Do you shave your legs in the winter?

I last shaved my legs in September and won't shave them again until about April.

Legs and armpits every day. Nobody sees or feels them except possibly the cat, who is nosy and likes to hang out in the bathroom, but I feel better with them done. My hair is thick and dark, so it would be a statement if I stopped.

howthemoonshines · 07/12/2025 07:53

Oh yes, I do them every day in the shower out of habit now.

I then apply body oil - the feeling of smooth oiled legs is lovely and it makes me feel great

DeftGoldHedgehog · 07/12/2025 07:54

Yes I do, as I swim and go to the gym in winter too. My leg hairs are fine and blonde so no-one would notice either way, and it doesn't bother DH, but I prefer it and it doesn't trouble my skin. If it did I wouldn't bother.

flutterby1 · 07/12/2025 07:55

No if I can get away with it, I will not shave for months as it’s not showing. But I’m single. My legs look like a gorrilla the moment . It’s is nature though. I did have to shave my armpits a few weeks ago as I had an ecg appointment and I didn’t want to look hairy but I wait til the shorts and T-shirt weather if I can… like I said it’s only nature not current societal concepts of beauty

DouglasBader · 07/12/2025 07:55

Nope.

Not in summer either.

Silverbirchleaf · 07/12/2025 07:56

Yes, but less frequently.

TidyCyan · 07/12/2025 07:56

Yes. I like them smooth and it takes me about 15 seconds per leg (I only do up to just above the knee). I also go to the gym and run in shorts all winter.

TheVengaBusIsComingMyBusPassIsForthcoming · 07/12/2025 07:58

Nope, I never shave, even in summer.

I hate it that the beauty standard is for women to look like a prepubescent girl.

phantomofthepopera · 07/12/2025 07:59

I don’t bother usually until a hospital appointment this week. I was expecting just a consultation but it turned out I had to have a minor surgical procedure for which I had to strip off my bottom half and put my legs in stirrups. I haven’t shaved (anywhere) since August! I also had old knickers on and chipped nail polish. I wanted to die.

It was the boot up the backside I needed to take myself back in hand. I’m like a slippery dolphin now.

EdithStourton · 07/12/2025 08:02

No, unless going somewhere hot or going swimming.

Or if I'm going to be wearing sheer tights or flashing a bare ankle.

ShodAndShadySenators · 07/12/2025 08:03

Yes, because I don't like stubble generally and I don't want to look like The Fly when I go swimming. It's no more faff doing it in the shower than it is in the summer, although summertime I do it daily rather than every couple/few days. Underarms are done the same.

I once injured my leg on holiday and had a large plaster over it on my calf. When we got back and went to walk in for more treatment, the HCP carefully peeled the plaster off my nice smooth tanned leg, to reveal a square of paler, hairy skin. The guy looked at it and raised an eyebrow, shook his head and said sorrowfully to DH, "Mate, she's letting herself go". It was so funny Grin #LoveBritishHumour

TheChosenTwo · 07/12/2025 08:04

I do but not as regularly as I do in the summer. It only really takes about a minute in the shower.
i swim a lot so my body is out all year round, I don’t really care and will swim with hairy legs but I suppose I just like having smooth legs and pits.

MasculineProviderEnergy · 07/12/2025 08:05

I let mine grow in the summer too. Protects legs against stinging nettles, and there's nothing quite like a soft summer breeze riffling through the leg-feathers.

I hate that people bring out "looking like a prepubescent girl" everytime there's a thread that mentions women shaving.

I can promise that I still look like an adult woman, despite shaving.

Sorry, I didn't realise that my personal opinion wasn't allowed.

No fully grown adult woman looks like a “pre-pubescent girl” just because she shaves her legs.

It's allowed. I'm allowed to say I disagree too.

The beauty industry makes their money from keeping us all striving to look as young as possible. It's unhealthy as fuck. From the second we start growing hair we are targeted to remove it, facial lines need to be gone, lashes to give us that doe eyed effect, can't have grey hair etc etc.

There's no denying it.

Seriously, medical staff aren’t going to judge women for having natural body hair - it’s not unhygienic or shameful any more than men’s is, and given loads of women never shave their pubic hair and don’t shave legs in winter / at all, it wouldn’t have even registered with them.

pinkpony88 · 07/12/2025 08:22

Crumpt · 07/12/2025 07:51

I'm surprised no one has said yes because they go swimming or do other exercise during the winter. I get far too hot in full length leggings. For that reason alone, yes. And also because I just feel a bit gross otherwise.

That’s me! I do mine because I swim regularly ☺️

Looking young is not the same as looking “pre pubescent” 🙄

If you think adult women look like underage girls just because they shave their legs then I think you need some help, quite frankly.

CraftySeal · 07/12/2025 08:25

Yes. Whenever I wash my hair, I shave my legs while leaving the conditioner to soak in before rinsing it off.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 07/12/2025 08:29

Yes, because even though I’m fair, my leg hair is so thick that it itches like mad if I let it grow, and feels horrible under tights/leggings etc.

It was thick when I was a “pre-pubescent girl” too, so it’s nothing to do with that. I’m smiling at the thought of shaving my legs making my 51 year old, post-childbirth body look 12, though.

Rockfordpeach · 07/12/2025 08:30

I very weirdly, don't grow leg hair, my mum doesn't either. Everywhere else but nothing on my legs so Ive never shaved them and they are smooth and hairless. It's the one good thing about my body 🤣

Worralorra · 07/12/2025 08:49

No. Been epilating for over 25 years and hardly anything grows back on the legs now! Underarms never grow back at all now, too, so it’s a win-win for me…
