Fed up of hearing about all.the drinking posts on here.

Let's hear if for the people who dont drink or dont drink much and dont want to be pissed up all the time or live with drunks and all the hell that brings.

Myself and Mr NC Nelly.

Drink alcohol rarely.
Like Tea, coffee, latte, cappuccino, soft drinks and orange juice.

Orange juice/lemonade
Lime and Lemon.😁

Never needed alcohol to enjoy ourselves.

I've slowly stopped being interested in alcohol. I like the taste of a nice wine, a pint of decent quality beer or an interesting cocktail but I don't drink for the buzz and I never feel like I "need" a drink at the end of a hard day or that I've "earned" a drink, hate the "wine o'clock" comments etc.

I don't particularly like sweet, soft drinks so I drink tea mostly but I like the more grown up taste of wine, beer etc so I will have one or two from time to time if I'm not driving or looking after the kids.

Sadcafe · 15/12/2025 21:16

Can’t pretend DW and myself don’t drink, but threeDDs , one drinks very occasionally, other two not at all

Yuja · 15/12/2025 21:17

I don’t drink - I’m 40 and never have. My dad was an alcoholic and it ruined my childhood so it’s not part of my life at all. In fact the smell of it makes me heave! DH drinks now and again if he’s out with friends but rarely at home

DelinquentSnails · 15/12/2025 21:19

DH and I drink very little now. Maybe a glass of wine with Saturday dinner. Our older teen girls (16.17,19) don’t drink at all.
DM gave up following BC treatment, DF gave up because DM did. Several friends have also given up for health reasons, and a can’t remember the last time we met socially and people got drunk, even if they drank a bit. Our friends are scattered about and so there are usually several non-drinkers at social events as they are driving. Other friends do not drink for religious reasons.

DD17 went out to a party with a few (perfectly nice) boys this weekend. A couple of boys got quite drunk on something they found in a parents’ booze cabinet and she described it as ‘kind of nineties retro’ which sounds about right 😆

It’s a complete non issue to me. I just can’t see why people would get wound up about it.

IAmNotSureAboutYouNow · 15/12/2025 21:20

DH and I don’t drink much at all

D SIL completely alcohol free - she’s fabulous and doesn’t need alcohol to shine

Main friends are people I know through sports groups, some drink, some don’t, but our fun trips / outings aren’t dependent on alcohol and we have so much fun

TBH the people I know who drink a lot are mostly pretty dull

StudentDays · 15/12/2025 21:25

Me 45. I'd drink a good quality glass of red wine in the middle of a holiday, or a glass of prosecco at a special occasion (if not driving).

This entire year I've had 2 alcoholic drinks. I'm happy to be around people drinking (though depends what the event is) and I have more fun being sober than being drunk - one thing I've noticed is how much more I remember about the night!

Dare I say it, touch wood, I think my skin is better for it, hasn't really changed too much and I'm now 45.

I love non drinkers!

MirrorMirror1247 · 15/12/2025 21:27

My OH. He doesn't drink because of medication he's on. If he drinks, he's sick. He doesn't miss it though. I do drink, but only socially. I've never really been one for drinking at home.

JaceLancs · 15/12/2025 21:30

DS 32 has never been bothered about drinking alcohol
DD 34 enjoys an occasional one but not at the moment as she’s pregnant
DP will share a bottle of sake with me twice a month
I am making up for all 3 of them

So many of these non-alcoholic products are being listed in ‘Best Christmas Drinks’ articles in the papers right now. I’ve been slow to catch up with them - but I can certainly have as good a time at a cocktail bar drinking non-alcoholic cocktails as with the other kind - I don’t see why it should be an issue for anyone.

I become an utter twat when I drink! So I don’t, haven’t in years.

Run30 · 15/12/2025 21:38

I don’t drink.
I love sparkling water with ice and lemon and I REALLY love sleeping well, feeling great, being slim, not worrying about my health…

Gentlydoesit2 · 15/12/2025 21:58

I drink water. Shit loads of it. The occasional caffeine free pepsi max 🤣

Chinsupmeloves · 15/12/2025 22:05

I like a drink or many!

My Mum decided she didn't like alcohol from an early age when she experienced a hangover from being given doubles when all she wanted was a baby sham.

She's the most lovely, funny and happy person who endures sitting amongst drunk people and I raise my hat to her!

She truthfully says how people become stupid, incoherent, feels the need to make sure they don't die from being sick after being sober all night.

It would ne so nice to be like this rather than relying on alcohol to enjoy yourself because you become less inhibited. Xx

Bayroot1 · 15/12/2025 22:07

I have some of the best nights with my non drinking friends. Good conversation. I like a few drinks but a lot less than I used to. I feel the effects much quicker now. I'd rather have decent food and a good chat.

PollyBell · 15/12/2025 22:12

The most I have is 2 drinks, there is nothing more boring then people who drink to much and become very narcissist and think it is hilarious to throw up and fall all over the place and do that laughing crying dramatic emotional thing so no as I have aged I realised more and more how much people who drink over and beyond are ''it''s all about me"

I will happily go out with people who drink some alcohol like me but seriously know what is appropriate and no I won't go out with anyone who can't go to event without drinking and no I dont care if people think this is boring, so the people around me know how to behave

Aplycrumbly · 15/12/2025 22:17

I don’t drink for years at a time. Had one glass of sparkling white wine while traveling in Spain recently and that was the first drop of alcohol I’d had all year. I’m just not fussed about alcohol. Last time I got drunk was 2 decades as a teen. Don’t smoke weed or do any illegal drugs either. I could quite happily never consume alcohol again and I wouldn’t miss it.

I look at people a bit strangely if they ask why I don’t drink and sometimes flip the question back on them and ask why they do drink. When I was younger I was very extroverted and it would come to some as a surprise that I was in fact just animated and energetic and not drunk lol.

Thankfully it’s not unusual in my very international/multi-cultural social circle not to drink and the ones who do aren’t really into binge drinking.

I like all kinds of teas ,coffee, sparkling water and kombucha. Also occasionally fruit juice but trying to limit my sugar so don’t have too much of it too often.

Caterpillar1 · 15/12/2025 22:18

I rarely drink - only sometimes warm wine in winter or cold beer in summer. Or in social situations when it is expected, but even then I would only have 1 drink. My DH doesn't drink at all. My father died of liver cirrhosis after 25+ years of relentless drinking. We still have our bottles from the last year's school bottle tombola!

jbm16 · 15/12/2025 22:20

I don't drink, gave up 20 years ago and don't miss it can still have good time without it.

My nephew is 21 and semi-pro footballer and has never drunk, and still goes out with his friends, and my daughter is an elite athlete and has no intrest either.

GentleSheep · 15/12/2025 22:21

Haven't had alcohol for around 5 years now. It's certainly not needed in order to have a good time.

Yes I really love mother root actually. Has a bit of a kick to it like an alcoholic drink. I really like it.

Blueuggboots · 15/12/2025 22:33

I don’t mind a small glass of port with cheese and occasionally a single glass of wine or beer.
but I’m very happy to drive and drink soft drinks. I can’t think of anything worse than standing in a pub throwing alcohol down my neck and having a hangover, it’s so boring and after 25 years in healthcare watching people commit over themselves, Injure themselves and others during to alcohol…..nope.

Sendhelp101 · 15/12/2025 22:38

I just don't enjoy the taste of alcohol so very rarely drink. Only time I do is a sip for a toast/celebration. I tend not to go to events where I know people are going just to get drunk but I don't mind if it's a chilled one or a meal and people around me are having a few. I love milkshakes, occasional smoothie and regularly drink squash flavoured water plain water and a few cups of tea/coffee each day.

Crispynoodle · 15/12/2025 22:39

Me! Except a very occasional babycham!

Whatacrapdaytodaywashey · 15/12/2025 22:44

Have barely drank since age 42 when it made me ill and no fun anymore
Dh barely drinks now, but has an occasional joint with friends
We were both clubbers in the 90’s & 2000’s and took everything going, now I just drink a good coffee a day and cold Vimto 😬

Hollyhobbi · 15/12/2025 23:08

Well I was never a wine o clock drinker but I only drink one alcoholic drink at Easter, Christmas and Paddy's day as I'm on Warfarin. And I don't miss it at all.
