A brand new, new build house. Mortgaged.
Two brand new cars.
They don’t dress designer but the present well.
She has a few designer handbags.
gadgets are always good brands, latest I phones, shark hairdryers, robot hoover.
very organised and tidy home, both work full time in good jobs.
They do family outings every few weekends but not every weekend.

Humble brag 🙄

The neighbour said “new car!? Is one new car not enough?” I laughed (nervously) and said “ah well I can’t let him have all the fun!” She then said…it’s a bit overkill no?…or did you win the lotto?head tilt…

Really bloody rude of them.

Wow! Cheeky cow. We once went into a dealership and ordered 2 brand new cars in a day!

what the feck would she think of that??

SleeplessInWherever · 09/12/2025 14:28

What car is it?

It would make my day if your neighbour is bitter because you’ve got a new Fiat 500.

Yeah I was a bit stunned. It’s a Toyota Corolla cross.

I’d think you were very lucky but also would think maybe you should think about helping others less fortunate, but maybe you already do. None of my business. The designers handbags would not impress me at all as I struggle to see the difference. If you were my neighbour I would treat you just the same as everyone else and not comment as long as you were a nice neighbour which in the face of it sounds like you are. Just carry on living your life and don’t worry

ItsameLuigi · 09/12/2025 14:45

They sound very very boring.

JandLandG · 09/12/2025 14:48

New build house...nah.

Brand new cars...nah.

Have they ever read any books?

Arte they non-complaint in any way?

TennisLady · 09/12/2025 14:48

Sounds like all the houses on my estate to be honest, so quite normal. Just ignore the one jealous, nosey neighbour.

ilovelamp82 · 09/12/2025 14:48

No thoughts. I don't pay attention to other people's lives like that.

Maddy70 · 09/12/2025 14:50

Don't think anything tbh

Seeingadistance · 09/12/2025 14:51

No thoughts at all.

justpassmethemouse · 09/12/2025 14:53

My honest first thoughts are that I jump onto Mumsnet to distract from my COL worries but I keep finding threads about wealthy people 🤣

Goldwren1923 · 09/12/2025 15:00

No thoughts?

Well maybe I will be jealous that their house is always tidy and organised 😂

ChocolateCinderToffee · 09/12/2025 15:03

Mind my own business!

Goldwren1923 · 09/12/2025 15:03

reading your replies I'm amazed you manage this all on 60 and 70K. Did you buy your house long time ago or were gifted money for a deposit?
just goes to show that cost of property to family budget is the single factor determining how well off they will feel

Flinderskleepers · 09/12/2025 15:07

beefthief · 09/12/2025 11:46

This seems entirely normal unless you're going to drip feed that it's actually Fred and Rose West

Ha ha, that made me chuckle

We bought our first house about 13 years ago and we made a good enough profit on that. We used 120k as a deposit between savings and the money made. We kept savings back also. We traded in our older cars when buying the new ones. I spent 25k on mine cash wise.

Now that I have read all your posts, gemful, I think people you mix with, including some of your family, are envious that you are earning well.

Good luck to you! You work hard, you deserve to enjoy it and I am sure you are not mean or ostentatious.

Pay no attention.

lifeonmars100 · 09/12/2025 15:09

Too busy worrying about how I am managing my life and money to spare a thought for others

HonoraBridge · 09/12/2025 15:11

I don’t really have any particular thoughts. What are you expecting?

SchrodingersKoala · 09/12/2025 15:17

How is their house so tidy and organised with ft jobs, does she clearout regularly and have a cleaner 🤔 asking for a friend?

Just sounds like a normal working family with 2 decent jobs that can afford to probably finance themselves to the hilt (so long as no one loses their job!!)! I know a lot of people who have a v similar lifestyle.

Unless your point in the post was the no childcare part?

PrestonHood121 · 09/12/2025 15:20

Normal working family with a mum who likes her nice handbags and styling tools?

tillythemoo · 09/12/2025 15:21

Being a bit more negative Nancy here, I assume the cars are on finance and they did a help to buy scheme. They have family help which allows them to spend a bit more than others, plus maybe her/his mum does the cleaning for them.

Bikergran · 09/12/2025 15:23

Why should I think anything? If they were unemployed I might wonder where the money was coming from, but other than that why should anybody give a toss about their income and how they spend it?

Wishingitwaswinter · 09/12/2025 15:38

Sounds like Just an average family
