To wonder if the Doctors strike will still go ahead next week?

Does anyone know when it will be decided if the strike will be called off because of the flu next week?

What do you think about it?

Well, how are the parents of these so-called doctors not feeling utterly ashamed to see the faces of their children striking? I would be. Disgraceful tbh and if I were Streeting I would take their practising licences away for this. Being a doctor is NOT a job, it is a vocation. A good doctor would NEVER hold his patients to ransom like this. I think the types of resident doctors doing this show actually how unsuited they are to the role, lacking care and empathy for the people they are supposed to serve. There, I’ve said my bit!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Oh yes, vocation pays the rent. Serve ??? Are they in servitude now too ?

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 15:21

@Milmington I am involved in admissions to medicine and have been for over a decade, working closely with admissions staff. So no, not a doctor, but I know what the Unis think is important. And so I agree with their choices, not some alleged consultants who seem to hate doctors 🤷‍♀️

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 15:23

PS hospitals are currently better staffed than on non strike days. No patient is being 'let down'.

Yes, they have a duty to serve the public. Like DH, who served as a soldier in the military, these folk cannot strike because they don’t quite like the conditions of their work. It is a privilege to be a serving member of our community. I don’t buy that they cant pay their rent. I would imagine their rental dwelling might be basic for a bit, but that is just how it is, and how it was for all of us starting out. Let’s not pretend that they are struggling on their wages!

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 16:04

You believe the hype if you want. How much unemployment did your v lovely DH face in the army ? Because lots of doctors are currently without a job. How much were his annual fees (GMC, insurance, exam fees of £500+ each etc). When he was moved did the army help find him accommodation ?

If doctors got help with any of this there wouldn't be an issue. £18 an hour on Xmas day to save your life ? All they are asking for is £22. Weirdly the army pay 50% more to their doctors and help them repay their loans.

If you want them to 'serve' whilst repaying £250,000 of student loans then you need to ensure that have a job.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 16:26

But let's pay an art therapist more than a registrar. Don't lie that money isn't there.

To wonder if the Doctors strike will still go ahead next week?

Milmington · 21/12/2025 14:50

But since neither of you are doctors, what do you think qualifies you to judge what is important and what isn't more than those with a medical career who are posting on this thread, with years of experience behind them?

Wide sweeping statement right there. You have no idea of my profession. If you believe some of the posts on here you need to do more research. Some posters have an agenda on these threads.

HostaCentral · 21/12/2025 16:40

I thought they get 1.5/2 times plus day off in lieu for Xmas day. Unsocial hours and bank holiday.

With respect, I don’t think the sacrifices being made by doctors can be compared to those who’ve laid their lives on the line for people, like you and me. With that argument no hourly rate can ever be enough! Shame you have to make such a comparison.
Quite simply, for 4 more pounds an hour you think it’s justified to put other very vulnerable peoples lives at risk, this is self-serving at its lowest it is blackmailing.

Well it seems that what 'unis' think is important isn't what actually turns out great doctors doesn't it, because there hasn't been a single senior doctor on here who agrees with you.
Who are you accusing of lying over money to pay inflated wages?
And I have lost count of the times you have been told that all graduates have student loans, doctors are not unique, except in that they earn a great deal more than other new graduates. Only their mothers think they are special and unique.
The fact that hospitals are better staffed when the juniors are on strike is not the 'gotcha ' that you think. Why on earth do you think that other doctors who are too professional to strike should keep doing the juniors work as well as their own?
And that art therapist is presumably at the top of their pay scale. If the neurosurgeon can get a consultants job, but if course not all of them will, they will earn far more than the art therapist. But why let facts get in the way of your favourite narrative.
I thought that as 'Wes' was listening the juniors would have had all their demands met by now? Perhaps he was listening but had no intention of doing anything about it.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:28

@HostaCentral nope. They get basic pay on every bank holiday. Everyone else in the NHS gets enhanced pay but not doctors.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:28

@simplesimoneatspie I didn't make the comparison. You did

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:30

@Scotiasdarling there's have been 3 allegedly senior doctors on here who disagree. And a whole world of other ones who are involved in admissions who I do agree with. And the senior doctors on here don't even seem to like their redirects sadly.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:35

Doctors are unemployed. They are still paid 21% less than they were 10 years ago. It has now cost the NHS more money to fund the strikes than it would have to have sorted pay restoration over the next 7 years. Wes has magically strengthened the BMAs support by degrading doctors calling them juvenile delinquents - I'm sure the 32 year old ST8s love being called juvenile).

who cares if anyone is top of their pay scale. People should be paid for the job they do today, not get less because they might one day get more. Bonkers idea. But hey, let's pay an art consultant more than a brain surgeon 🥸

I think you'll find they work at least 20% less than they did 10 years ago and are consequently less well trained.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:44

@Scotiasdarling that is your opinion. And not one held by the thousands of students coming from abroad every year to train here. Doctors are trained by consultants so whose fault is it if this was true ? The consultants paid to train them, maybe they should leave if so useless.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:46

@Scotiasdarlingand hours don't matter as its basic pay that is less. Doctors used to get lots more money as did more ( v unsafe) hours. It's basic pay that is less.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 17:49

@HostaCentralcleaners paid more n bank holidays

It isn't the quality of the training that has changed, plainly it's the quantity. Do you know the difference?

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2025 18:02

@Scotiasdarling yes & it really isn't necessary to be rude. Quantity does not equal quality, as Adam Kay's books highlighted v v clearly. Surely we should be improving education and if not then consultants should be making steps to ensure they do.

Marchesman · 21/12/2025 18:08

Regarding Dr(?) Purple, by any sensible measure their comments ought to confirm that they are not a doctor. But these days I am less sure, I wouldn't bet on an MBBS from The University of Chester being out of reach. So all we have to go on are previous claims of authority based on having a child who is a junior doctor (so no bias there).

Regarding attempts to favourably compare junior doctors with armed forces personnel, the reason doctors don't have jobs is because we train too many of them. The reason we do that is because new universities profit from it financially and (improbably) in standing, academics get to burnish their DEI credentials, an examination and tutoring industry makes a great deal of money from it, and secondary school teachers have opportunities to develop spurious ideas of self worth. Not forgetting the pecuniary realities - an F1 earns £43000, a private in the army £26000 and a 2nd Lieutenant: £41,000 - and the small matter of not being shot at in the NHS. Who wouldn't take a punt at medicine?

After two decades of DEI, the proportion of entrants to medicine from the lowest socioeconomic group has only increased from a paltry 2.5% to 5%. Furthermore, they disproportionately fail to complete their undergraduate courses, or as graduates, disproportionately fail postgraduate examinations. It seems that the only people to have benefitted from this nonsense are "educators", their hangers on, and middle class children of indifferent ability.

It's very clear that you're not in the medical profession. That's why I asked my question.

Don't American brain surgeon's often get paid in the millions?
