Group of boomer men

I am sitting in Wetherspoons with my husband on a large empty table. There are plenty of empty tables available.

A group of 4 boomer aged men have come and sat on our table and are chatting away. It started with 1 lone boomer man joining our table and sitting in silence with his pint, until his friends joined us and now they’re chatting away with their drinks

There are plenty of empty tables that could easily accommodate them.

Why did they join our table? We are complete strangers.

What’s it got to do with being a ‘Boomer?’

Abracadabrador · 15/12/2025 17:08

Ask them?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 15/12/2025 17:08

Why is their age relevant - surely it would be just as annoying if they were millennials/Gen Xers?

TheShed7 · 15/12/2025 17:08

How large is the table? Does it have a reserved sign on it? Is it relevant that they're boomers? What's the sight you fear the most? Would you rather eat a piece of toast?

BitOfAWeirdo · 15/12/2025 17:09

Is it 'their' usual table?

MrsMitford3 · 15/12/2025 17:09

What a goady post.
Those horrible boomer men sitting near you!!
Whatever next??

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 15/12/2025 17:10

It’s probably their regular table! Old habits die hard

Fionasapples · 15/12/2025 17:10

Why did you choose a large table if there are only you and your husband?

saveforthat · 15/12/2025 17:11

How large is the table? If you didn't want anyone to join you, why didn't you pick a table for two?

saveforthat · 15/12/2025 17:12

Snap.

I’m wondering if they have diff expectations?

It was a statement of fact.

I think it's unreasonable that they sat at your table when there were other tables available, but I really don't see what being a boomer has to do with it! People are all to ready these days to slag off boomers.

FOJN · 15/12/2025 17:13

Nothing good will come if this thread. No one will address the weirdness of 4 men joining your table because you've described them as boomers.

You could ask them why they have decided to join your table or you could move to another of the empty tables. I wonder if they meet regularly and you've "stolen" their table.

My top tip is to never take a table larger than you need so there isn't space for strangers to sit down.

Why did you choose a large table if there are only you and your husband?

Because the pub is empty and this table is out of the way and it suits us.

In our local Wethers people have "their tables" and sit there or glare until people move.

Could have just said "older men".

Coffeeandbooks88 · 15/12/2025 17:14

Next time just go for the table that seats whatever number you are.

hufngids · 15/12/2025 17:15

Your ageism is deeply unpleasant.

Ablondiebutagoody · 15/12/2025 17:17

Dammit. I thought you wanted a collective noun for a group of boomer men.

Great minds eh? 😁

Because the pub is empty and this table is out of the way and it suits us.

Just move if it bothers you so much.

WallaceinAnderland · 15/12/2025 17:18

Possible reasons:

It's probably the table they always sit at.

You've said it is a large table so there are seats available and they're not encroaching on you.

You haven't objected to them joining 'your' table.

Obviously not that much out of the way as your new friends found you.
