Sky News segment on visa overstayers tonight

icannotbelievethis · 11/12/2025 22:29

One woman who came here on a 3 month visitor visa 12 years ago, who is a “full time carer” for her sister.

One man who came here on a student visa which was then cancelled because he stopped attending his lectures, who has been here illegally for two years and works cash in hand. Therefore not paying tax or national insurance.

Wtf?! Why did Sky News interview them (and no doubt pay them!) and not turn up with the border force to get them sent home?! This is baffling

Wholeheartedly, people are people it does not matter where they come from or their culture. Our country has benefitted hugely over the years from other peoples cultures. Geographical location of birth shouldn’t be a deciding factor on whether someone is welcome in this country or not.

All cultures are not equal. I'd rather have people more closer to our way of life and come from similar cultural backgrounds.

Well that says it all really. I have many wonderful friends who come from very different cultures to mine (including shock horror Muslim!) and I feel very lucky that thats the case. Humanity in all of its guises is beautiful, our country benefits immensely from our diversity.

Igotjelly · 15/12/2025 10:57

Are you saying white cultures are superior (given you think all cultures are not equal?) 😵‍💫

Nothing about white. Just western civilization.

How about we keep the west in the west and the east in the east and all that.

All cultures are not equal? Who is less equal? Who is more equal?

My friend works for a university and says loads of overseas students come here 'to study' then just disappear. She says they just stop attending lectures, presumably because they either 1) don't like it and return home or 2) they use it as a route into the country in order to live here illegally.

I also work for a university and we have to keep records of attendance for overseas students. If they are no longer attending we have to tell the Home Office. It's not our fault if the HO doesn't chase that up, the system is there.

Would you prefer the culture of the United Kingdom or Afghanistan?

What is the “culture of the UK” exactly by your definition? Surely if a person of Afghan heritage lives in (and may well have been born in the UK) then their “culture” is that of the UK, I.e their home.

I prefer a diverse culture with the best bits of everywhere. But as I said before I don’t think someone’s value as a person comes from the geographical location of their birth or their culture. Everyone I’ve ever personally met from an Afghan background as been lovely, not so sure about you, and I don’t even know where you were born or your culture, your morals and empathy on the other hand appear to be significantly lacking.

Do you not think the "bad bits" also come over?

Bad bits are not isolated to any particular culture, they are people based. Yes there are bad people but there are bad people everywhere and again not related to where you were born. I am a firm believer that there are more good bits, good people and goodness in the world and in every culture than bad.

But western culture is vastly superior and has more good bits. Why do people flock to the west? Why is the west the first world?

If Britain becomes multicultural what makes Britain unique then? If everywhere becomes multicultural then makes makes each country different to each other?

Vastly superior 😂 at least admit you’re views are pure xenophobia!

It's just the truth. Western culture is the best. Even so, a nation has the right to keep it's culture and values

DuncesAreThere · 15/12/2025 22:23

The culture we have in Europe is better than what's in Afghanistan, Somalia and Sudan for example.

Which bit is vastly superior? What do you know about other cultures? Where have you lived? What have you experienced?

Have you ever lived anywhere but the town you grew up in? Do you have any friends or any personal relationships with anyone not white British?

Let’s make sure everyone stays exactly where they were born forever, right? Including the Brits who descend on my home country every summer, get paralytic, act like absolute idiots and leave the place looking like a complete dump.
Or you think you’re somehow special and other countries can’t wait to welcome you?

Hey give your head a wobble Yes they may be a nuiscance and act like idiots in your country when on holiday. But lets face it. They spend lots of money on YOUR COUNTRY and make jobs for YOUR PEOPLE.
THEN THEY GO HOME.

DO YOU GET IT?

Tell that to the Spanish.

No one should overstay their visas conditions.

But for those coming here to work, I'd prioritise access to those from America, Canada, Australia, new Zealand and parts of the EU.

Why? Are you suggesting there’s no skilled workers in non white countries?

Probably are. But rather we take skilled workers from countries more culturally similar to us.

I have lived in the USA and in Pakistan.

I knew more Pakistanis whose culture and values were close to my (white British) ones than I did Americans.

icannotbelievethis · 12/12/2025 06:33

Not obliged, no. But surely they could have just done it? These are people here illegally.

Your question should be why aren't the authorities doing their job rather than asking journalists to do their job for them.

I would never step foot in Pakistan. I'd rather spend time in India.
