Aibu for being annoyed they are charging the whole day but we have to collect before 12?

Do you pay termly or monthly?

Not sure why that matters ? I have child enrolled all year

I think you’re a bit mean to be honest!
Nursery likely struggle for staff, therefore struggle to give out annual leave. Half a day on Christmas Eve is barely anything.

Offer one of the workers money to babysit until you get home?

Think op

it matters

if termly, then it’s a set fee
if monthly it may be adjusted according to the hours

Atorwave · 13/12/2025 15:40

You like the nursery? Like the workers? Your child happy there?

bloody hell I would be happy they were given a half day on the 24th

Why is you being in Spain relevant?
Were you going to pick up your child on the way home from the airport or something?!

Don’t be so tight….nursery staff earn fuck all….shit work place benefits….let them have the afternoon off and stop being so miserable about it

Squishedpassenger · 13/12/2025 15:42

I think that the point is that the nursery are charging everyone, regardless of their presence, for a full day on Xmas Eve. That is of course normal for nurseries to charge whether you are there or not. However, they aren't able to be there that afternoon because it is shut, but they are still charging for that session.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/12/2025 15:44

I'd be irritated if it wasn't in the contract. Christmas Eve isn't a bank holiday.

Atorwave · 13/12/2025 15:44

Will your child be in Spain with you?!

vanillalattes · 13/12/2025 15:45

YANBU - if they choose to close early, they shouldn't be charging.

No he will be with his father who has taken 3 weeks of leave

They can have the afternoon off, but they shouldn't be charging parents for it.

It's all year round, if it was term only than wouldn't be charged

Its pretty normal.

PrincessOfPreschool · 13/12/2025 15:50

I don't think they should charge if they're not open. But I guess it depends if they set out hours, holidays etc in the contract. If half day on Christmas eve is specified then that's fine. I fully expect that the staff are only being paid a half day!! You should ask the workers if they're getting paid a day's wage. Everywhere I've worked you're paid hourly.

HillBetty · 13/12/2025 15:50

Yabu. Our nursery closed early xmas eve and re opened after new year. Never once did I complain about £ or early closing on xmas eve

Freshstartyear25 · 13/12/2025 15:52

YANBU, the 24th is not a bank holiday so if they’re choosing to close early to give their staffs some benefits, it should be at their expense, not at the parent’s expense.
I’m still expected to work on the 24th so I need the childcare I’m paying for. If they can’t provide this then I’ll need to pay a nanny for this so I’ll be out of pocket twice.
We pay for bank holidays and they’re closed and that’s fine with me, I just don’t see why we should pay when they’re shut for no reason.

Poms · 13/12/2025 15:53

Why do you even need the nursery for half a day if your dc’s dad is on leave.

Good for you - but it's cheeky fuckery to charge parents for hours that they're unable to use as the nursery has chosen to shut.

Moveoverdarlin · 13/12/2025 15:53

This wouldn’t bother me. It’s hard hard work for shit pay. Saying that, my children have never gone to nursery on Christmas Eve. I’d take them out regardless if I had already paid for it. It’s Christmas Eve!
