. The aboriginal was very frightened

And?

I’ve seen fights in Latvia, Italy, the UK, Canada and France. I had to make them call the police in Latvia. I personally called them in Canada.

You asked about terrorism. Not arseholes fighting in the streets. Which happens in every town and city in the UK every weekend.

Racism is rife as well. Everywhere.

But again, you asked about terrorism.

Newsenmum · 19/12/2025 19:19

Pretty sure weve had more in the uk!

Hold on. If you’ve never been to Oz, how did you witness a fight there?

Or is this thread bollocks?

Off to report.
