I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

My last house was a 1930's pre war house with a cellar space running under the house, it wasnt a proper cellar, it was about 4 foot high. When I was exploring I found a disassembled Anderson shelter down there. I donated it to the local museum. I was tempted to set it up in my garden but it would have involved a lot of digging.

Please report it OP and check what is on the other side too. You could potentially do some real good here.

ContentedAlpaca · 09/12/2025 09:32

The combo of colours gives off quite 90s vibes. How old is the house?
I think they've needed some office/filing/business space that is separate from family storage space so they've only boarded that bit out. Maybe there has been some equipment up there. We keep our printer in the attic as it's a big beast and used infrequently.

I know you think it's inconvenient for kids to be up there but we used to love playing in our attic, it felt very Enid blyton. Maybe there was a scalextric or train set up there. (Thinking back to my childhood)

Apocketfilledwithposies · 09/12/2025 09:34

This is so random and strange!

The floor space of the hidden room looks really small? The random green door is very odd too.

user927464 · 09/12/2025 09:41

I think there are a lot of naive people on here. The room was clearly boarded off like the other side with the access through the little crawl space. Its hidden. It's clearly decorated to be childlike in appearance. It's well dodgy.

If you are using it as a play space/office etc you would board the bit that is directly accessed via the loft hatch from downstairs not the bit at each end which is then concealed from view.

Serious point on a thread I took to be rather lighthearted. There's no evidence that anything extreme like ritual murder or child abuse took place there; nothing that wouldn't sound completely ridiculous if reported. As long as the space remains inaccessible to an adjoining property then I can't see what relevance its former purpose has to its current residents.

Then again, I know there are also people who who feel they can't live in a house where someone died. That fear is unfounded as far as I'm concerned. Houses don't feel or remember.

user927464 · 09/12/2025 09:50

I'm not suggesting ritual murder however child abuse is very common and the police have units which literally investigate background pictures to try to identify locations from photos

BaconMassive · 09/12/2025 09:58

Scalextric or train set area is the most likely, torture or child abuse, probably lower down the list.

But why the chair etc?

If there's been a filling cabinet or something, there would likely be a chair. It has just been left there.

Why would that (low, fairly flimsy) chair say anything sinister to anyone? It was there for whoever used the space to sit in.

I'd LOVE to see the photos of the unknown space when you open it up. And I want to know about the funeral home call!

The best things from previous owners I've found in the loft are a mediocre quality telescope, and a small tile of a sheela na gig. The sheela na gig now lives in the downstairs toilet because she is...somewhat indecent 😅

WHAT IS THIS! 😂😂😂
I feel like this would have made the "sex room" idea more plausible.
We came down from the loft and he had a voicemail, they wanted to know when he was coming into the chapel of rest. It was weird.

There's nothing at all to suggest the room was boarded from the other side. It's not a hidden room. It's not even a room.

That "half wall" looks exactly the height and nature of the strut across my attic (which also had remnants of childish wallpaper, and was strewn with Lego and Polly pocket and similar hazards when I moved in). I would post photos but I don't want the true crime squad sending a SWAT team...

Did he call the funeral directors back? Did you get to the bottom of it?

Didn't you call the funeral directors to find out who'd passed on his name and number?

I doubt it's sinister, but just in case it is then it might be worth asking around and seeing what you can find out. If you inspect the space around it all further, and find other things that seem sinister, then maybe you should consult the authorities. I think that chair is what they used to call a director's chair and they were very fsshionable back in the 2980s ( i think ,not 100% sure but i think maybe !!). I do think the lighting is a bit over the top for a den though. Was the chair in that position when you found it or did you put it in that position ?

Belladog1 · 09/12/2025 10:45

I have just read this entire thread. Following now as I'm totally invested in what's on the other side of the loft.

Gossipisgood · 09/12/2025 10:46

If the house has a homely, family feel to it then I'm sure this room hasn't been used for anything sinister as the bad vibes would carry on through the rest of the house. I bet it's been a hide space for an overworked Husband or Wife where they go to get away from everyone & everything to read or relax without any interruptions at all. If there are magazines around then it's a possibility.

Strip the wallpaper off & paint the skirtings & frame & use it yourself for a chill space when you need to be away from the world for a while.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/12/2025 10:48

I thought you were going to be talking of a very old house with a priest’s hole or something.

readingmakesmehappy · 09/12/2025 10:52

It gives off webcam/OnlyFans type vibes. Sorry.
Are you going to enlarge the usable loft space and bring it all into use?

No, the op says there is a small door which is the bit painted green but it can only be accessed through the crawl space to the side which has planks of wood over unboarded loft space to get to the green door. The space wasn't seen until the sky man uncovered it. The other side is completed boarded which indicates this side might also have been boarded completely.

Did you bother to read the updates?

Report it to who?

Non emergency police with a photo explaining that its a concealed space which they might want to check against the database

I literally just finished reading a book where a family moves into a new house, and the husband finds a secret room. There's an old armchair, a Welsh dresser, etc. in the room. And a bunch of momentos (glasses, wallet, watch, dog collar, etc) inside the dresser, kept by a serial killer, from the victims, who now wants the stuff back!

I read that booka few months ago! Can't for the life of me remember the name of it,or who the author was though!
