Hair salon alleging I haven’t paid

wellbugger · 19/12/2025 09:25

Posting here purely for traffic.

I had my hair done last weekend. Their card machine was down. The stylist charged me over the app. I checked my bank in front of her and showed her that the money had left my account.

They’ve called me today to say that on their end, the money hasn’t come through. I’ve sent a screenshot of my bank which clearly shows that the money due has left my account and gone to them.

AIBU to think this is their issue now? I’ve paid, if they’re having issues with their app that’s not my problem

I don't get paper bank statements, but I can download them from my bank account online as a PDF. Don't all banks do this?

I have never heard of the Fresha app. Wouldn't it have been easier to do a simple bank transfer?

No because Fresha is also the booking system, so to pay with the app they just click pay since it already has your payment details and will generate a receipt etc

Fresha will also show you an invoice for the appointment and how you paid

Getdne · 19/12/2025 09:55

Absolutely do not pay again.
You sent the screenshots.
Their machine was down.
You will query it with your bank when allowed if they haven't received it in 15 days.
Tell them you cannot afford to pay it twice.
The issue is their end, you have had the amount deducted.

wellbugger · 19/12/2025 09:52

Call them up as soon as I notice it and pay? I’m happy to pay again if the money comes back. But I can’t afford to pay again if it doesn’t.

Then you tell them this and ask them to be patient. As I've said, I've seen it happen a lot and the supermarket has always insisted on 'double payment' (because they know the money will eventually come back to you). So if they are content to wait, you are lucky.

It is absolutely a known thing.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 19/12/2025 09:57

It's the week before Christmas and your salon are asking for a second payment because the app they use is delaying the payment. That's a poor show on their part.
As others have said wait your 15 days and ring the bank to dispute and then certainly if the money is returned you can send it again.

Cluckycluck · 19/12/2025 09:57

Just ring your bank and check where the money is.

You're making this a much bigger issue that it is.

If the bank are holding it to be returned you can explain this when you go down to the shop. Show them the details and advise you will send the money as soon as it is returned.

If the bank confirm the money has left them then its all on the hairdresser to contact Fresha.

Duckyfondant · 19/12/2025 09:57

Don't go in there. They will think you're going in to repay!

wellbugger · 19/12/2025 09:57

BunnyLake · 19/12/2025 09:55

Has the money clearly been deducted from your balance?

If so definitely sounds like an issue their end. I would still call my bank just to clarify then I would know I have done everything I can my end.

Yes it has. I can call them tomorrow but I don’t know what they can tell me

You have to set that all up though don’t you if it’s a first time payment. Bit of a faff when standing at the till area.

You said you showed them a screenshot of the transaction / your bank. However, the transaction may have been cancelled. You need an actual bank statement that shows the funds have been taken from your account. This has happened to me a couple of times and the funds looked like they had been paid, but my actual statement showed them being returned as the payee’s system had frozen.

Absolutely bloody no way would I be showing a shop my bank statement! That’s an incredibly private document! There’s all kinds of financial information on a private bank statement ffs! 🤦‍♀️

Taweofterror · 19/12/2025 09:59

wellbugger · 19/12/2025 09:53

They are though. Or they’d have not called.

There is a vast difference between alleging someone hasn't paid and telling you 'on their end the money hasn't come through'. If that's how they put it then they are clearly acknowledging that you made payment. They are saying it hasn't arrived with them.

At this point I assume they don't know if the issue is with you or their app. If other payments have gone through ok, it's reasonable for them to wonder if there's an issue with your bank and alert you to it. You have responded with proof and a willingness to help them sort it, it would be crazy for them to call the police.

I still think it's worth speaking to the bank. Make it clear to the salon that if the money bounces back too will make payment again immediately.

Your supermarket expected customers to be out of pocket paying twice?

The OP wouldn't be lucky to have them wait for money to come back into her account, should that happen before paying again. She's not done anything wrong so waiting would be a reasonable expectation.

I can't imagine most people can afford to pay twice for services in the week before Christmas and just wait for funds to come back in at some distant point in the future.

You can redact the irrelevant parts with a marker pen.

Autumvibes · 19/12/2025 10:00

Call the bank that you paid with and ask them what you can provide to show payment was sent. Usually there will be a transaction number.

BunnyLake · 19/12/2025 10:01

wellbugger · 19/12/2025 09:57

They might just tell you that the salon needs to speak to whoever their end and you can relay that to the salon with full confidence.

Loobyloolovesandypandy · 19/12/2025 10:02

wellbugger · 19/12/2025 09:35

I think the issue is that their card machine was down on Saturday. So they took payment via the app

if it has left your account but not reached the salons account it would seem the money has gone to someone else. Or does your bank account name the receiver so you know that the BACS info is correct

TheMorgenmuffel · 19/12/2025 10:02

You have proof that you paid. That is the end of it from your end.

Go there and show them your transaction so they know you didn't photoshop it if you want to, but do not pay again, that is bonkers.

What will the police so? Absolutely nothing.

I have paid. The money has left my account. There is nothing more for me to do

And if you have to find another hairdresser thats fine. They arent in short supply.

And if they say no I’m fucked, because I literally cannot afford another £221 my end.

It wasn’t a BACS. It was a payment direct to them using their app.

I wouldn’t even be going in. I’d just send the bank and fresha screenshot and tell them the money has left your account so you can’t do anything else other than watch and see if it comes back and then send it again. Seems like they need to chase with fresha.

What did they say after you sent screenshots? I deffo wouldn’t be paying twice.

Maybe that app likes to sit on money for a while before handing it over? Whatever it is you have very clearly done your part so don’t hand any more money over, you may never see it again.

If they ask for another payment I would just laugh and say you don’t have that in your account this close to Christmas. Show them both screenshots in person and then suggest they chase fresha. It’s come out of your account so really not your problem other than checking it doesn’t come back in.

We used to get this in the shop where I worked. The money leaves the customer's account and is 'in limbo' for up to a week. Then it's returned to the customer. If I were you I would tell the salon that you will wait to see if the money returns to your account and if it does you will go in and pay.

We used to get customers up in arms about this all the time. They hadn't paid, the shop didn't have the money, but it had left their account. So we would have to make them pay again which, in their eyes, meant they'd paid twice, although the first lot would bounce back in a couple of days - it's a fault of the banking system.

I wouldn't pay again until the money had returned to my account. If you were pressuring customers to do so, then you were in the wrong.
