So my kids in 2022 had flu A and my 2 year old got sepsis after being ignored by doctors s just a virus for a week after multiple trips, he recovered and he is ok.. skip to last year they then got flu A again a much milder strain but we’re still very poorly and now this year it’s everywhere again and seems to be an awful strain and I’m just dreading it.. before anyone says.. non of us are vaccinated we are to to date with all vaccinations and I’m really not an anti vaxer.. but I don’t know how I feel about the flu spray if I’m honest.. doesn’t look like they are working much.. I’m just also anxious about it.. how is everyone else feeling?

My daughter had the flu spray this year. Her best friend didn’t. Her best friend was ill for over a week with what was suspected to be flu. My daughter was in contact with her the first day of her symptoms. My daughter never even got a sniffle. I don’t know for sure that the spray ‘saved’ her but I am glad she’d had it. I have heard some people say their kids get a fluey thing from the actual spray but my daughter is 8 and has had it from age 2 and never had any ‘symptoms’ from it.

If this is true and not a wind up then I totally understand your worry and your worry about vaccinating so want to reach out that you are not alone despite feeling like it on threads like these where people smugly pile on about vaccinating. It is only natural to feel worried about a virus that is heavily reported on and hearing all the effects on hospitals etc. The chances are you will be fine if you are not immunocompromised etc but it can be worrying the fear of the unknown and since covid I think people kind of hype up the drama of it all. Try to just not look at all the hyped up stories designed to make people comment the way they are on this about being "ridiculous for not vaccinating" and "no sympathy" etc as if you are a literal murderer for not vaccinating your kids. Nobody in their right mind does something to put their children in jeopardy so I know you will feel genuine fear around the vaccine and it is ok to refuse something you have fear about.
Just want to say I understand your worries and the only other things you can do are make sure you are eating well, vitamins and good hygiene and try and remember most young fit healthy people do not suffer serious morbidity. The odds are on your side although it doesnt feel like it when you hear all the horror stories. Hope you are ok. It is horrible to see people with nasty sentiment because you have chosen a different option regarding medical treatments and please know not everybody feels this way xx

You probably need to elaborate on the logic behind watching your child go through sepsis and then “not being sure” about a vaccine that could help them avoid the same illness again…

”I’m terribly worried I’ll drown on this boat trip but I’m not wearing a life jacket” 😵‍💫

That’s a great analogy.
Why on earth have you not had them vaccinated?

Yeah it’s not just me.. I’m it against it all I just see lots and lots of people saying that they have been flu jabbed this year and it making no difference or they seem to be the ones that are getting it

You don’t know how science works.

Not vaccinated here and never get ill.
those that take every vaccine are the ones that seem to get ill, and then tell me it would have been worse if they’re not been vaccinated…. But I reckon they wouldn’t have got ill!

That is absolute nonsense.Me and my family have had every vaccine going ,since before and after covid. Very fortunate that none of us have had flu, and any covid has been very mild. I’m very thankful for these vaccines.
You can’t genuinely think people get flu because they’ve had the vaccine surely.

Sahara123 · 17/12/2025 14:34

Starrynight999 · 17/12/2025 08:45

Wow! I understand people think agree with the vaccination but wasn’t expecting so much hate for it, I take it all of you felt safe covid vaxing your kids? I’m not saying I’m against it, my daughter used to have it every year and one of them years had a very funny turn with it so wasn’t sure again and my youngest was off at the time it was given and have thought about getting it done since but wasn’t sure wasn’t saying I was completely against it ..

Yes, I was extremely grateful for the covid vaccine for my children and all my family .

Definitelynotme2022 · 17/12/2025 14:36

I am worried about flu. I'm asthmatic and had pneumonia just over a year ago, and my lungs are still recovering according to the asthma nurse I saw last week. I have had the flu jab, and my ds13 had the spray at school.

My boyfriend is currently really poorly! I think it's the flu, but he's testing for Covid too as he's lost his sense of taste and smell. I've never seen him so poorly, and he's the type to keep going regardless. And hates taking time off work, especially at this time of year (he's a postie).

TidyCyan · 17/12/2025 14:37

vanillalattes · 17/12/2025 08:18

If you were that concerned you’d get the flu jab.

Seconded, thirded, fourthed.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2025 14:43

Omg all of that and no flu jabs !!

PloddingAlong21 · 17/12/2025 17:09

Vaccinate them.

The argument of vaccine safety for flu Vs Covid isn’t comparable. They have tested flu vaccinations for a significant period before they rolled this programme out. Covid was rapid and testing periods weren’t the same and we haven’t had the data to se impact long term. Therefore you’ll have many people accepting of the safety of flu vaccination (rightly so) and watching and waiting on Covid.

However you’ve suffered the fall out of flu twice and sepsis. Surely the risk and damage of flu has been literally evident to you, that you’d try the vaccine this year?

The logic just isn’t there in order to not take it. Yes they may get sniffly when vaccinated but it beats full blown flu, which as you know, is far more dangerous.

Let them build up their OWN defences

Caughs, colds ... get over them

If you are anxious about it, won't you consider the flu vaccination???

😧 i'm terrified 🙄

Got flu vaccine in September and have had flu. Dread to think how unwell I would have suffered without vaccine. Took to my bed for two days to rest but nothing else dramatic expect this bloody annoying cough.

no idea why you wouldn’t take all precautions offered if concerned.

my DS was vaccinated after having it but there are some many varieties circulating worth covering him for all

venus7 · 17/12/2025 18:07

You are not only being unreasonable, you're being irresponsible.

JassyRadlett · 17/12/2025 18:08

It's a nasty strain this year - Australia had its worst flu season on record.

The vaccine this year is actually pretty effective in kids - it reduces hospitalisation by 70-75%. Only about half that effective in adults but if someone offers me a chance to cut my risk of hospitalisation by up to 40% with a prevalent disease, I'll take it.

No one can say the vax has made no difference as they may have been far sicker without it.

Honestly I despair of the attitudes of some people. It’s not hate it’s just frustration.

My household isn’t vaccinated either. We had the very first vaccine for covid and that’s it. We have had covid several times and not been that unwell. I am not worried about the flu. One of my dc had a bad reaction to the MMR that landed her in hospital so I am always wary about vaccinating her. She’s survived covid with minimum symptoms.
I know so many people who have been vaccinated for flu (my mother being one of them) and then they pick up every virus going including flu. I would rather not have the vaccine.

The vaccine doesn't cause you to get every virus going and the flu

Sleepy90 · 17/12/2025 18:13

After this year I'm going to get the flu jab every year.

I'm on my third week of flu A, ear infection, stomach bug and sinus infection. It's absolutely awful, cannot function at all.

MammarOfOne · 17/12/2025 18:16

My son (24) had it, very poorly for 2 weeks. Then my other son (22) caught it and is still suffering 2+ weeks on. My 2yo GD caught it and was really really ill and it’s just awful.
I caught it in Florida in September and thought I was going to die. Never been so ill, so when I caught it again from my GD it hit me far less and I only felt poorly for a few days. I am still wiped out and exhausted but the illness part has gone.

I hear you, I'm in week 4 of flu.. lost a stone in weight (which I can't afford to lose) and now on antibiotics for secondary sinus and chest infection!

CountryCob · 17/12/2025 18:20

We ended up in hospital with my daughter who tested positive for flu A. Our school vacs programme was delayed until very recently so were not vaccinated in time. We still took the vaccination when it was offered later

Lollipop81 · 17/12/2025 18:21

Seriously get the flu jab. I had this flu during the half term and I was so poorly. One of the illest I’ve ever been. Then my kids got it. It took me 3 weeks to fully recover. My children always have the flu spray but it wasn’t given until the end of November so it was no good for us as we were ill before that. I’ll be getting the flu jab every year from now on.
