Do people not realise that for those who welcome them into the family they are part of the family. And if you have a dog and say it's just a dog, I'm not sure you should have one.

A dog is not a human yes a dog can be part of a family but they are not and never will be a baby or in anyway the same as a human, I worry for people who cant tell the difference

And no they don't have to be taken everywhere

This.

The only reason there is no reading between the lines with a dog is because there aren’t any lines to read between.

It is a dog. Non-human. You can project whatever anthropomorphic bullshit you want onto it; it’s a dog. It is happy because you provide food and shelter. It will eat your face if you die alone in the house with it. It doesn’t really give a fuck, you just think it does.

Truth

It's not a family member its a pet. Pet owners seem to turn to absolute idiots upon purchasing an animal.

Curious @Lifeneedsaresetagain

hypothetical scenario.

The lives of your dog and child are in danger.

You can only save one.

Who will it be?

The OP has beeen asked multiple times. But refuses to answer with a simple response. Because she can’t bear to answer in black-and-white that her daughter is no more important to her than her dog.

It can be a pet and a family member and a working dog at the same time. These things are not mutually exclusive.

That is a truly shameful remark.

It's just a child.

This is getting boring - it’s not the same is it?! At all

I am really uncomfortable around dogs and I do not enjoy them in my space. I’m hosting both my family and DH’s family one after the other for Christmas. I asked both families months ago to please not bring their dogs and both have refused, so the dogs are coming, and staying for two nights each. Apparently I don’t get to make the rules in my own space and now I have to host / cater for two families whilst being uncomfortable, and I have to suck it up and not be grumpy about it (as does my cat) because otherwise I’m the bad guy. Sorry OP, but it feels fucked up to me that I’m being expected to prioritise animals who have nothing to do with me, and that my family are more prepared to hurt me than they are to inconvenience themselves or their dog. I love Christmas but I’m not really looking forward to this one.

Then don’t host. They are being weird and entitled. They can celebrate with their digs at hone

Not everyone is a dog lover. Not everyone is a not-dog-lover. There’s space for all of us.

This was my point about people who think animals are better than all humans - it's emotionally stunted. You cannot have the same emotional depth of relationship with an animal as you do with a person, it's a lot easier, more straightforward. You don't have to put in the same work.

Exactly - dogs don’t argue back or have their own ideas. Just do as they’re told, while you keep feeding them

OmNomShiva · 07/12/2025 17:07

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 07/12/2025 16:19

Some dogs do, but not all. You never make any distinction at all.

NADALT is it now ?

That line always gets shot down in flames when it’s Not All Men (who) Are Like That.

FFS, I'm autistic. I was saying you were like me!!! Why did I get reported for it? I see things in black & white. I have no filter. Autism traits.

The one who has consistently been abusive on this thread is neither me nor notadame.

I'm out of here for good.

Your worship of dogs is also tiresome. Accept that they make things very unpleasant for those who do not tolerate their ubiquity.

My dog is in my home and not bothering you whatsoever. Your views, however, are out in public for all to see.

YeOldeGreyhound · 07/12/2025 17:19

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 07/12/2025 16:27

To be fair and speaking personally it is ALL dogs. A dog being somewhere makes it unpleasant simply by virtue of it being a dog.

That makes no sense. How is my dog, in her own home, bothering you?

What? After being called mentally ill and a weirdo on here? Why not have a go at the people saying those things? The ones calling dog owners psychopaths, sociopaths, saying we're unable to form human relationships, that we're not emotionally developed enough to rear children. Why don't you call out those people?

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 07/12/2025 17:49

YeOldeGreyhound · 07/12/2025 17:19

The post I quoted talked about how the ubiquity of dogs being bothersome. Of course your dog in your home doesn’t bother me as I don’t know you but that’s obviously not what the previous poser meant. However, the nature of the beast is that there are more dogs EVERYWHERE including public spaces and homes of people I would like to be able to visit comfortably in an ideal world but can’t because of the dog.

It doesn’t matter if it’s well behaved. I’m allergic, dogs make me feel ill. A “friendly” dog is a dog which is about to cover me in allergens I have contamination OCD, dogs are unclean. Dogs smell. The sheer dogginess of any dog is the thing that is bothersome.

You hate dogs and seeing one in the far distance is going to piss you off anyway.

You seem to think that your dog being in your home bothers me.

It doesn’t.

Only when they are in forced proximity in public shared spaces.

However, I have a proposal to deal with that which I mentioned earlier in this thread. That would help to deal with this epidemic.

I have a mental illness and I find your comment offensive.

👌I don't see how it's offensive to you.

Genuinely if people think dogs are the same as people then they should seek help. I'm not saying that to be insulting.
