Listed something for sale. Get a message saying it is available and what are dimensions. No hello? No please? Such basics.
Edited to add: the dimensions are already in the for sale advert.

Its called manners. You say please and thank you to whoever you speak to. Doesnt matter if its asking about something for sale.

I agree with you OP.

FestiveBauble · 16/12/2025 20:05

It is so rude!

I have been hunting for things on marketplace, messaging super politely - one chap just replied with “no” 😂

If i wanted to flog something im not bothered about small talk with a stranger, no.
but i am rude like that.

Karistyleaftea · 16/12/2025 20:13

I agree with you OP.
I notice this whenever I am shopping , people walk straight at you and glare at you if you don't jump to the side, the push in front of you when you are at the fridges etc and the expressions on them if they are behind you at the till for more than a second, So much suppressed rage in people currently, it is palpable.
I did have a lovely chat with a delightful young man working at M and S this morning though and he had been on duty since 4am.
Good lad!

TeenLifeMum · 16/12/2025 20:14

Aren’t those question ones that come up as suggestions so you just press it rather than write it out? There are no manners on selling sites though - they bring out all the arseholes

You sound like you have the social skills of a fingernail. Human beings thrive on connection. Niceties enable connection.

Do you expect a shop cashier to say please when they say how much your shopping has come to?

There was a thread on here about exactly that. OP wanted to complain to the shop manager. Was it you? 😆

SeaAndStars · 16/12/2025 20:47

I remember a time when shop assistants would say please when they asked for your money. I can't think exactly when it stopped but I always listen out in hope. It's lovely when someone is polite.

I didn't see that thread but honestly why shouldn't the cashiers say please and thankyou?
The shop staff can hardly complain about customers bring rude to them if they don't even have basic manners themselves.

Its's funny that you and @Bodypumpmum
both seem to have the attitude manners and for wimps.

Good manners help oil the wheels of social interaction to make them turn smoothly for everyone. They make life pleasanter and easier for everyone.

If not then, finally went a long way to making the final blow. I'd argue that reduced contact by phone or in person once broadband then smartphones came along probably was the start of the road.

Agreeing with those who value politeness.

I have literally just said about cashiers not saying please and you have assumed I have awful manners.

I say please and thank you when appropriate. I also say sorry far too much, like I am apologising for my own existence.

A cashier not saying please when they say how much your shopping is, is not being rude. How would they even say it? "Please can you give me £23.50 for your items?" They are not asking for the money... they are stating how much it is and are waiting for you to pay. I have never heard a cashier say please and I am pretty certain if it was a thing then it would be part of their customer service training, and you would hear it all the time.

XenoBitch · 16/12/2025 20:57

We used to get rid of stuff on Freecycle, and basic manners were a way to whittle down the responses you would get.

SeaAndStars · 16/12/2025 20:58

@XenoBitch "How would they even say it?"

That'll be £23.50 please.

Don’t reply to them unless they have basic manners

TheonlywayIcoulddothatwasifyouwantedmetoo · 16/12/2025 21:04

Agree OP. A woman almost took me out going too fast around a corner with her trolley in the supermarket earlier and didn’t even apologise, just gave me a dirty look and carried on. I’m afraid I burst out laughing, my breath was taken away by her attitude.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/12/2025 21:06

The venn diagram of cheeky fuckers and rude people is a circle.

Manners and the ability to construct sentences is an excellent way to filter out time-wasters.

Manners cost nothing.
