So my kids in 2022 had flu A and my 2 year old got sepsis after being ignored by doctors s just a virus for a week after multiple trips, he recovered and he is ok.. skip to last year they then got flu A again a much milder strain but we’re still very poorly and now this year it’s everywhere again and seems to be an awful strain and I’m just dreading it.. before anyone says.. non of us are vaccinated we are to to date with all vaccinations and I’m really not an anti vaxer.. but I don’t know how I feel about the flu spray if I’m honest.. doesn’t look like they are working much.. I’m just also anxious about it.. how is everyone else feeling?

Yeah it’s not just me.. I’m it against it all I just see lots and lots of people saying that they have been flu jabbed this year and it making no difference or they seem to be the ones that are getting it

Even if you get flu after being vaccinated it will reduce the severity of it.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 17/12/2025 19:04

I’m worried about it. I’ve had Covid twice and flu twice. I’ll take Covid any day of the week … I’m spending Christmas in London. Behind a mask!

eyeofthundera · 17/12/2025 19:05

We had it. My little boy who is 5 had a horrendous cough for a week- like up in the middle of the night coughing for two hours straight, then woke early in the morning coughing. Had a high temperature for 4 days Then he had a sore throat for a week after and painful ears. Appetite awful for about 2 weeks . It’s the worse cough he’s ever had.

He was vaccinated and so was his sister. She just had a mild cough and snotty nose.

I had two weeks of reduced appetite, cough, tiredness and sore throat. Manageable, but rough whilst looking after a small child.

Wow! I understand people think agree with the vaccination but wasn’t expecting so much hate for it, I take it all of you felt safe covid vaxing your kids? I’m not saying I’m against it, my daughter used to have it every year and one of them years had a very funny turn with it so wasn’t sure again and my youngest was off at the time it was given and have thought about getting it done since but wasn’t sure wasn’t saying I was completely against it ..

I don't think it's hate. It's just logical. The vaccine is a good way of preventing yourself or your family getting sick. If you were THAT worried about getting sick then you would have taken the vaccine, as you haven't taken the vaccine you obviously aren't that worried about getting sick, so there's no need to post saying how worried you are.

Catandmousemam · 17/12/2025 19:10

Either get the vaccine injections, or suffer the consequence of getting flu - which if rife in schools, like most ailments. So the choice is yours, either suffer whatever strain of flu is about - OR ger vaccinated!!! 🙄

RavenhairedRachel · 17/12/2025 19:11

Why on earth hasn't the flu vaccine been offered for free. It would cost the N.H.S very little and would prevent the hospitals being overwhelmed.

ProcrastinatorsAnonymous · 17/12/2025 19:12

On one side of the scale: My 2 year old had flu and ended up with sepsis.
On the other side of the scale: My child was vaccinated every year, but had "a funny turn" one time.

So you weigh that and decide... NOT to vaccinate?

Make it make sense.

TiggyTomCat · 17/12/2025 19:13

You are much more likely to be very ill from the flu than you are from having the vaccine so you know what to do.

Gonners · 17/12/2025 19:14

Edited for TLDR reasons. Just do it or don't do it ... but if you don't, then please wear some sort of Anti-Vaxxer Badge of Pride so that people can give you a wide berth.

I had the flu in 2022 and it was so dreadful that I now pay for the jab for myself and husband also pays for it too. Our little one also always gets the flu vaccine spray. Since having the jabs I haven’t caught it again and our little one has never caught it (she didn’t even catch it when I had it and she was exposed!). If you want protection then obviously the only way to realistically do so is to get the vaccine! The worst you’ll have is a mild form but best is no one gets the flu.

MyQuirkyFinch · 17/12/2025 19:22

My kids get the flu vaccine at school. It’s free and I don’t have to organise it! I thought all primary school children were offered this?

I normally pay for a vaccine for myself but went to several places this year without any luck and had to give up in the end.

That said, still not concerned about it particularly. I’m not vulnerable in any way 🤷‍♀️

PerkySnail · 17/12/2025 19:22

Me, DH and son 20 have just had it. Other son, 19 was spared. Myself and DH had it really bad indeed. I have been on antibiotics as my throat and ears were very painful. My son who is 20 didn't get it too bad though. It's been 2 weeks now and my voice is still husky and throat is painful when I swallow but I have my energy and appetite back!

Wgw1 · 17/12/2025 19:22

I have had the jab but have been laid low since Saturday. Each day is a new symptom. Started off feeling lethargic, then a sore throat, then a hacking cough and runny nose. Loss of appetite (not strictly a bad thing for me) and today just feeling like sh.....

HillBetty · 17/12/2025 19:24

Yabu - to worry and not get vaccinated. This post of yours sums up your (flawed) thinking ... the ones getting jabbed are getting it. Fuck me .... there are no words.

94% uptake at our school for the flu spray.
It prevents severe symptoms hopefully.
And there will be a surge of flu in early January when people come back to school after Christmas gatherings and overseas flights.

The flu risk this year is significant and you know if you get flu, it's going to affect you very badly.

The flu vaccine has an unknown tiny risk so you decide not to get it, in case it gives you a bad reaction.

One of the reasons the flu is so bad this season is because not many people are getting vaccinated.

So you are contributing to the flu being bad. You are not protect yourself or your family and you are more likely to get it.

Don't come crying when you're really bad with flu. Vaccinate yourself and your family. At least if you catch flu then, you'll have it mildly.

Daughtersandbristolian · 17/12/2025 19:30

I am recovering from the super flu, I’m on day 16. I ensured both my children had their flu vaccine to protect the elderly / vulnerable as usual but then it came to light the little ones were getting very poorly so was even more relieved they had. I hadn’t had my vaccine ( my own fault as a busy working mum and neglected myself to my detriment) and it’s been awful so please make sure you are having it - it’s nasty it lingers and there are so many symptoms at once and if you do catch it stay in and don’t spread it.

catherinewales · 17/12/2025 19:34

My mum has been in hospital with influenza A she was really poorly. She hasn’t had her flu vaccine, we have because my husband has cancer so we’ll do all we can to protect him. She’s come out of hospital unable to look after herself in a terrible way. If your worried get the vaccine, if your not going to get it you need to protect yourself in other ways. Flu can kill you. If my mum had been left may longer she’d have died. She was blue lighted to hospital she was that poorly with it and she doesn’t really go anywhere but 2 days before she’d had a hospital appointment and then got sick.

JustMeAndTheFish · 17/12/2025 19:36

I’ve had flu twice and wild horses couldn’t stop me from having the vaccine now. I really don’t understand why you wouldn’t protect your children?

Not vaccinated here and never get ill.
those that take every vaccine are the ones that seem to get ill, and then tell me it would have been worse if they’re not been vaccinated…. But I reckon they wouldn’t have got ill!

Where did you get your degree Dr Pepper?

I've been through all your posts & the chief thing I notice is that you seem to find it difficult to write a clear sentence in English & do not understand how vaccinations work.

Quite shocking misinformation. The people who have been jabbed and had flu have no idea whether they would have been worse off having not had it. And they are certainly not MORE likely to get flu. There may be a correlation that people who work with the public are more likely to get the jab to protect themselves, and are also more likely to catch flu due to their interaction with others.
