If you don't want to send Christmas cards, because you can't be arsed/ think it's bad for the environment/ just don't fancy it/ find it meaningless, absolutely fine.

But please don't go on social media declaring that the reason you're not doing it is so you can give to charity, and act all holier than thou about it.

Especially if you're constantly showing off your spending on nights out, clothes etc, so maybe some of that could be used for charity donations, and you're definitely affluent enough to afford a few stamps as well as a couple of quid to Save the Children.

OK, I won't.

YouBelongHere · 17/12/2025 20:24

Agree - besides, packs of cards are only like what £2/£3? Fair enough some people have to send them and postage adds up but when people post stuff like that I do think they're just donating like £5 at most 😂

25flyby · 17/12/2025 20:25

Agreed. Its very weird.

I want to see the receipt for the money they’ve donated. Just so I know how many friends they have/ quality of cards they would have sent.

EvilParsnip · 17/12/2025 20:33

We had one of those. It didn't stop them sending a text to tell us how hurt they were that we hadn't sent them a card, though!

canuckup · 17/12/2025 20:41

Mate did this. Fbook poor me post.

I've hand made Christmas cards (barf) but because I'm sick (tiny violin) I can't hand deliver them

Ok then

Sesma · 17/12/2025 20:46

It is really weird, it just seems to be Christmas cards that need this charitable giving instead and to tell everyone what you are doing

CandyCaneKisses · 17/12/2025 20:48

A pack of cards is around £1 to £2 and people act like they are doing miracles by not buying them. Some family members still love to receive them so I’ll continue to buy them.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 17/12/2025 20:48

My neighbour did this, posted that she wasnt sending cards this year, later that day I watched her post a card through a number of neighbour's letterboxes Grin

JH0404 · 17/12/2025 20:50

I have two family members who post this on Facebook every year, it annoys me more than it should 🤣🤣🤣

TheBobbysAreSurly · 17/12/2025 20:50

I've got one of these - she gets dozens of replies saying what a saint she is!

CatamaranViper · 17/12/2025 20:51

We don't do cards but I always feel a need to explain this to people when they send us them. It's easier to put out a blanket statement and hope we don't get any.
I don't like cards. I don't want cards. I don't send cards. I don't keep cards. The ONLY cards I like are for birthdays from my nearest and dearest, ones I'll cherish when they've gone.

CheeseWisely · 17/12/2025 20:55

It’s just code for ‘I can’t be arsed’ isn’t it? I only send a handful but I send them to loved ones that we don’t see often, to let them know we’re thinking of them and we miss them enough to make more of an effort than a text. If they go straight in the bin the desired message was still sent. Not everyone sends back and that’s fine. I like receiving the ones we do get.

SeaAndStars · 17/12/2025 21:12

I'm glad when people do this. At least I know they've not crossed me off their list. To be fair, postage and cards are more expensive every year, it all goes in the recycling anyway. I'd rather the money went to charity.

chattyness · 17/12/2025 21:20

I don't do cards, but I don't pretend to donate to charity instead or declare fake environmentally friendly BS either. It's because I find them boring, plus I'm lazy and I don't care who knows it 😆

sprigatito · 17/12/2025 21:22

The only person I know who does this spends the rest of the year tediously tub-thumping on FB about her various causes, so the no Christmas cards spiel just elicits a slightly more festive eye roll.

Netcurtainnelly · 17/12/2025 21:28

Why send a bit of card that says happy xmas on and a fake santa or fairytale nativity scene, why not just phone them for a chat?

Properly take to them. Find out how their years been.

Mikart · 17/12/2025 21:32

I buy a good bottle of gin instead.
Haven't sent cards for 20 years.
( I also donate to charity but throughout the year, not just at Xmas)

Don’t people do both? It’s a completely different type of gesture.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 17/12/2025 21:40

I always think that
A-they're lazy fuckers who just CBA to do cards
&
B-they're lying and have donated fuck all to any charity.

GeishaTrumpet · 17/12/2025 21:41

I was just saying this to DH! Someone we both know has made a FB post saying how she’s not doing cards as she gives to charity all year round. To be honest I don’t see the correlation, couldn’t she do both? A pack of cards can be as cheap as £1. Plus knowing her as well as I do I highly doubt she gives to charity 😏 If you can’t be arsed or don’t want to do it then just say so.

FestiveFruitloop · 17/12/2025 21:43

Yep. Total virtue signalling.

See, that I would respect and would raise a glass to you.

No problem at all with people not sending cards, just the 'look at how ethical I am' stance that winds me up.

Christmas cards are a load of dogs do da.

So glad they are being phased out.

Im utterly proud to say ive sent and received none this year. Everyone zi know has seen the light and made a new tradition.

Pointless bits of card with fake pictures on them.

cityanalyst678 · 17/12/2025 21:50

Finally - someone has said what I have always thought. Every year various friends write this on social media, my first thought is ‘tight arse’.
I love getting cards, sadly it is dying out.
