Last night I watched The Two Ronnies Xmas Special from 1982 and Sorry! from 1988.

i literally laughed out loud at some of the sketches in the Two Ronnies -

and Sorry! is an excellent example of my VERY favourite TV genre -

Home Counties set,
middle class,
middle aged,
middle England, ‘
’middle of the road’
sitcoms 🙌

AIBU to want these programmes back on linear BBC1 and ITV?

I stole your one about the bleeding in the sink!

“what about, that’s the last time I act the tart for you Jerry”

Edited

That was a good one!

She brought black stockings on the advice of Barbara to tempt Jerry in the bedroom!

Did she

oh I thought it was early night scenario

everdine · 19/12/2025 15:58

She was worried Jerry was depraved because he was a leg man! They had all been talking about the next production the music society were going to perform. It was Sweet Charity which Margo disapproved off and tried to get changed but she was outvoted!

There’s an episode of Ever Decreasing Circles and The Good Life on BBC4 on Christmas Eve!

Fabulous!

I don’t have the BBC! I will have to find the DVD player so I can at least watch The Good Life Christmas Special!

I investigated!

Jerry was round at Tom and Barbara’s house waiting for a man to check the generator and Margo goes round to try and insinuate to Jerry she is “up for it!” but obviously Jerry can’t leave so she says

Well that’s the last time I play the tart for you, Jerry!” 🤣

Why was she trying to tempt him ?

i thought maybe she was competing with B and T!

She was bored, so fancied some “love making!”

do you think there was a gate in the fence? How did they get round the back?

have I discovered something overlooked by bbc!!!!

You could climb over the fence to get into each garden but Tom and Barbara had asked Jerry to stay at their house for the generator man while they went out to fell a tree on the common.

I think, if I remember correctly, Margo was bored and just walked into Tom and Barbara’s house through the French doors!

everdine · 19/12/2025 20:03

The houses never seemed to be locked. It was Surbiton in the 1970s!

Presto95 · 19/12/2025 20:06

Love so many of the old sitcoms already mentioned (I’m a 60’s child) The only recent one comparable for me is Ghosts, the UK version.

Oh yeah I know that - I just don’t remember seeing gate in fence and remember some shots having tall fence - will look harder!

The fence seemed lower nearer the houses because they are quite a few episodes when you see Tom and Barbara hopping over the fence!

Yes they don’t have left that detail out

but also when Margo and Jerry in garden fence is high

and I seem to remember Margo peering over it at full height

oo the intrigue 😂😂😂😂

Yes, it’s a mystery!

There is one episode where an article is going to be written about Tom and Barbara’s way of life and the reporter wants to take some photos. Margo is desperate to be in the article and you see her get a stool to look over the fence. She was pretending to cut her hedge!

Presto95 · 19/12/2025 20:38

I was a bit young to appreciate Monty Python but enjoyed “The Goodies”, don’t know if that’s been mentioned? Their take off of the adverts was hilarious and some of the episodes like “Kitten Kong” are still funny now.

Wonderful piano theme tune to Ever Decreasing Circles

Just Good Friends has a great flugelhorn solo on the theme tune (sung by Paul Nicholas)

When he was cast as The phantom, he couldn’t actually sing. He said he practiced on the bath!

Re Michael Crawford, he said that when he was auditioned by Gene Kelly for a part in “Hello Dolly”, they were looking for “an attractive idiot”. Kelly said that his wife thought Michael was attractive and he thought that he was an idiot. He did get the part though

Presto95 · 19/12/2025 20:50

Must stop remembering old comedies but a favourite from the 80’s/ 90’s was Drop the Dead Donkey, recently saw it a stage show with many of the original cast. Still funny but sadly missing a few actors such as Haydn Gwynne and David Swift whove died

That’s funny! 🤣

I thunk people couldn’t see him as anything else but Frank Spencer. Public opinion when it was announced he was playing The Phantom of the Opera was quite negative.
