NC’d for this

A couple. 2 dc (no childcare)
A brand new, new build house. Mortgaged.
Two brand new cars.
They don’t dress designer but the present well.
She has a few designer handbags.
gadgets are always good brands, latest I phones, shark hairdryers, robot hoover.
very organised and tidy home, both work full time in good jobs.
They do family outings every few weekends but not every weekend.
Honesty, what are your first thoughts?!

My only thought would be "wonder what they do for a living".

Plenty of families are exactly as you describe, and on top of everything take the kids to Disney, go skiing and have a proper beach holiday every year. I think nothing, just curious what job they actually do.

In all honesty, I also think good of the mum to still have a life, a job and look good, when having kids, so no excuse for not making an effort myself 😂

At this precise moment @gemful I’d want to know if the Shark hairdryer is worth the money

🤣🤣 yes!! We love it so much! I hate Dyson tbh, had one of their hoovers years ago…it was shit. The hairdryer had very hit and miss reviews also.

I dont understand the question ? What are you saying . ???

ConcernedOfClapham · 09/12/2025 13:15

No thoughts. No idea why you’re asking, either 🤷‍♂️

Dollymylove · 09/12/2025 13:15

I would say that you have worked hard, sorted out your priorities, got on the housing ladder, earn a decent salary.
All things that a lot of people despise because they didnt do the sam😬

LemonDrizzleKay · 09/12/2025 13:15

62K isn't that much.

Bananaandmangosmoothie · 09/12/2025 13:15

I wouldn’t think anything of it! But if pressed for a comment: they seem to be getting on well?

Mrsblobby88 · 09/12/2025 13:16

Couldn’t care less

TwoTuesday · 09/12/2025 13:17

I wouldn't notice all that, probably. If I did, I'd probably think they were quite materialistic and maybe not my type, but I wouldn't be catty about it.

AgnesX · 09/12/2025 13:18

Two working young professionals. Sounds like neice and her partner.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 09/12/2025 13:20

YaWeeFurryBastard · 09/12/2025 12:59

My first thought would be that it’s sad both have to work full time with kids.

Seriously? Adults work. They have flexi time.

It's about modelling an expectation for your children.

Why would they pay 'over the odds' for their house? They will have paid exactly what the property is worth or they wouldn't have got a mortgage. Do you think similarly nasty thoughts about old houses such as 'I wonder how much damage to the environment that's causing with it's terrible EPC rating'?

New-builds near us tend to be overpriced because they are all shiny and very well-marketed and there's a housing shortage and a medical school so we have lots of young professionals with money to buy a house but limited houses for them to have. Then when the houses are sold on in 3-4 years they have often depreciated. And yes, I would think similar about buying an old house - they can be a real moneypit (I live in one). It's not meant to be mean-spirited, but my first instinct would be to hope they aren't having problems, rather than spit with jealousy and assume they're up to their necks in debt (which seems to be the approach of many on this thread!).

Greenfinch7 · 09/12/2025 13:20

I would wonder why I know about the financing of their house and the make of their handbags?? Are they my close relatives or old family friends?

TallulahBetty · 09/12/2025 13:21

(Due to my job) wondering how much of it is 'on the tick'

OK, fair enough. I apologise if I misunderstood your comments.

Waitingfordoggo · 09/12/2025 13:22

I don’t have any thoughts at all about this scenario. 🤷🏼‍♀️ They sound entirely unremarkable. I don’t like new build houses or designer bags but their lives are none of my business.

Waitingfordoggo · 09/12/2025 13:24

Ah, have seen the further posts. Sorry I should have rtft before writing a pointless comment. 😂

FilterBubble · 09/12/2025 13:25

You've been watching someone blow dry their hair through binoculars?

peachesarenom · 09/12/2025 13:25

I'm thinking 'I wish I had a organized and tidy house!'

BlackberrySky · 09/12/2025 13:26

I'd think they have different priorities to me because I think Iphones and designer handbags are a waste of money, but other than that not much else. Whether or not your lifestyle is remarkable probably depends where you live and who you associate with. If you're the wealthiest in your family or social circle, people are more likely to comment on it.

I always think you never know what's going on financially behind the scenes. Two people can have outwardly similar lifestyles but one could be comfortably affording it and the other in massive debt.

This seems entirely normal unless you're going to drip feed that it's actually Fred and Rose West

isnt fred west dead lol

Superfoodcrisps · 09/12/2025 13:28

Middle class family. Most likely household income in the £100-£150K/year range
but could easily be outside of that range.
Could be any range of financial circumstances from credit card debt and opting out of pensions to no mortgage and significant pension and investment wealth.

Penisbeakeralltheclassics · 09/12/2025 13:30

I would hope they have a pension… but that’s my job 😁

Conniebygaslight · 09/12/2025 13:30

I don't understand your question OP...thoughts on what?
